Kyma is very very ehhh. It is not in any way extraordinary and in some ways even below average. Just finished a meal there with my fiancee. We had appetizers, a salad, main course and we were finished in less than an hour. The food was not paced at all. Each dish was brought out immediately after we finished the last. It seemed like the staff didn't have a chance to check in before the next course was brought. We started with the Greek salad, a $26 exercise in absolute mediocrity. The tomatoes weren't ripe, the salad was nearly 50% green peppers and the feta tasted like it might've been bought from Kraft rather than an actual Greek purveyor. We continued our journey in the land of nothing special with octopus and grilled haloumi. The haloumi might've been the best part of the meal, but in no way special. The octopus tasted relatively rubbery and also bland. We finished our meal with the bronzino for two. It was a large portion of fish, fileted table side. It was also relatively bland. We decided on lemon potatoes and the chicory escarole for sides. Again, nothing memorable. We found the service to be adequate, just maybe rushed. The restaurant was overwhelming noisy as the bar was standing room only, 3 people deep on both sides. It reeks of a see and be seen vibe rather than a strong culinary offering. It's more of a 3.5 since it's like amazing ambiance and nice service but probably a little over priced. I came with a big group for a brunch birthday and with all the alcohol it was around $180 per person. This was for a package that included unlimited mimosas and select entrees such as braised lamb, steak or fish. The appetizers were lovely. I was really disappointed with dessert. It was coffee and dessert included, we had to remind the servers that some of us wanted coffee, it was boiling hot to the brim of the cup. No room for milk. And the "desserts" was just 2-3 trays of fresh fruit and baklava, no pastries or cookies. And it was for 20+ people. I don't understand why corners seemed to be cut there. Came for dinner with my fiancee and 2 friends. Have been hearing recommendations for this restaurant for awhile from both coworkers and friends. I'm a huge fan of Greek food so was definitely looking forward to trying it out. It was pretty quick and easy to call and get a reservation on tuesday evening. The receptionist was very helpful and accommodating. We were seated quite quickly once we got in. Everyone was extremely friendly and definitely added to the experience. We got the pikilia to share and each ordered multiple different fish dishes as our main - Lavraki, Tsipoura, and 2 Black Sea Bass. The Pikilia was definitely on the smaller side and I've had better. The fish were without a doubt were each amazing. Each were cooked perfectly and was quite delicious. We didn't end up getting dessert since we had cake waiting at home to cut and eat, but the dessert options looked quite nice. Overall, I enjoyed my time here. The service was excellent. Authentic Greek restaurant in Roslyn, with another location in Manhattan. I made reservations for a birthday dinner on Sunday night for 7 people and it was easy to book online. However, there were so many tables/seats both inside and outside that I'm sure walk-ins would've been taken as well. The staff was very friendly and kind throughout the entire meal. They changed our plates between each course (appetizers, entrees, desserts) and the food came out at a reasonable time as well. The decor inside was really nice, providing a great ambience. We started off with a few drinks and complimentary bread/pita with hummus. Always love complimentary freshly toasted pita when dining at a Greek restaurant. For the food, listing below what we ordered for the table. - Kyma chips: after going through all the pictures, this app is a must get and I definitely agree. The zucchini and eggplant was thinly sliced and fried perfectly so that it was nice and crispy. It paired well with the tzatziki sauce, but it was also seasoned so it didn't need the sauce either. Also loved the pieces of cheese that came with it, wished there were more than just 4 pieces. - Octopus: another great appetizer. Grilled perfectly so it maintained some texture and the pieces were thick! - Crab cake: I personally thought this was tasty, with big chunks of crab but other people in my party thought it was on the fishy side. The favo beans that it came with wasn't my favorite though. - Seafood linguine: sauce was delicious but wished there was more linguine. There was a decent amount of mussels, clams, jumbo shrimps and 2 scallops. - Lavraki (Bronzini): I typically order the bronzini when I go to a Greek/Mediterranean restaurant and this one was decent. The fish meat was cooked well but some parts of the skin wasn't scaled perfectly. There are also a ton of different whole fresh fish to choose from so I'd still recommend ordering one if