Order a second round on the back of the chopstick paper
Justine S.

The decor and system of this place rocks. Every table and seat comes with a button that you press when you're ready to order. They have seats at the bar where you can even get served in front of you. The bar seats can be adjusted so you can see your neighbours if you're in a group. The only problem is that the latch to remove the separators protrudes and I kept hitting my elbow on it. The ramen is gooood. Their broth is great, noodles standard, and meat not too fatty. I got the original so it was a really basic bowl but still good. Wish they had a fried chicken bowl. It's just a bit expensive and everything added is an extra. Worth it for a fancy ramen night out though.

two bowls of ramen with chopsticks

The ramen here was so goood !!! We got the pork and chicken ramen and the broth was so flavourful and good The matcha cheesecake was so so good

The décor is appealing but it's already the third or fourth time In a row that we go to Kumamoto for a decent ramen, and we keep being disappointed. I like to think they had higher food standards when they first opened. I enjoyed their ramen a couple times in its early days. Now the food is bland, not flavourful and sometimes looks a little bit questionable when it comes to the quality / freshness of the meats. I usually finish my ramen to the lat drop. This one was left half full in the dish, so I would just have enough food in my stomach to make it to supper tonight. Not impressed, don't recommend until they put an actual effort in stepping it up in the kitchen.

For a Montreal ramen I guess this is acceptable. It has a nice Japanese setting with individual booths. Ramen: I ordered the classic tonkotsu. Broth definitely needs flavor and is not rich enough. Chashu (pork) was overcooked, and Tamago (egg) was cold. Noodles were nothing special. It is overpriced for the portion I received as well Overall a disappointment, the setting and service doesn't help the rating here. Ichifuku right in front is a much better option.

Best ramen spot in Montreal! The prices are a bit high though but the ambience really makes up for it. It feels very nice and homey. The ramen is amazing and the sides too!!! 10/10

Was drawn in by the Kumamoto aeathetics and was pleasantly surprised that it was private dining ramen. Quite common in Japan but very uncommon here in Canada. It was a nice change of pace. I enjoyed how convenient it was to fill out a sheet and press a button to give my order. The ramen itself was fantastic. I got the Kumamoto Tonkotsu. I'm from Vancouver and I've had pretty much all of the ramen there, so I would say it's quite on par. I loved it a lot that I even drank all of the broth. That's usually how I know it was a great bowl of ramen.

rotted chicken

The chicken (karage) is not fresh, the solution is very disappointed, the worst experience ever. I ordered a combo named "karage spicy tongutsu" (like this) which cost almost $19 before tax. While eating the ramen, I also wanted to have some karage (the fried chicken). However, when I had the first bite, I was sure that the chicken was not fresh. Then I had a second bite just to confirm. It's quite smelly. I called the server, first they wanted to offer me another plate of karage, but it makes no sense to change for a new plate if the chicken has rotted. I asked them to taste the chicken, and give me refund because I feel like vomiting and can't continue my dinner although I'm not full yet. They rejected to try the chicken because they "serve all the customers with the same chicken, didn't make a special dish for you" , their food"has no problem", and they said "karage comes with the ramen in the combo, since you already finished your ramen, we can't give you refund." That's ridiculous, 1st, I didn't "finish" my ramen, I only ate half of it but have to stop because the chicken made me feel sick. 2nd, that is not an excuse for avoiding the responsibilities. Finally, they said the best solution they can offer is to five me a 15% off. I paid not because I accept this solution, just because I have other plan tonight and can't waste more time there. But I am very disappointed with what they did. I will never go to KUMAMOTO RAMEN again!!!

This ramen restaurant is actually solo-friendly. You can get a individual seating, eat and leave quickly. Service is great and staff are friendly. I took the Red Tonkotsu Ramen (spicy pork broth). You actually get to customize your ramen just like the other ramen restaurant. Broth: Nothing special. Decent taste. Noodle: You can choose between straight and wavy noodle. I opted for the wavy one - Nothing special. Chashu: Not bad but it was too thinly sliced which kind of dissolve into the ramen. The ramen also comes with chop suey, scallion, wood-ear mushroom and a half boiled egg. The ramen is actually pricier than the nearby ramen. Overall Decent ramen. Nothing special.

