Order came missing 5 items, Dasher claimed they were given order right off phone and checked off each item. The sushi is the freshest I've tasted outside of Seattle, it is artfully beautiful, and all the Japanese people who work there are very nice. The service is excellent and everyone is so polite. Our service tonight was great. The food, however, was terrible. Hibachi filet ordered medium was very overcooked and unevenly cut (tepanyaki meat is supposed to be cut up before serving, by the way.) Hibachi Vegetable dinner was nothing more than rice and the same small side of undercooked broccoli and onions that came with the steak dinner, except the veggies served with the steak were overcooked. All of the vegetables were covered in an overly sweet teriyaki sauce, something neither of us asked for nor wanted. Fried rice had a strange flavor, no vegetables, and only a little egg. And it was $85 for two drinks, mixed tempura, gyoza, filet, some vegetables, and a child's salmon dinner. I haven't been this upset about a meal out in a very long time. Again, service was great. This was my mom's 2nd choice for dinner to celebrate my parents 40th wedding anniversary. Not that they ever asked if the 6 of us were gathering for anything. We ordered drinks, sushi, and entrées. Never offered water, and all of our food, including sushi, was DROWNING in mayo sauce. Even my sauced hibachi chicken came with an additional sauce. But the chicken tasted gritty so I didn't eat it. And everything is on HUGE plates for a small table. As we were still eating our sushi appetizers and salad and soup, they brought out the entrées, I finally asked where he expected us to put them. My father had had enough and told the waiter to take the food back, because we weren't ready (obviously upset). The manager told us they would wait and remake it, but it tasted reheated and so I don't know if they actually did or not. They didn't offer to comp anything, they didn't apologize, but they did come over and ask us if everything was okay about 15 times, I told them I didn't like my dish. They didn't say anything. They asked if I wanted a box. Wow. I said no. I don't know if it was his first day, or having a bad day, but he was definitely struggling. I've been here 3 times (never my choice) and every time it's felt like they are trying to put their own spin on traditional Japanese food, bad move. Ive spoken to managers twice about the food now, and both times theyve defended their food as "traditional" and "a lot of people like it." They obviously dont know what theyre talking about, and this last experience pushed me over the edge and inspired this review to warn others. To affirm the review from Mike below, NOTHING here is traditional. Having lived in Japan for several years and eaten at many teppanyaki and sushi establishments, I can compare them. Bring a Japanese native here and they'd laugh. Honestly teppanyaki is not very popular with Japanese people, it mostly caters to tourists. All of these establishments in the United States are betting on the fact that most people have never had authentic Japanese food. Same with Chinese restaurants. The worst customer service in Yakima, WA. We no longer go to this establishment. We used to go somewhat frequently because we live so close. Not anymore. I got an extremely foul tasting sushi roll with tuna, my favorite fish. I tried to eat it, but could not. When I said something quietly to our waiter, he immediately got the manager. The manager or owner was extremely defensive, rude, and argued loudly at our table for 10 minutes. He ran in and out of the kitchen to wave up a printed order confirmation at us that apparently served as some sort of "proof" that he ordered "fresh fish." It was extremely embarrassing but I eat maguro tuna often and it is a staple in my diet so I knew that the taste was very, very wrong. The texture was also chewy, wrinkly, and wilted. As if that wasn't enough, the sushi chef and a waitress or bus girl was hovering across from our table staring and laughing while the manager acted "flabbergasted" when I said the tuna tasted off. The girl was literally pointing and laughing like I was someone who had just never eaten sushi in my life and didn't know what I was talking about. On the contrary I eat raw fish both at home and out to eat and always have. After the embarrassing experience, we paid for the entire meal, tipped our nice server 20% and never returned. Hands down most entertaining restaurant in Yakima. The Hibachi grill masters were spectacular. There was so much talent and humor it was hardly to believe I was still in Yakima. My kids were fascinated by the show they put on as was I. We had the hibachi filet mignon, chicken and shrimp which included onion soup, salad, veggies and fried rice. All of the meats were cooked to perfection and the fried rice was seasoned just right. We also had soft shelled crab which was crispy and flavorful. Do expect to spend quite a bit of money compared to other restaurants in the area but it will be well worth it considering the show put on and the quality of the food and atmosphere. read more

For the Dining section: Authentic Japanese flavor, NOT. Sauces are more Korean style, flavor, sweet, pungent, thick glazed. Soup is not traditional miso, was Onion flavor. Seating for four, you have to lean over about two feet to reach the table and sit at the edge of your bench seat. Definitely not comfortable. Kyoto is one of my top favorite places to eat in Yakima. I'm not sure if it's the food or the environment... both are great! If you go to the hibachi grill they cook the food right there in front of you. The soup is THE BEST! and sometimes they give you complementary saki, they love Saki! read more

Late Friday night dinner that left me less than impressed. My husband and I sat at a hibachi grill table expecting a bit of a show and some fun. The cook was plain ol' boring. There was a bit of fire, one flinging of rice and then nothing else. Compared to other hibachi grills I've been to, this one was lame. I ordered the hibachi noodles, and they were fine, albeit a bit on the salty side. I went light on my hibachi order because I also wanted to try a sushi roll. I can't remember the name of the roll I ordered, but that's because it didn't leave an impression. The menu said it came with 'assorted fish' and I guess they meant salmon, because that was all that was in it. The roll was large with about 10 pieces but I ended up leaving 1/2 of it because I didn't want just salmon. The hibachi noodles were very plentiful, served with rice and grilled vegetables. I have enough leftover to feed my hungry teenager for lunch tomorrow. My husband ordered the hibachi chicken and he said it was good. The chicken portion was impressively large, and was served with fried rice and vegetables, but was also over salted. This is a new restaurant here in Yakima, so I was a little caught off guard by the lack of cleanliness. The carpeted floors were very dirty, perhaps from a busy night but it doesn't take much to run a quick portable stick vacuum over the floors in between seatings. There was a door to a storage closet open as we walked out of the back grill room and the closet was a mess with gross stuff on the floor and around the door jam. I also noticed that no one took the manufacturer stickers off the base of the grill tables and I thought that was odd! My final turn off was as we were walking out the door the hostess did not bother to look up from her cell phone that she was texting on. Overall I would say this place was just Ok. I probably wouldn't take out of town guests there or suggest it as a place to gather with friends, but I may be willing to give it another chance a little down the road. read more