you come! - Chicken with a side of horta: no complaints, simple entree item. It was my first time trying horta; it was interesting, a bit bitter and sour which is likely from the lemon used in Greek cuisine. - Halibut with mushroom risotto: we chose this because the waiter had said this was one of the specials of the day. However, the risotto was supposed to be made with squid ink so unfortunately, we were disappointed by this since they changed it without informing us (not their fault for not knowing it had ran out). After asking to confirm why it wasn't squid ink, they offered to let us change the dish. Got to try a bite of the risotto before they swapped it out and I thought it was well prepared, very creamy and strong mushroom flavor. Unfortunately, we ordered this for the squid ink flavor so without it, it wasn't a particularly special dish for us. - Scallops: we swapped out the previous dish for this item and it was delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly, which I honestly don't see very often. There were 5 huge scallops on top of a bed of broccoli, sundried tomatoes and chickpeas; and even the vegetables on the bottom were flavorful. - Fresh cut fries: got this side because I was craving fries and these did not disappoint. Very simple item but plenty of crispy pieces while still having the potato flavor come through. Ended the meal with complimentary molten chocolate cake, loukoumades, and an assortment of baklava. The chocolate cake was not that melty so it didn't have that iconic chocolate oozing out with the first cut, but it was definitely very rich. The ice cream accompanying it was too icey instead of creamy. It was my first time trying loukoumades which are basically Greek donuts. These were doused in honey syrup which was a bit too much for me and it was denser than I expected. The assortment of baklava was delicious, particularly the one with chocolate! A very well decorated and aesthetic restaurant with great service. Is reservation required? Not sure, seems like walk-in service is available and there are seats at the bar or outside if it was to be packed. My party and I came here on a Sunday evening for a birthday celebration. We started off with crab cake (lumps of real crab), octopus (very tender), and Kyma Chips (a Kyma special worth trying). For entree, Kyma runs special almost daily with new option each time. This time, they had a halibut risotto with squid ink, but after ordering, it came out to be regular halibut risotto with mushroom (which was nothing special, an honest mistake by the restaurant). Instead, we got scallops with a broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes base (scallops were cooked perfectly). Along with family style meal, Seafood Linguine, and Lavraki (Bronzini) was also ordered. I must say the Bronizini still had scale on it and was not cleaned very well, but the flavor without he skin is still good. They also had a great lemon concept, where they tied a net around the lemon to prevent the seeds from popping out. Nice touch. Long story short, service and ambiance deserves 5 stars. Let's start off with our outdoor seating, now it was a group of at least 20 of us but they managed to give us a private corner and we used 3 tables at social distancing distance. This was perfect since it allowed us to be in our own area. They gave us what tasted like honeydew shots. We ordered the brunch menu bottomless drinks for $30 a person while allowed mimosas, Bellinis, red or white sangria, and bloody Mary's. We didn't like how waiters were placing the drinks anywhere (some people ordered lychee martinis) and it was a mess making sure everyone was drinking their proper drinks. It seems the dishes may have taken a back seat for Kyma as the staff caters to a weekend brunch vibe with bottle services, multiples shots and music so loud that you can barely hear the person next to you speak. I've enjoyed their brunch party here many times over the years but the music was never as piercing as it was when I last visited a couple of weeks ago. We had a reservation for 4 on Thursday night. We knew what we wanted as appetizers but the waiter refused to take our appetizer order until we ordered main courses. When I asked why he said they were only permitted to take complete orders. Odd. We took a few more minutes and gave our complete order. After a bit our appetizers came and a very short time after that while we were obviously still eating appetizers they repeatedly tried to take our plates away. Then the dinners came. While we were still eating dinner they dropped dessert menus and kept trying to take our dinner plates while we were still eating. We were not taking a particularly long time at all and the dining was far from full yet they were obviously rushing us through our meal. The food was excellent but they ruined our evening by constantly badgering us. Kyma is a gorgeous restaurant housed in what was once apparently a car dealership of all things many many years ago. The space is beautifully designed and lit, although a tad on the noisy side. The staff was attentive and friendly. But where Kyma really shined was the food. We had: Meatballs -- Delicious, with bold flavor and perfect texture. 