After reading the reviews I wasn't sure how the experience would be but the food was AMAZING! Shout out to our server Natasha who was hustling all night and the culinary team who put the buffet together. We came on a Friday, had amazing prime rib, mashed potatoes, fresh Alfredo, salad bar, AND crab legs for $30 pp. I literally don't know WHERE you could find that. Food was good, coffee was good. And that's what I was looking for. What stood out most was the waitress. I'd had a rough couple of days and was traveling west. I pulled in to get some food. Place was mostly empty. Ordered a grilled cheese and a cup of coffee. Sat there enjoying the food and able to just relax. I'd paid the bill and the waitress came back to offer more coffee. But she brought a to-go cup for me. May not seem like a big deal to others, but at that moment it really made a difference. She didn't have to do that, and heading back out on the road with a fresh cup of good coffee made my day. No idea what her name was, but that little bit of effort made this place stick out in my memory. That was two years ago and I felt the need to post this. The ads show that Seafood Buffet is on Friday's, but when we went on 12/26/25, we were told it was a Prime Rib Buffet for $24.99 and $10 for Seafood Buffet. Plus, we had a party of 7 with infant, and had to wait 1:45 to 2:00 hours, as we were told that there was a party of 12 and 15 before us. We waited, and were told to sit on two separate table settings of 4 each. Hope someone gets the picture, because when I looked at the waiting list there were a good 30 people of 1-5 who went before us. The lesson were learned, do not believe the ads! Call or ask before registering, what the special is? Next, go as a party of 4 which is the setting available. You will get in sooner than later! And just to compare prices and food with Northern Edge which didn't provide a conflict with ads. I went on a Thursday and had the native buffet. Super fun experience. I have never had mutton ribs before and didn't expect them to taste like my moms lamb chops only more tender. The fry bread was delicious and the corn was great. The prime rib was a little dry and not so great. But when I went to a native buffet I wasn't really planning on eating prime rib anyway. POOR SaD SERVICE. July 5th, 2024. 6:20pm. We had a terrible experience entering the restaurant. The male host was not clear about the chow hall process to paying customers waiting to be seated (lined against the wall without pagers in front of him and the supervisor). He kept telling customers there's a pager list 20 to 45 minutes long. Ok so we all wait. Then it became cumbersome watching others get seated before us. "They have pagers". Our first checkin with host about the wait- he stated "we were 4 pagers in line," then it was "5th in line," to "no pager- go to the back of the line!" The assumption I guess, was that customers automatically should know the Kuchu protocol when he said Pager List. Why did he take our names and write them down then? What list was that for? No one would have known what he meant by "pager list" if we didn't begin questioning the host about the wait list. We informed customers standing behind us in line for him and his female supervisor regarding the list issue. We all now understood that in order to be seated in Kuchu's, customers had to have a pager in hand, even if customers waited in line along the entrance wall directly in front of host. The host with the "pager list" didn't hand us a PAGER to begin with but took our names. We had approached him four times regarding the wait time and wait list, and it was not until after 20 min that he clarified procedures. Customers who were in line with us and ourselves now had pagers. Great, we were now on the pager list. And then it got even more bizarre, customers who were given a pager in line after us were now being seated before us, wow?! Joy for the smirking host. What a strange way to represent Ute Mountain Casino. Seating people and handing out pagers appeared to be the most exhilarating complicated task here for the host and the supervisor. Perhaps more staff training is needed. The food is shy of mediocre. Horrible tribal business enterprise representation. Skip this restaurant for a better one in Cortez or try the truck stop store for snacks instead. read more

Kuchu's at Ute Casino you never disappoint when it comes to excellent food or service. We've eaten here before and the food was Amazing! We ordered green chili cheese fries those alone were 10 stars. Just the right amount of spicy green chili, evenly coated with cheese and the fries were cooked to perfection. Then we had a shrimp penne in a cream sauce topped with parmesan cheese that was really good nice and hot since it was kind of a cool night there in town followed by bruschetta now the bruschetta Is not your typical Italian style bruschetta but still very good. I was really impressed by our server Raymond he was funny, very polite and on top of what excellent customer service is all about so I hope to see him on our next trip up in September. I highly recommend staying the night at the casino or in there fabulous rv park if you're in town and recommend eating here at Kuchu's you won't be disappointed. read more

We are on are way back to New Mexico from Idaho. Stayed the night in Moab but decided to drive the 2 hours out here to Ute Mountain casino to have breakfast. Glad we decided to stop here The fresh made omelets were very good better than The moab Diner. Sausage links were very good and juicy and cooked perfectly. Our server Collette was very nice and very knowledgeable. Great customer service. We are hoping to get back to try this seafood buffet and maybe also the prime rib buffet. read more

I returned to this restaurant this week for what I thought would be the seafood buffet. The price is $27.00 and some change for this buffet. When you get a seat you have to wait to get a number, then you have to wait for your number to come up. This took approximately 1 hour and we were seated. If you had to take a number plan on several hours before you get to the buffet. Once our number was called and we could see the buffet, there certainly was nothing on it worth $27.00 plus. No crab legs, no lobster, no steak. You have to pay $20.00 a pound to get the crab legs. My party bough t 3 pounds. There were several crab legs in each package that still had ice in them. I ordered the pot roast and it came in soup bowl and the waitress kept calling my meal a soup. It was no good at all my food was cold the dinner roll served with it was hard on bottom. None of the food seemed prepared in the restaurant as the dinner rolls were hard like it was microwaved. For the price you pay the food was horrible. I visit the buffet almost every week for their crab legs. The buffet food quality and selection is very good. Unfortunately, the service is consistently poor. Slow to non-exisitent service is the norm at this restaurant. I was done with my first plate of food before my server brought out my drinks (water and a diet Pepsi). BTW, I'm a fairly slow eater but the service is perhaps the worst I've ever experienced in my adult life. After waiting 15 minutes for a cup of coffee, I asked to speak to a manager and share my concerns. There is only one server at this restaurant worth seeking and his name is Nielson. I wish that he can be promoted to head server trainer to teach his fellow servers what good customer service looks like. Please understand, I'm a fairly patient person. I didn't mind waiting almost 2 hours to be seated for the buffet but terribly slow service once seated is just plain unacceptable. read more

