An even bigger pain is when they try to fix it over the phone and they don't take notes that you have already talked to 4 - 6 different people with contradicting info on your account! Heck they even sent us to the office to change our modem.. We were giving one that our TECH said was pretty much obsolete! That's not cool! First tech came out and said when you need a new drop line... Few days later a 2nd tech came out and said no you don't need a new drop that person was an, "incompetent idiot!" Well he must know something cause he got us a new modem and got our internet back up and running in 40 minutes! This was after it has been out for almost 14 strait days after some maintenance Mediacom did to our building! So our last tech I give a 5 out of 5... The service and lack of communication and the first tech gets a 1 star.. We will round up to 2 cause its back working!

When I change channels, about half the time I have to wait 30 to 60 seconds for the channel to change. When I have called about this the AI service tells me to simply reboot my internet service by unpluggin and replugging the connect to my television. I have lost count how many times I have had to do this. Clearly, they do not want to be in the internet business as this problem has gone one for the last 2 years. If you have alternate internet service where you live, DO NOT sign on with Mediacom.

It's like they go out of their way to make every interaction as painful as possible. Setting it up was a nightmare, and expensive too--around $140 just to get started. I figured, okay, fine, that's the cost of doing business. Within a year, my bill went up three times. I said, okay, fine, maybe that's just how it is. But now? Now they're just making up fees out of nowhere. I got an email last month saying my modem lease fee is increasing to $17 starting March 7, 2025. Why? Who knows. It's the same modem I've been using since day one. If anything, it's old and should be getting cheaper, not more expensive. Then another email comes through talking about some "Facility Relocation Cost" fee coming soon. Relocation? Who moved? Not me! Why am I paying for that? Right now, I'm paying $81 a month for the same basic internet that started at $70. I don't game, I don't stream heavy content, I don't download huge files. Just regular internet usage, and yet my bill keeps creeping up for absolutely no reason. I swear, ISPs are the biggest scam in existence. If I had any other decent options, I'd be gone yesterday. Anyways, I wrote all of this to say; why is it so hard to cancel services? I'm looking for a customer service email and can't find anything. The chat bot isn't working, the website is glitchy, and they're an internet company. Y'all should have the best computer scientists, software engineers, etc. Bro, don't piss me off.

They told us that someone had to be there from 8am-5pm, so my husband waited for them all day. I showed up about 4:45 PM, and he said nobody ever showed up. We checked the phone line and it didn't work. We called CenturyLink right away before they closed, and sat on the phone with them for about 2 hours between different departments. They never resolved our issue. We told them that the phone line was not working. I told them that it might be a faulty phone jack, and they told us to call back the next day. I told them that I would not be able to call back the next day because I have work and school. My brother had no phone, so he had no way of calling them the next day. Now that I'm out of school, I am trying to set up service for my brother again, so I called and made another appt for tomorrow, Jan 13, 2026. I got a text from CenturyLink today saying I had to cancel an old account before I could set up service for the new appointment. So I called to cancel the old account and they told me I would have to pay all of the backpay for a service that was never set up. I told them I would not be doing that and asked for a supervisor. I spoke to Russell, and he said that I would have to pay all the backpay as well for a service that they provided. I asked him, "What service?" And he sat there in silence and then told me that he'd be looking forward to me calling back for whenever I needed future service. I informed him my brother had a severe mental impairment, but that did not seem to matter to him. I told him that there would be no future service, and to cancel both the old account, and the new order. I told him I would be disputing this through any credit bureaus if they send it to collections but that we would not be paying for a service that they never provided. We hung up, and I set up phone service with a different company for my disabled brother.