5/5 Burrata -- A special menu item, Burrata with apricot. It was honestly quite good, but probably could have used a little more balsamic vinegar. 4/5 Plaki (Greek Style Sole) -- Very flavorful and well cooked. In a lovely wine sauce with potatoes and onions. 4.5/5 Lamb Chops -- Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The meat was flavorful and tender. 5/5 Key Lime Pie -- Honestly the best piece of Key Lime Pie I've had in years. It was fantastic. Delicious graham cracker crust that crumbled in your mouth. Kyma is a special place for sure. Between four and five stars, but service from JB put Kyma over the top. Will get to food in a minute, initial observations.... Valet was speedy, they took the Denali right away. We walked in, and the host stand area was somewhat of a melee. We found the host, and he let us know that two of our party of six had arrived. We were brought to our table right away, almost slid right to the table, there was something grimy on the tile floor and I had leather soles on my shoes. And an issue with the tables... there are no round tables so unfortunately I was only able to enjoy the company of four of the six people in our party. Our table was nice otherwise and we weren't over crowded at all or too close to other tables. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Onto the meal... Drink orders went in, and apps right after that. All the usuals were ordered that are written about here on Yelp, and they were all incredible. Tomato cucumber salad with feta, chips, grilled octopus (incredible), saganaki and halumi. Cheeses were excellent, firm / creamy in all the right places. Master JB checked in that we were enjoying our apps, and suggested we put in our mains. So we did, they were out of the pink snapper, so I was between the Bronzino or seabass. Went with Bronzino, but asked for capers on the side, I really wanted to taste the fish. Other entrees included the soft shell crab special, seared tuna, ribeye steak, shrimp, and Moussaka (standout). One in our party had a food allergy and JB was the perfect "goalie", not letting anything on the table that was off-limits. Nobody had any complaints, and everyone was really pleased with their orders. Now, time for dessert... first of all, it's hard to drink any Greek coffee, or should I say EAT Greek coffee. I was feeling adventurous and asked if I could get an iced latte Greek coffee. JB has me in stitches saying "I'll put it in, but I can't guarantee what's going to come out". He's the best. It ended up coming out great. He really had us laughing the entire night. A couple cheesecakes and dough-balls were the perfect cap on the meal. The dough-balls were meh. This is a belated review for my visit back in May. My family and I had a wonderful dinner at Kyma in their outdoor space. They accommodated us with last minute reservations, and had room for outdoor dining (indoor dining was open for those who felt comfortable to do so). The service was a little inconsistent, as there was a big party occupying half of the tent space outside, so the server swung by when he got a moment free. Unfortunately, that night happened to be a cold evening in May, and it was a little uncomfortable dining outdoors. The other issue was the noise level. Despite being outdoors, with a huge party occupying half the tent, there was also a DJ who didn't realize how incredibly loud the music was. I could barely hear the server's comments on the food, and he could barely hear me to take my order. As for the food, I thought everything was delicious. The Kyma chips I could eat for days. Even my kids, who won't touch zucchini, devoured them. The dip sampler was fresh and tasty, they also gave us extra pita when we asked so as to not waste the remaining dip! When I ordered the pork chops, our server was nice enough to allow me to swap out the side of French fries for cous cous. The parking lot was crazy packed, where the backup poured into the street. Good thing for us, we saw it on our way in and opted to park on the street. I would like to return, but I will give it some time. Overall, I had a great experience from arriving at valet parking to leaving this establishment. My 1st time at Kyma I was surprising a friend for her birthday for brunch and I later returned to celebrate my mother's birthday! When I pulled into the valet for the surprise birthday I informed the valet attendants that I was surprising someone who was arriving in approximately 5 minutes and I didn't want them to see my car. I thought they would shuffle me into a corner. Not the case. They immediately overextended themselves and moved a car forward and buried me behind it. They later brought my valet ticket and informed me when she pulled into the lot. This was a start to a great experience. The hostesses greet you with a smile and were very pleasant. The dining area has a clean look. I walked around the bar area and the surprise was a success. The food here is really good. The bread basket is filled with pita, and baked bread slices with humus. I would like my pita toasted more, but overall it was fine. Drinks: I've had several drinks here. You may say lush, but I say I was thirsty. Let's just say I followed the rules and was a passenger and not a driver. 