My boyfriend and I tried this ramen restaurant for lunch today. We were very surprised by it. Decors reminds me the time I was in Japan. Private sitting just like in Japan ramen restaurant (waitress push the little wall between us so we can talk together) The water is self-serve at your place on your left. Menu is large and has pictures for every items with prices. You write your order on a piece of paper and call the waitress by pressing a button in front of you. She will bring up the curtain in front of you to get your order and serve you. We both got the original tonkutso ramen with not fatty pork. I personally add kimchi to it as well. Between wavy and straight noodle, I preferred the taste of the straight ones. The broth is tasty. It's very filling (I couldn't finish mine and I eat a lot). It wasn't the best ramen I had (the ones in Japan are better) but they are still very good. I would come back to eat there again :) 10% discount for students at lunch :) I would suggest it to anyone who want a good ramen near concordia university. Go for the experience! It's like being in Japan within Montreal :D

Japanese ramen in the down town area close to Concordia university and guy metro. I was impressed with the design. The spacers and individual seats feels like a library. It's surrounded by tables and chairs. I did find the ring on the tables when u reuest for service. I was there when the place was not too busy however I can see that being slightly anoying if the place is full since it's a bit loud. I had the spicy chicken (the hot source was added to the spoon so I can increase the intensity) the fried chicken was tender and crispy. I did enjoy the flavor. My friend ordered garlic oil Black Tonkosu she really enjoyed the flavor and it wasn't too much garlic. The pork was supposed to be lean (more like less fatty) The order form is clear and simple 3 steps plus desert. You can choose options.. I recommend the egg if it doesn't already come with. They don't offer wifi .. (disappointing for down town and student area) Staff was polite and did offer assistance when if came toorder.

Let me start by stating that the food was tasty. Probably should have turned away after the not so welcoming greeting from the hostess. We were promptly ignored upon arrival and only after asking her would it be possible to get the table she said maybe only to walk away and not once got back to us. After about 10 minutes one of the servers asked if we were waiting for a table and then we were finally seated. We promptly ordered and one of our entrees arrived some point later leaving the rest of the party to stare at me while I ate. We inquired twice about the rest of the order and it only arrived after we said to cancel it for I was already done with my food. It's a shame for the food was indeed good but the non existent service made the experience regrettable.

Nice concept, not so great food. This place inspires itself from ramen places in Japan where you can sit alone in your own booth and have minimal interaction with others. You sit down in your own booth, fill your order on a sheet of paper, then you ring the bell. Someone will then come to pick up your order through the curtain in front of you. The decor of the restaurant is nice. As mentioned earlier, this concept is also unique. That being said, their food did not impress me at all. At the price of 13$ for a bowl of ramen, it goes more on the expensive side. Such with nice decor, I was expecting a good bowl of ramen reminiscing me of my good days of Japan. Sadly, I was greatly underwhelmed. The quantity was very little for the price. There were 2 thin slices of pork, a few noodles, and some bean sprouts. The flavors were very bland also. At the beginning, it felt very flavorful but it got salty very quickly. By the end of the bowl, I was left unsatisfied. Overall, I would not recommend this place to someone else since the food was not great at all. Unless they change their chef or the way they make their food, then I might give it a try. PS. They were running a promotion where if you give more than 4 stars on Google Reviews or Yelp, so beware of their inflated reviews on Google!

