Came on a lovely late spring day. We had our dog with us and they let us sit on the patio, which was nice. They even brought out an umbrella to keep us a bit shaded from the sun. They brought out refreshing cups of water, chips and 6 types of salsa, while we reviewed the menu. The "chips" are actually whole corn tortillas fried! So you use them whole or break them into chips yourself. My guess on the salsas are: salsa verde (tomatillo), avocado, pico de gallo, a smoky ancho, a citrusy habanero, and something else. They all had distinct flavors and a little light spice, but we wanted spicier. They brought out the "no way Jose" sauce and warned us it's their spiciest and it sneaks up on ya! We tried it and found it was not burning but quite nice. We drizzled this sauce all over our food. It was the most flavorful of the bunch. The menu is quite extensive, with everything from sopas to sopes, tortas to tacos, cocktails to desserts. We each got a plate of food, meaning the main entree comes with Mexican red rice and refried beans. I got the sopita (aka sope) with barbacoa and a fish taco and husband got a dipped torta (I forget the name) filled with adobada. The amount of food and meat was quite generous, the toppings (veggies) too. I really enjoyed my sope - it had the perfect crispy crust and I could taste the slightly sweet creamy taste of the masa. The barbacoa was not as flavorful as I thought it would be. It was more like stewed beef meat. It was fine but I was expecting really deep flavor. The fish taco seemed freshly grilled and was moist, but there was a bit of a "fishy" smell and flavor that kind of took over. Thankfully, the generous veggie toppings and fresh handmade corn tortilla and salsas helped mask the flavor. Have to hand it to them that those tortillas are really good! The Mexican rice was perfect. I haven't had that flavor and texture in Mexican rice in a while and thought that was well done. The refried beans were good but also had a flavor I couldn't place my finger on... My husband said everything was really good on his plate. His torta was massive! Really flavorful and stacked with things. The adobada was very tasty. I wish I ordered that meat instead of the barbacoa and fish. Overall pretty good Mexican food, generous portions, really sweet service. The interior is also really clean and nicely decorated. They have a small parking lot out back. read more

Years ago, this used to be my favorite spot to get some Mexican food. I went today with some friends and ordered some menudo. The menudo smelled strong like feces, not normal. When I pointed it out to them they reminded ne what I ordered trying to tell me it was normal when I know for a fact that if you clean it well enough like most places do, you will not get that smell. So I ordered something else. By the time I paid the bill the charged me for the menudo that was putrid. I complained about it but then they got mad stating what I should not expect anything better. After a less than desirable meal the prior night we made our way to Antojitos which has always been a favorite of ours. We started off with their basket of chips and the 6 or 7 different salsas they serve with it. My husband ordered essentially a mole burrito (tortilla filled with chicken, beans and rice and covered in mole sauce) which was delicious and huge; he only ate half. I ordered the sopito w/ barbacoa and taco w/ adovada combo and it was very good. Again the portion was large, so I took half home. I came in for dinner a couple of weeks ago. The place came highly recommended so I was pretty excited by the prospect of having some good Mexican food. The restaurant looks the part as soon as you walk in. The restaurant was packed on a Friday evening. We were seated immediately. Chips and salsas were quickly brought out. The chips were pretty decent but the sauces were very bland. As I have said many times before, a little bit of salt in your salsas goes a long way. We ordered our meal and were served rather quickly. The taco meats were also super bland and quite flavorless. I was not impressed. I tried seasoning my meal to no avail. The meal was not authentic enough for my taste. The service was excellent. All the staff went out of their way to serve us checking on us often eventhough they were pretty busy. read more

There's a lot to like here... a highlight is really the different salsa samples that are offered with the full sized deep fried (!!!) taco shell you can use to snack on pre-meal. Yum. they have a real range of heat and spice. when it comes to the tacos, the looked delicious, i'm going to review my Carne asada - frankly it was a little disappointing. cooked well but bland. it came with a jalapeno but was devoid of salt, pepper or seasoning. the meat was quality. Another peeve of mine is the refried beans - why? why not use black beans or another side that's less cliche? I expected authentic from the reviews I read. This place was far from that. I ordered the camarones moja de ago and a margarita of course. We also got guacamole and chips. The chips are corn tortillas fried and left whole. I'm good with that. The guacamole is mostly avocado and not much of anything else. We ended up dumping some of their salsas into it to give it more taste. The camarones were fine. You get a good order as far as quantity. The shrimp were cooked enough and not overdone. Flavor of everything though? Bland, bland, bland.. The margarita, definitely straight from a mix. No imagination at all. Ah, Antojitos - some of the best Mexican food on this side of the border! Sometimes locally referred to as the Mexican Dairyqueen (it's in an old dairqueen location) - this place is AWESOME and totally worth a try! As others have mentioned, the chip situation is a little different that most other places. Instead of normal sized chips, they fry the whole small tortilla and let you break it up to whatever size you want. It's different, but the chips are still delicious! You also get 6 types of salsa, ranging from hot to mild. In my opinion, the medium (redish-orange) is the best. The hot salsa (dark red) is smokier, but I actually didn't find it very hot on this trip. I was most recently here for lunch and opted for the 2 sopitos combo, which is about $9. If you have never had a sopito, you haven't lived! It's a thick, fried torilla coved with meat, beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and onions. I chose the Chorizo and the Adobada for my meats. It also came with a side of rice and beans. The Chorizo was the hit of the table - it's a little spicy, but the little guys at the table were able to eat some no problem! Chorizo anything here is worth a try! Next time, I'd only get the single sopito combo - unless I was planning for leftovers - I didn't even touch the delicious rice and beans on this trip! If you're a red blooded american who loves breakfast burritos (or even if you're not!), these are the best around! Figure about $8 for the burrito that you want, but 2 normal people could split one! They're huge, they're authentic, they're awesome! If you've never been here, give it a try - I doubt you'll be disappointed! read more

Hell yea. This is some good Mexican food! Yakima has a pretty big Mexican population and I think half of them were in here. I had enchiladas (see photo). Good choice. Nice shredded beef, shredded cheese and cabbage on top, and a variety of salsas. They were not smothered in sauce. Rice and beans, while so often an afterthought at Americanized places, were actually really good. The tortilla chips were freshly baked and crispy. While I got plenty of food, I didn't leave feeling like I was going to just fall asleep and then wake up and run to the bathroom. There is something less heavy about the food here than I'm used to. When you first sit down you get served a bunch of different salsas to go with your ships! Off to a wonderful start! I got a combo of a burrito and a taco! The food is good, fresh and tasty! Service was good too! I asked for a cup of water to drink for the road and the lady brought out a nice big cup! Very nice of her to give such a big cup! The food was very good. They're a little different from other Mexican restaurants I've been to. For starters, they serve whole small fried corn tortillas which you can then break apart for dipping in a line of salsas served in small containers. All the salsas were very good. My test dish for Mexican restaurants is carne asada. I prefer it made from grilled skirt steak. At this restaurant it looked like it was made from top sirloin pounded very thin and then pan or flat top-fried. Tasty but not what I was looking for. The place was packed when we arrived. My daughter told me this is her favorite Mexican place in Yakima. Apparently, from the crowded restaurant many people agree with her. Despite all the diners, service was both fast and friendly. My wife and I were with my daughter and two of her friends. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. We'll be returning to try out more dishes. read more