I would love to give this place a five star review, however, the service is not much to be desired. My co-worker and I come to Kyoto regularly knowing that our orders will most likely be screwed up, someone won't service us for 10-15 minutes after sitting us down with menus, or bring us the wrong ticket. It's Yakima, so I don't expect "next to the ocean" fresh sushi, but what they have on the menu works well with anyone who is on a diet, doesn't eat meat, or doesn't like raw fish. My first time here, was visiting Yakima family and we came here for a bday celebration. They made reservations for 6:30 for 13 people. We got there a few minutes early and let the hostess know we were there. Another big group came in and we're seated in 10 min. We didn't get seated till 7:15 ish. Once seated we waited 15 min before getting any attention so we ordered food the same time as drinks because you could already tell this was going to take awhile. 10 min later, the beers were delivered, 10 min after that the folks who ordered hard alcohol got their drinks. THEN shortly after the one kid at our table who ordered non-hibachi food got her dinner. There were still 4 soda orders that hadn't been served so I had to flag down the hostess to let her know. After we all finally had drinks, the chef finally got there sometime after 8:00. One of the kids in our group had fallen asleep by then and slept through the whole dinner "show". The chef was rude and was clearly trying to get done as fast as he could. No show, no entertainment. No Sake. The chef made rude and inappropriate jokes. We needed to change a diaper and when we asked the hostess if they had any changing stations she said "no, but if you want to take the plant off the counter you can change her there". Seriously? That's disgusting. There was a really cold draft right at our table and we all had to put our coats on. When one of us asked the chef about it he more or less rolled his eyes and said "oh, sorry?" in a rude mocking tone. While the chef was cleaning the grill, someone in our group mentioned getting sake squirted in our mouths (usually this is a sure thing without asking at these places). So the chef took out his squirt bottle and served it to the one person who asked about it, then ignored the rest of us and wheeled his cart away. When we were leaving, someone finally came to our table and instead of apologizing for anything, he made excuses. No one came at all beforehand to let us know they were short a chef or to say sorry that things were going to be slower that night. We had 4 kids in our group and it would have been nice to know how late it would be before we even got food. And afterwards there were no apologies, no compensations for the outrageous bill. Nothing. The birthday girl went in a couple days later and spoke with the manager. Again, only excuses and no offer to comp them anything. So rude. read more

I've never had a problem with the food except their iced tea tastes like crap. The one reason I will never be back to this restaurant is the fact that I am about 95% certain that the hibachi cooks are not licensed to sell liquor and if that's the case, they probably don't have a food handlers permit either. While visiting for Mother's Day this year, my husband, mother in law and I (who are all nearly 2 years clean and sober) sit down at the hibachi grill for dinner next to another family who has what looks to be two young teenagers (definitely not 21) in their party. Everything was going good until the cook went around the table starting from the opposite side of us with his "holy water". I assumed that it was just water since he carelessly did a 6 second pour into each of the two teenagers mouths without carding anyone at the table. But by the time it got to me, the very last person, I realized that it was not water at all, it was saki. No one at the table said anything about it until I said something. Everyone there exclaimed that he was pouring it in their mouths in such a way that it went directly down their throat without filling up their mouth enough to realize what it was until they tasted the after taste. I was livid, and so was my family. I asked the cook, "what if I had been pregnant ?" and also reminded him that he failed to card or ask anyone at the table, and he responded with "its just rice wine". He poured so much in everyone's mouth that everyone, including the two kids, had a buzz by the end of the meal. I haven't been back since but I did report this to the LCB and health board. They need to be investigated. I have a feeling that all of their cooks are working in the states illegally, which is probably why they have no concern for our health and liquor laws. read more

I had hibachi here for dinner. Pretty standard hibachi. Food was okay. However, we sat in the back room with all hibachi grills and it was literally FREEZING. I wore my coat, gloves and a scarf during dinner. I was not the only one freezing. Everyone was commenting on how cold it was. I don't know if their heating system is inadequate for the size of the room or what - so weird! I would also say this restaurant is NOT kid-friendly. We tried to go for dinner (not hibachi) at 6pm on a Thursday. My husband and I and two kids. The owner was at the hostess podium when we walked in and she completely ignored us at first. You could tell she was annoyed that we had two children with us and didn't want to seat us. She then asked if we had reservations. Reservations on a Thursday night...in Yakima?! No, we did not. She then gave us a super annoyed look and said the wait was 45 minutes. Definitely NOT THE FRIENDLIEST toward families. read more

We go here quite a bit and always sit in the booths by the sushi bar; we love the private atmosphere. Their prices are decent and for the most part their specialty rolls are really good. Really great experience. We took our two kids (12 & 4) and they loved the hibachi show. The steak and chicken were both grest, and the veggies were done just right. The rice was a little crunchy in spots. My husband loved the dhrimo, but wished he has gotten more than 5. Plenty of good though. Great experience for the price.
