Shanghai Fried Pork Buns: Puffy with hints of crispness on the bottom and no greasiness. Tasty pork filling with aromatics added. Hand Pulled Noodles with Duck: Depends on what you're looking for here. Thinner and softer than Gene's or Chili Square, but that's not a knock. Saucing that's neither salty nor gloppy; just enough to enhance. Perfectly cooked vegetables and lots of them. Duck with bones wasn't crispy; had more of a stewed consistency, but hearty flavor. Replacing Six pot hot pot after only about a year or two, Kung fu kitchen opened a little over a month ago and so far it's doing pretty good keeping those tables filled. It was popping on a Tuesday night as we were in line with many other people for their Yelp waitlist which took about 15 mins to get in.The inside is bright and feels very new with a wood style design that always gives a really open feeling to a restaurant I've seen a bunch of asian restaurants and places going for this type of style lately. This restaurant is Michelin recommended in New York so I was expecting much more but the food was just alright for me. Note, I also realized there is no Michelin ranking in Boston, no clue on why but it is funny Boston being the weirdo in so many categories but let me not degress too far from the subject. The soup dumplings were just okay, the flavor came mainly from the chili oil that they had on the table which I did like. The hand pulled noodles were very chewy but hard to eat and got cold pretty quickly. Food got to us out in a good amount of time but getting the check we had to keep flagging staff down for a while. I feel like if I went back I would go to try the wonton soup as I heard good things about it. Delicious noodles, Tara croissant was crunchy and yummy as well. Soup dumplings also good with awesome customer service. My watermelon smoothie was slightly sour, they immediately checked the back and threw the rest of the watermelon away. Also gave me replacement drink with another one on top. Well done. Came here as a group of four on a Sunday right at opening time and we're glad we did, because it filled up and there was a huge line of people an hour later. The space is large and bright, and the servers are friendly and attentive. Between the four of us we got the scallion pancakes with beef slices, Shanghai pan-fried buns, the house special stir fried noodles, two servings of pork soup dumplings, and taro puffs. In my opinion the texture of the pan-fried buns could've been better. I usually expect a crispy bottom, but the bottoms were softer than I would've liked. The scallion pancakes with beef also could've had more filling in them. The taro puffs were definitely the surprise hit. I really enjoyed the flaky pastry outside and the mochi-like filling. Must say they do keep their sku's down as the proteins are the same and you can choose what style to get them in. The spicy broth beef soup was yummy, good flavor (not that spicy) with hand pulled noodz for sure! The beef they use is similar to many viet dishes I've had and it's really tender. I really enjoyed the scallion pancake wrapped beef. Stellar on that one, nice crunch flakey and i could eat this as a meal by itself haha. The Shanghai pan fried buns are very filling, def enjoyed each bite, poured some the vinegar / soy sauce for the soup dumplings in after a bite open. The soup dumplings were standard size, filling and the wrapping they used kept the soup inside well without breaking. That's much appreciated. The wontons were FILLED and stuffed with pork and shrimp. Most places usually have tiny wantons with very little fillings. This spot makes sure you feel like you got your moneys worth ! IYKYK One of best places to get Chinese style dumplings and noodles. My favorite was the Shanghai Pan-Fried Pork Buns. They were super tasty, pillowy, and a good balance of buns to filling ratio. Of course you'll need to try out their XLB (Xiao Long Bao) (aka soup dumplings). I didn't try the chicken flavor one but they should be all good. And until DTF comes to Boston, these are probably the best in town so far. Prices of this review are $11.95 for pork, $13.95 for crab & pork, $11.95 for chicken. Of course if you order from delivery service like Uber Eats, the prices are typically higher. Hope to come back soon as there are many more dishes to try. Came on a weekday during their soft opening and there was a bit of a wait but the line moved quickly. It was also so popular for a place that hasn't opened officially yet! We had to wait for a bit for the food but I'm sure it was because it was busy and they're just getting a hang of the food. We