Clean restaurant and pretty standard menu. Here is how our meal stacked up: Torta: Great, though it definitely needed a good sauce to bring it all together. Tacos: Super flavorful and well cooked, but really craved a vibrant green salsa to elevate them. Mole Enchiladas: Just okay, nothing special compared to the rest of the meal. Sides: The rice was delicious and well seasoned, but the beans fell a bit flat. Service: There was only one waitress handling the entire front of the house. Extremely overrated Mexican restaurant. I was searching for authentic mexican eatery to celebrate Father's Day and this place had the most and the highest reviews - why?!? The food was generic and basic, small portions, and rather expensive prices for what you get. I could have gotten better food for 2/3 or less of the price from a taco truck. Thoroughly disappointed. I am mexican and I give it 2/5 stars for barely passable. We had carne asada plate, chicken , shrimp cocktails, other assorted items and all were very lackluster. I ended up here because of a family celebration. I have celiac and the waitress didn't know what gluten is. She was very low talking and shy. I am not hard of hearing at all and she was just mumbling. When Someone has a food allergy it is to be taken seriously. I have to be able to hear what she is telling me because gluten can be In spices or sauce not just tortillas. When I asked her about no wheat or flour so she would understand she was getting mad because I don't think she could believe I had an allergy. She also didn't like that nobody could hardly hear her. Maybe she is a family member but this is not the right job for her, she lacked care and communication to say the least. Today I am sick because I got cross contaminated. Getting into gluten is physically painful! Let me say this LOUD and CLEAR if you own a restaurant you and your employees NEED to know what gluten is and how dangerous allergies can be!! Because I have celiac this means my corn tortillas cannot touch anywhere the flour tortillas have been. You can't prepare or cut my food with the same tools as flour food has been prepared!!!! Until I see that this restaurant has good reviews for celiacs I won't be back. We will all likely end up somewhere that understands. read more

We wandered on in to the spot one evening after a group of us decided we needed some additional food following a dinner. The spot is located in the same area as a Walmart, but it's in the slightly newer area just north of the main building. The place has a really nice vibe to it. There's a good amount of seating, though it is small enough that it does remain somewhat intimate. The majority of the seating is tables and chairs, and the most they could accommodate is around 8 to 10 in a group. We had six, and it was a bit on the crowded side. There's a nice array of food options, including Molcajete, some nice Carnitas plates, and some very good tacos. anywhere that has Molcajete, we get the Molcajete! The presentation of this was excellent, the flavors were lovely, and it was very colorful. It really hit on all different cylinders. The friends we were with had a Carnitas plate, and it was quite lovely. They had a decent cocktail, wine and beer menu. The beer wasn't extensive, but there were a number of good Mexican and central American options. Really the only check against this place was the price of some of the items. They were definitely not giving it away! I can absolutely appreciate paying more for quality stuff, and the stuff was very good... It was just hard to justify paying $30 for Molcajete. That said, I will probably do it again the next time we go. the spot is definitely categorized into the higher end, Mexican spots, similar to Xochimilco in town. Good spot to go with a group of friends or family, but where you're not expecting to get two dollar tacos. We will definitely be back. read more

Ecstatic Yelp reviews led me to drive way and the heck out to the further parts of Yakima for this Mexican restaurant. And it was - OK, certainly, but I didn't find anything wildly great about it. We just went to Grand Monarca for the first time and had Ceviche to go. Though the ceviche tasted amazing, we were disappointed that it was not mixed. We payed +$2 for shrimp and we honestly thought that it meant it would be mixed with fish and shrimp (this is our mistake for not checking with the staff and making our own assumptions), I also didn't think the portion was worth that price; the picture shown in another yelp review seemed to have more (maybe because they ate at the restaurant vs to go). Stopped in for an early dinner, ordered the ceviche and birria tacos with a spicy margarita. The spicy margarita was perfect! I would visit again just for the margarita and the ceviche alone! The ceviche is a generous portion with fresh avocado on top. The birria tacos were melty and delicious as well. Knocking a star only for a few reasons, having to ask for water and utensils and a bland salsa. They do also serve warm beans with the salsa which I preferred. Will be back to try more and update! We had a few friends recommend this place along with awesome Yelp reviews so we decided to try it out. Wow.. so glad we did! Amazing food, amazing service and comfortable seating. The restaurant isn't large but we loved that.. felt more intimate. We went around 5pm on a Saturday and it wasn't crazy busy yet. We sat at a table by the window. Our server was very friendly and patient with us. I ordered the Cadillac Margarita and my husband ordered a bottle of pacifico.. but the bonus was the tall chilled glass with chomoy that the beer came with. That made the beer extra yummy and extra effort on their part. Loved it! We started with shrimp cheviche, amazing. Perfectly seasoned and generous amount. We also shared the carne asada. Huge portions and it easily fed both of us. Meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The quesadilla was one of the best I've ever had.. drooling just reminiscing. This is the second time I've tried this place. The first time was when it first opened which was not too bad, not a lot of people knew about it specially being part of a new plaza on the Westside. This time around I decided to actually write about it. The time was around noon so the place wasn't too busy so Service was pretty fast with drinks coming in after a couple mins of being there. I ordered a molcajete which I thought would be a great dish to rave about since it comes with a lot of meat, flavor and comes really hot ! I really had wished that they had used a different type of steak for the molcajete for example a piece of skirt steak or something relatively thin, for the pieces they used were really thick and had a lot of nerve, fat. The chicken was real good, cooked thoroughly with flavor on its own while the sausage, which traditionally, the plate combines itself a piece of hot sausage like chorizo but in this case they substituted with a hot link and was not really pleased with that option. The side dish was a bed of Rice and beans which to my expectations were good with flavor. The drink I ordered was a Piñacolada and it was very delicious! For a simple lunch date this is a place I'd recommend though for dinner or something bigger there are plenty of Mexican restaurants with much more variety. read more

This is a MUST stop for Lunch or Dinner. My husband and I stopped for lunch and the restaurant is fairly small but very clean. The service was fast (there were 2 more people there) and our server was very friendly. My husband and I both ordered Agua de Jamaica and it was DELICIOUS. I forgot what my husband ordered .. lol.. but I ordered Carne Asada. Let me tell ya! Every other Mexican restaurant I've been to gives the same food presentation but not Grand Monarca- it is different and I LOVED IT. The meat was tender.
