This business is very busy because it's conveniently inside HEB Plus, and there don't seem to be many like it around. I did a search before choosing this one, but the other alterations services seem to focus on wedding dresses or other specialty garments. At the time, there were no listings for Kwik Stitch online where I could read reviews or see a rating. I only knew about it from seeing it inside HEB. Even the "Kwik Stitch" FB page is for one in another country. When I arrived to drop off my item, there was a fairly long wait with other customers before me. I needed to try on my item and don't like how their changing area has a curtain that doesn't close all the way, in front of a mirror no less! A hook or something to secure the curtain would help. The way the tailor pinned it was not quite what I'd asked for and I voiced this, but she argued with me. She also kept laughing about my piece of clothing, because she thought it was impractical. That sounds made up, but it's true, and I found it really rude. I wish I'd been assertive enough to say "Never mind", ask her to remove the pins, and leave, but I felt in a bind, and hadn't been able to find another option to alter the garment. I also needed it back quickly, as I bought it specifically for a trip that was coming up soon.
To leave your item, you must pay in advance, and the price I was charged was significantly higher than the price her colleague quoted me when I inquired before dressing in the item needing alteration. Then they add on tax. So I paid, having no idea how it would turn out, but knowing it was not what I had asked for and expressed I wanted a little different, and the wait time is a whole week. I am fairly certain they do not call customers, and it's written that they will dispose of your clothing if you take too long to pick it up.
Fast forward a week later and I had a certain window of time available for grocery shopping a couple hours before the time on my ticket. It is otherwise the same day and only a wee bit earlier. I thought, "Surely they wouldn't wait until a couple hours before the pick up time to work on it, so it will be ready." Again I waited as there were other multiple customers there. When I handed the employee my pick up slip, she glanced at it and told me it wasn't time yet. I told her that was only a couple hours away and I needed to do my grocery shopping now, but she could not have cared less and cut me off so I couldn't speak. I asked her, "Isn't it ready?" and she answered in a condescending tone, "See all that stuff? That needs to be sorted through." She was gesturing to clothes balled up inside plastic bags, hanging on the wall. Is that what they do to the clothes that cost a lot to get altered, so customers get to remove the wrinkles when they pick it up too? I'm sure she could have found it easily if she tried, but she turned away, sounded agitated, and again, talked right over me. That is wretched customer service and I don't think they'd be in business if not so conveniently located at a grocery store check out. Their space is utterly disorganized and unprofessional, but still not as bad as their manners. I have now interacted with all three employees and not a single one of them has respectable social skills, though I was consistently polite and patient. Surely, I'm not the only customer who tried to retrieve an order a couple hours early, which is actually doing them a favor since their space is so overstuffed.
Now that I have my garment back, I have even more regret. It was done poorly, as was obvious when she pinned it, and my concerns were blown off. Every time I wear the item, I will recall these bad experiences with distaste. It was brand new, and they cut off the store tag as well, which was not their right. What they didn't cut off is the sloppy threads they left behind.
I urge you not pay their unreasonable prices or put up with the disrespect with which I was consistently treated. They will likely do fine due to their location, but I sure wish they'd go out of business "kwikly". Also, a week long wait, TO THE HOUR, is not "kwik" service anyway! read more