got the soup dumpling, Peking duck buns and noodles. This place just opened in the area and I've gone 3 times already since discovering it recently. The wonton soup is the star of this restaurant in my opinion. The broth is clear and flavorful, tasting delicious but also remaining light. I believe it is flavored with kelp, seaweed, and tiny shrimp so if you don't like those, you probably will not enjoy the broth. Even so, the wontons themselves are delicious. They are pork and shrimp and they taste SO good. The ambiance is perfect to go with friends and also alone. I often go solo and eat while listening to relaxing c-pop music. Sad to see the prior establishment closed, however, I always love me some soup dumplings! Street parking is available, though the area of Brookline is very busy during the weekend. You can also take the MBTA T and get off at Coolidge Corner and walk to the restaurant. Let's talk about the soup dumplings first. Clearly a contender for the Boston area for sure. I have to say, crab and pork soup dumplings remain my all time favorite soup dimpling flavor but the chicken soup dumplings here was also surprisingly delicious if you don't like sea food flavors. My kids ultimately voted the crab and pork soup dumplings reign supreme. The thin dumpling skins and bountiful amount of soup in each makes them a contender for soup dumplings in the area and just a little outside of Chinatown. You have to eat them with soy sauce, vinegar, with some ginger for garnishment. If you like their soup dumplings, also try the Boston Soup Dumplings restaurant in Allston as well to compare. I like the latter restaurant more but everyone has their own preferences. Kung Fu kitchen is very delicious too! The beef and tripe chili order appetizer is another to order as well. I have had better elsewhere but doesn't mean the one at Kung Fu Kitchen wasn't good, because it was tasty too. Probably the highlight of the meal was their stir fry hand cut noodles. We chose beef. It was so good. It had a nice wok taste. I am still thinking about the first bite and although it's been weeks since I was here last and only now writing a review, it definitely stood out from all the hand cut noodles I have had in Boston. The house special ramen on the other hand, should probably be skipped. It was very bland. You'll need to ask for chili oil and add a tablespoon worth into that noodle soup for more flavors. Best wontons and scallion beef pancake I've had in Boston! The quality of items here is great and I have yet to try something I didn't like. Prices are on the higher end but justified by their use of ingredients and how amazing the food tastes! They can get busy because the restaurant isn't too large but it's overall a very comfortable dine in experience. read more

With XLB's trending in the foodie world, there are so many people that make them popping up everywhere. But beware, not every Xiao Long Bao is made equally. Okay, maybe in New York they are... but definitely not Boston. This place was so hyped up and I will say... its so worth the hype. I love a good steaming hot soup dumpling - with it's thin dumpling skin, juicy meat with all the juices in the middle, dipped in a little vinegar/chili oil/ soy sauce mixture, it's hard to say no to these little labors of love. This place does it right! It could be slightly thinner (the skin) but honestly, it outright beats all the other XLB shops in the Greater Boston Area right now. Surprisingly, I preferred the crab and pork over the traditional pork XLBs - you can't taste the crab too much but it changed the texture of the filling and made it lighter. The handcut noodles were delicious too. I preferred the soup over the stir fry just because I'm a soup girlie but they were both good. Broth was full of flavor and man the roast duck was *chefs kiss*. Atmosphere was cute, modern, and clean. Bathrooms were fresh and very clean which was a pleasant surprise. Staff were super inviting, friendly, and helpful. They were there when you needed them and not there when you didn't. I don't know how they managed to pull that off but man I was floored with service in general. Everytime I was about to adjust a plate, this waiter came out of no where to "take care of that" for me. Also, I've never been to an Asian restaurant where my glass was always refilled before I even needed to ask. This place was super good!! It is a bit small so there wasn't a lot of space for me to put my jacket/ bag which was a bit annoying but the food made up for it. The hand cut noodles were delicious, and the soup dumplings (pork long bao) were to die for. Their