Picked it up at the end of the day and gas was almost empty in a surprise to me - I didn't write down mileage when I took it in but by all indications they'd put 90ish miles on it. Called to express alarm; someone said they'd look into it and get back to us but naturally never did. Wasn't worth fighting about but this place is proven untrustworthy and I hope others can avoid getting taken advantage of like I was. Can't I give them 0 stars? Per the advice of my mother, who was a previous customer, I stopped in for a pre-trip inspection…read morebefore a very lengthy road trip. I was the first to arrive (before the shop opened), as I wanted to be in and out as quickly as possible. The young lady at the front desk assisted me and informed me that the service required full payment upfront. Now, for many businesses, this would be a red flag. But given the nature of this particular establishment, along with its solid reputation, I was completely OK with this. You've heard of "dine and dash," involving people who eat and skip out on their bill, so I'm sure that this business didn't want to deal with people who "drive and dash." Anyway.... The mechanic started working on my vehicle immediately and was extremely thorough. Shortly thereafter, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Mr. John, when he entered the sitting area/lobby. I asked if he was the owner because he just had that commanding presence that most owners possess & I wanted to speak with him directly. I informed Mr. John about why I came to his shop and truly appreciated the time and care he put into servicing my vehicle to ensure that it was safe. He told me that he could tell I took care of it, and that for its age, it was in great shape. Mr. John even went the extra mile (see what I did there, haha) and showed me some things that were worn and would eventually need repair. This was great info, not only so I know what to expect for a future visit to my local auto repair shop but also because I decided to have some of the work performed that same day. I felt it was wise to get it out of the way and not have to worry about anything breaking while on the road. Mr. John even told me to call once I arrived at my destination, which further proved that he genuinely cares about his customers and takes great pride in his work. I called the following week and let the young lady at the service desk know that my trip was smooth!

The tech that came out to the house, Derrick, made sure I was pooped into the issues my car had and how to fix it. He did a great job replacing my brake pads and rotors - less than hour, unheard of when compared to other mechanics or a dealership. The pricing was also really good, I called about 5 competitors and all of them were unclear on the pricing for a simple jobs. Others would tell me I had a "first time customer" coupon.. After moving to Waldorf, I was impressed with (and a little skeptical of) Boswell's nearly 5 Star Yelp rating. After using Boswell's twice, I quickly experienced how they earned and maintain their reputation. The owner, Tom is not afraid to tell you his rates up front and give his best estimate on time needed to diagnose/fix. He is candid about when he will be able to get to your car. I never felt pressure for any repairs - Tom is like an experienced doctor who gives his best diagnosis for what is wrong with a vehicle including options and costs for different courses of action. After 5 years, Boswell's is still our go-to auto repair shop. Through many repairs over the years, both small and large - Boswell's consistently provides fair prices, good service, and great communication. Thanks, Tom! I knew we had replaced the battery about a year ago, so I was pretty sure the alternator was going bad. I pulled into the auto zone across from MT. Vernon auto repair. My wife explained our situation to the owner and he said he would be able to take care of us. He said if I wanted to go back to the auto zone and get the part, he would start working on the car.