To summarize, I asked them to perform a lighting exchange from fluorescent to LED In my home shop. They came out within a few days, did a nice job of assessing the situation and providing me with the raw materials, then they did about half the job (the easy half), then flat-out refused (nicely) to come back and finish it. said they had manpower problems. They charged me the full $1500 amount and their invoice reported that the job was completed. I spent $1600 and a lot of personal effort to complete the job myself. After failing to get any dialogue from them, I plan to pay the invoice to avoid further hassle. The price they pay will be this review! The following is a letter I wrote two months ago to the company that has all the details of timing and sequence. I never received a reply. I certainly will never ask them to do anything else for me. I waited a long time to write this review because I just COULD NOT believe that a reputable company would behave in this manner: Dear Nelson Electric: Please help me understand. Early December 2022, I asked you to to revise the lighting system in my shop from Fluorescent to LED. 'Twas a natural choice, because you wired and lit my shop in 2008 and did a really sweet job. The circuit box is a work of art. You sent a senior electrician and apprentice out Dec 13 and we had a good day. He surveyed the situation, did some research, gave me good advice, and brought all the bulbs needed. The difficult part was five 8-foot fixtures on a high ceiling that needed ballasts removed and circuitry restored before placing the 8-ft LED bulbs. Your team didn't have the necessary ladders/scaffold to reach the 3 difficult (16-ft high) fixtures, so they did the easier 2 and left me with the impression they would be back. I never got a call-back, so after about 2 months, I put a call into your general office, and eventually 2 calls to "Buddy," job scheduler? I emphasize all interactions were cordial and I think admirably honest, except for one thing: I THINK IT WAS JUST A DIFFICULT, LOW-PAY JOB AND NOBODY WANTED TO FINISH IT! Buddy told me during the first call that he would try to get the completion scheduled, but a couple weeks later during my second call, he was honest enough to tell me that he was having significant manpower shortage problems and he didn't think the job would be completed within 6 to 9 months, and when I asked if it would be appropriate for me to prep the work place and hire a friend independently to complete the job, he welcomed that option. I understand that. I've done my fair share of difficult jobs. But I don't really have a grasp on how a company with your reputation could start a job and verbally contract to finish it, then just blow it off. I got a bill for services invoice (attached) on December 17. It is my personal compulsion, my mission in fact, to pay such bills in full immediately upon job completion. But it is also my cautious character to avoid paying for jobs that have not been finished. The services and advice (and of course materials) that you provided were valuable to me. I'm not trying to get out of paying for that. But it cost me considerable $'s to buy and build a scaffold and hire a friend to complete the work and I think maybe some downward adjustment of your bill is in order. The invoice implies the work was completed. Thank you very much for your consideration. I'm sorry this is so long, but I wanted to make sure you had all the details. Invoice attached. Sincerely, Mark Taylor

We liked the name, "Golden Rule". We thought we a name like that they would be a Good company to deal with. We had them to come out and fix our 4 treat old A/C. The builder went cheap and put in a 3.5 ton unit when it should have been a 4 ton. It was being server over worked to cool our house. I knew it needed a Freon charge. That sometimes means you have an A-coil or line leak. I get it. The two tech's that came out said they would not recharge the system because we needed an entire new unit. They said it would run over $7,000.00 and they would work up an exact estimate for me. I asked them how much I owed them right now for the service call. They told me $100. I said I thought that was a might steep for them to come out and not really do anything but tell me I needed to pay approximately $7,000 for a new until. I gave them a check and I told them to get out. I called another company that came out and done what I wanted them to do. Recharge my unit. They did it and my unit ran another 3 years before I had to have it replaced. I called them again when I could afford a new unit. They came out and installed a proper 4.5 ton unit and charged me $4,500. No problems since. Golden Ruke is good at training their tech's at extracting as much money as possible from the clients and not at repairing the problems. I called the company and complained after the giving the two tech's my $100.00 check for basically doing nothing to fix our problem on a very hot day. They apologized and refunded our money. To be fair this was my only experience with this company and it was a number of years ago. They may have changed management or owners since then. All I can recommend is buyer beware. Good luck with any repairs you need and get other opinions and quotes before getting worked done.