1. Sangria white /red- both were good. There is a bottomless hour, I believe during lunch/brunch hours, but don't quote me. It wasn't really strong but it had a nice flavor. 2. Coconut pineapple margarita- this was really good. Not too sweet. It will definitely creep up on you. 3. Spicy margarita - if you like spicy drinks. This is a great pick. It's one of my favorites. 4. Midnight mojito - this was made fresh. Not with puree or artificial flavors. If you like mojitos, this is a great choice. 5. Winter bee's knees - the name can throw you off, but it was actually good. Not very sweet as the name would suggest. 6. Rum punch - this was my least favorite. I'll pass. Nothing meshed. It wasn't tropical and had a medicinal taste. I believe there was a heavy dose of bitters in it. Appetizers: 1. Oysters - they were really good. Fresh with a briney flavor. I could have eaten oysters all night. 5/5 2. Calamari - perfectly cooked. Lightly dusted with flour, seasoned well, and fried to perfection. It was presented with a red (marinara) and green sauce. You can also have it grilled. 5/5 3. Octopus - This was one of the best cooked octopus dishes I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly Mediterranean style and seasoned well alongside chopped peppers, onions and capers. This is a must if you're an octopus fan. 6/5 Entree 1. Branzino- was seasoned well. I would prefer it to be cooked a little more. It is a whole fish butterflied and sprinkled with capers. I would order it again. 4.5/5 2. Salmon - the salmon was cooked perfectly. It wasn't dry and seasoned well. 4.5/5 3. Seafood pasta- if you LOVE seafood this dish is for you. It's filled with sea creatures. That doesn't sound good, but literally it's filled with shrimp, clams, mussels, etc...in a red sauce topped off with chopped scallions. 5/5 4. Vegetable pasta- this was also a good choice. The tomatoes, zucchini, asparagus, and eggplant complimented each other well. 4/5 Dessert 1. Loukoumades - mini donut balls. Drizzled with honey, cinammon, and chopped nuts. I am not a "sweets" fan. But baby! These were really good. They were not very sweet or dense, with just the right amount of sweetness. 5/5 2. Baklava ice cream - this was a pleasant surprise topped with a cookie. I had 1 scoop and it was really good. 5/5 Kyma was a pleasant surprise. I decided to hold my 40th wedding anniversary party at Kyma this past Sunday. I chose Kyma because I was very familiar with the restaurant and already knew how much I loved their food. Invited, were 35 close friends and family for a luncheon gathering. The food was excellent as usual, and the menu was curated to address all of our guests' diets and desires. Laura handled the scheduling and set up. Isaac, our main waiter, earned 10 stars for attentiveness and professionalism. They managed to serve all of us almost instantaneously and seamlessly. The outside of this establishment doesn't do the inside any justice. The decor and ambiance reminds me of Italy/Greece. Clean, bright and airy. My sister and I came right in time for a bottomless brunch! Our waiter at first didn't want to serve us the bottomless- but with a short talk with management, everything was taken care of, and the mimosas came rolling in. The mimosas didn't stop coming! Not to mention- they were delicious. Arguably the best mimosa I've ever had. The food was mouth watering. The eggplant was fried perfectly- not over cooked or too oily. My burger was made to my liking! My sister's eggs Benedict was cooked just right! Yolk was runny and delicious. They didn't have baklava! So we had to make due with the baklava ice dream. So we came to Kyma ona Saturday night to celebrate my friend's birthday. We were a party of 6 with a reservation. It took about 25 minutes for us to get seated (past the reservation time) so we did opt to order drinks at the bar while waiting. The drinks were tasty. Once we were seated we ordered a bunch of appetizers and some entrees for the table. All of the food was delish. The waiters were also very pleasant. I absolutely love this place. Everything about it is marvelous. I love how it's surrounded by big windows and makes the place so clear and the white decor adds to the perfect t atmosphere.