noodles soups are also always a hit - I always prefer their knife cut noodles, so chewy and soft at the same time! Their broth stand-alone is deliciously light but if you want a kick - throw in some of those chili crisps they have at the table. I accidentally inhaled a few chili flakes, so it went down the wrong pipe - thank goodness for water but it burn so good! Even with the chili crisps the flavors of the soup still held through! Kung Fu Kitchen, a Michelin-guide restaurant is here in Boston! They have a large menu but they're mostly known for their soup dumplings! I've already been before but went again to try even more dishes! For food, we got pork soup dumplings, scallion pancake with beef, sticky rice shumai, pan fried peking duck buns, pan fried pork dumplings, and wonton soup. The first time I went I got 2 types of hand-pulled noodles and they were not good so I didn't get them again. The soup dumplings are overall good but this time came out a bit too cold. I think the wrapper on top could be thinner but filling was yummy. Scallion pancake is fire. Crispy but still flavorful and the beef inside makes it even more delicious. I think they use duck sauce. Sticky rice shumai was exactly what it looks like- just sticky rice, would not get again. The duck buns were my favorite- they had the most flavor and it was a bit sweet. Pan fried dumplings were so juicy it squirted out! The wonton soup was kinda bland but the actual wonton was seasoned well so it was a bit confusing but better with chili oil. Now that I've been twice, I don't think I would go again but it's definitely worth a shot- especially if you like dumplings read more

It is relatively good value, considering the location and the quality. Certainly below a tier of Din Tai Fung. Good experience overall and one of the better ones in the area. We ordered the house special noodle soup ($17.50), crab meat and pork xiao long Bao ($13.95), Shanghai pan fried pork buns ($14.95) and taro puffs ($8.95). My favorites were the pan fried pork buns and the taro puffs. The puffs aren't as purple or as good looking as the pictures but they taste delicious! We really enjoyed this place. The hand pulled noodles are UNBELIEVABLE. Get the soup dumplings. The scallion pancakes are the crispiest and thinnest I've seen with a really lovely dipping sauce. We ordered a lot more, but that's all I'd go back for, maybe the taro puffs too for the texture. The prices are great: we spent $100 of food and two cocktails, left very full and with enough leftovers for nearly an entire second meal for 2 people. The vibe is bustling and casual, there were both first dates and families there on the earlier side on a Saturday night. We waited, but not too long. Ordered delivery and honestly, I'm impressed. Absolutely worth the hype. Everything was immaculately packed in an insulated, reusable bag (the dipping sauce for the soup dumplings did spill but not for lack of prevention). The only thing I wish they had packed differently was the wonton soup, wontons and toppings were packed separately from the broth which I totally understand why, but the lack of liquid caused the wontons to stick together. Wontons were big, thin wrapper, generous filling with big shrimp chunks and well seasoned. The broth was super rich but not greasy. The soup dumplings were good, good amount of broth and tasty. The roast pork stir fry hand cut noodles had a delicious, savory, craveable flavor. The roast pork was well cooked but not dry, good flavor. The XLBs were nice & hot + juicy! dumpling skin is thick enough so there was no leaking ;) The spicy beef with hand cut noodles was delicious. The house special was wet in a not good way and was overall kind of bland. Pan fried buns were ok. Tripe was flavorful. I tried my partners noodle soup and it was extremely bland. So 50/50 on dishes. However the customer service sucks. when I called the host cut the call short before I could add a not for allergies, and when I called back he was upset that I didn't order online when there is no place to add notes via an online order, hence my reason for calling in the first place. Honestly so friggin good. Get their house noodles and also the steamed pork buns! But rest easy knowing that pretty much everything here is going to be delicious. The interior is bright, clean, and spacious. The service is prompt and they use receipts taped to the tables to keep track of your tab. I think it allows the staff to work more as a team across multiple tables and helps everything run faster. I've been here twice now, once with my husband and once with our baby and some friends.