I came here with a friend for a girl's night- and we were CRAVING ramen. She mentioned it's a new place that opened up corner St.Mathieu/St. Catherine. Location is not hard to find, if you look to the right of the star of L'Inde. DECOR: loved it! So new and hip- group of 4 or less people are seated along 2 strips of "booths"-almost like library stalls with a hallway between these two strips. You get placed at a booth that is numbered. There is a personal water fountain/dispenser on your left- which gets a bit messy because you are always spilling water on the table. Then there is a button on the right that you press when you are ready to order food or have questions (almost like a flight attendant button? but for food!) and the server will up and pull this curtain up to serve you -felt like i was playing kitchen in grade school! MENU: Super simple. You're given a menu: sides-include fried octopus balls, edamame, fried chicken etc. (min 7$); ramen- spicy/black garlic/bbq/classic pork and veggie- not much option for people that want variety (min 14$) and you pay for extra toppings (3$-6$ rediculous -a 3$ egg- and 3$ for 4 strips of nouri-get real people!!); there is a non-alcoholic drink menu and dessert menu as well.Once you have decided your choices you check it off on a paper menu, press the button and give your order in. MY MEAL:I had the black garlic pork ramen with extra nouri and an egg. I paid 27$ with tip (for weird service-keep reading) for ONE RAMEN DISH- NOT WORTH IT! I have been to kinton ramen and other competitors that offer toppings for 1$ a piece but lets be really if they want to get pricey with their menu- add more choice of food. The ramen was good though- a large serving with good seasoned pork that melted away with the egg; the noodles were a bit undercooked- and traditional Japanese spoons ( I found hard to eat with- maybe because I am left handed?? no idea) SERVICE: weird. I feel there this a trend at a lot of restaurants I have been going to in the Concordia region hire students that LACK customer service skills. For example- I paid by debit and the first time the transaction didn't work- the girl hands me back the machine and says it's my card. I laugh and respond I think it's the wifi reception- second time? no problems- BUT DONT BLAME your customers. #2 They give out cards to collect points for the 11th ramen free. Knowing I wouldn't be coming back here- I asked her if I could give my stamp to my friend-cashier says no- its one stamp per person per purchase?? again- makes no sense- why the big deal? like seinfeld- no ramen for you! Like any new venue- this place needs some work, I am curious to read the reviews in a couple of months. But for now, if you are really craving ramen and are on a budget-do your research and don't splurge here.

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! I stopped by around 8:45 PM, 15 minutes before they closed, but the staff were so kind and lovely, let me dine in, gave me a free drink on the house, and even told me to take my time and not worry about closing. I ordered the spicy garlic pork ramen with thick noodles, and I was blown away with how flavorful the broth and QQ (chewy) the noodles were. I didn't like the pork that much and found it a bit tough and gamey, but they do have two other types of meat (chicken, beef) as well as a vegetarian option available, as well as seasonal menu specials. If I was at McGill, I'd probably visit this spot a bit too often LOL, and I highly recommend checking them out for their comforting ramen bowls and incredibly kind service!

However, no dipping sauce is provided, all other joints that I've been to will give you a mayo dipping sauce, not here. The Ramen - noodles were perfectly cooked, however honestly package ramen had a better flavor than their Original pork ramen unfortunately. I had expected this rich and creaminess of the pork broth, that was sticky-lipped intensifying, but it was not. This was disappointing and thus can only give 2 stars. I can't say for other noodle type, but original pork ramen needs a lot of work.

Once seated, things happen very quickly...it is go, go, go (in the best possible way.) We ordered appetizers first, the tempura green beans with a delicious truffle mayo, gyoza and the tofu salad (they make it fresh every Sunday). Green beans were everyone's fave, but I have to mention the (pickled?) vegetables on the salad. So flavourful! Also tried the egg drop soup which is so tasty. Mains were the salmon tuna bowl, the beef short ribs, the shrimp burger, and 48 hour pork with curry sauce. Everything was wonderful! Finished with their soft serve ice cream, I had the cherry blossom but one of us had the sake, which is a shot of sake poured on top. Amazing! You can even have wasabi or ginger... I placed a to go order for one of the daily specials, the grilled sea bass with sushi rice and salad, with some kimchi. I also ordered the BBQ chicken with tortilla and salad, as well as vegetable gyoza. Everything was incredible. Truly. The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it. I hope to eat here often, for years to come and am so happy to see this iconic Japanese restaurant still thriving years later.

I thought I had pre-booked a reservation, and we were running late. Parking in this area can be a trick. I dropped my wife off and continued to locate parking. When I went in the hostess said it wouldn't be a problem and brought us to a table. My wife later told me she was offered tea while she waited. The waiter was on spot. He knew their menu and provided us with his insights. All the food was Devine. Beautifully laid out and brought out each course in the perfect time. My wife loved the hibachi, she doesn't eat much in general and I do most of the cooking at home. She couldn't get enough of putting items in the hibachi and moving them around. Guess I need a hibachi at home lol. Also my wife is 86 pounds, so she gets cold easy. The hibachi was the perfect personal heater too!! We had a great time together. The ambiance had that perfect Japanese appeal, while still modern. I used to live in Japan so I can be skeptical when it comes to Japanese flair & food. This establishment did not disappoint.