I brought my mom here for her birthday and was very very underwhelmed. The food was sub-par and the service we received was unforgivable. The staff was super impolite to our family. Jerald - our server hesitated to tell us about how the buffet operates. We made a mistake and we were charged for our mistake. We had heard pro and con reviews about Kuchu's, so tried the lunch buffet...and wished we hadn't. Kuchu's interior reminds one of a school cafeteria with white walls, and someone resembling a "lunch lady" behind the buffet. The spare ribs were very fatty with little meat; the crust on the chicken pot pie was like paste; the macaroni in the dish resembling "hamburger helper" was so overcooked, it dissolved in the mouth. The vegetables were swimming in a cloudy water with an oily sheen on top. The soup was thin and tasted canned. The "hot" food was barely warm, and had the taste of prefrozen products that had been sitting in the freezer for months. The saving grace of this awful meal was the mashed potatoes which were creamy and buttery. If you don't mind having all you can eat mashed potatoes for $9.95, and nothing else, you'll do fine. Seriously, if you visit the casino, have fun; but if you want a good meal; go to one of the many restaurants in nearby Cortez, CO. read more

They had hand carved prime rib the night we went which was really good albeit pretty rare. A few of my fellow diners mentioned they wouldnt eat prime rib that was so rare but I didn't mind it. Stayed at the Casino tonight and sadly the restaurant sucked. I probably would have done better with the buffet but I was in the mood for a steak. I got the New York strip medium well with a loaded baked potato and vegetable medley with salad. Let me start with saying the place was crowded with locals and staff seemed to cater to them more than the gringos if you know what I mean. Not once in the 2 1/2 hours I was there did I get a refill or checked on. When my food finally showed up the steak was well done. It took 10 min to get the next one out. The vegetables were cold, the LOADED Backed potatoe was about the size of a new potatoe. There was more cheese than potatoe. Cheese was all that was on it but there was a side of sour cream and butter. For this Loaded Backed potato I was billed an additional $2.50. Do NOT eat at Kuchus restaurant at the Ute Mountain Casino. What a mess it was. First we waited over an hour AFTER we were seated before we even got to go to the buffet. Then the crab legs are no longer part of the buffet. To get the crab legs you now have to order them off the menu for an additional $20. Bringing our whole meal to $50 per person because we've already ordered the buffet thinking the crab legs are still part of it. Which had they told us that at the start we would have skipped the buffet and saved our time and money. Then when we got our crab legs they were still FROZEN!!!!! And they served the crab legs standing upright in a TIN CAN!! Then they refused to let us have dessert which went with the buffet. Then when my brother asked for a to go box for his frozen crab legs which were ordered off the MENU not the buffet they didn't want to give him a to go box. When we first got there at the casino they told us that my brother couldn't wear his gator mask (which he wears that type because it doesn't interfere with his hearing aids which he explained to them) so they made him change masks, but when we were leaving the restaurant there were people coming in wearing gator masks and nobody said anything to them. Great food on the Prime Rib Buffet, they also have deep fried shrimp and other meat dishes like ham, chicken or mutton depending on the Saturday you are there. Usually some type of fish entree' and a good assortment of side dishes. Sometimes the cooked vegetables get overcooked because a lot of locals here seem to skip taking veggies so they sit too long. The interior was updated a while back and looks nicer but it does still have the buffet/cafeteria feel. The outside is being updated right now. They do have a full menu too but for 10.99 for the buffet on Saturday nights it is just a great price. Great desserts too but they change from week to week! Smoke from the casino does waft into the dining room and if you get there during the rush time be prepared to wait. Their seating system is a little odd, they wait until a certain number of tables clear and then they seat those tables, so if you miss one sitting by a few people you have a long wait until the next sitting. I guess because they are mostly into the casino business they don't mind people waiting because they hope they will play some slots while waiting. Friday nights are the seafood buffet which features crab legs that are sliced open for easy eating as well as other seafood it is 19.99. Prime rib is offered on Friday nights too. Native buffet on Thursday is OK, but mutton is not favorite meat so I usually go Friday or Saturday if I'm wanting a buffet that week. Wednesday the have a spaghetti lunch or dinner for 6.99 that has a generous portion and Sundays they have a rotating special, right now it is a Salisbury steak dinner with squash, potatoes/gravy and a roll for 4.95 lunch or dinner. I have been here for breakfast and was impressed, if I just went by the food served I would think I was in a nice restaurant. I had the Huevos Rancheros and it was very good. My wife had the biscuits and gravy which really exceeded expectations. The biscuits were light, fluffy and of good size. The gravy was good and served on the side in a ramekin so you can add it as you eat and the last biscuit does not become a soggy glob by the end. The meat is also served on the side so you can add that as you want too. If you are going for fine dining in a soft, low light, quiet, romantic environment this is not the place. We were on a drive and heard about how great the restaurant at the casino was and we had to go try it out. First of all, it's a casino and there is smoke, lots of smoke. I'm not a smoker and the smoke instantly irritated my throat, felt like I was getting a sore throat. We were seated promptly and the waiter seemed be attentive and very polite. The food wasn't as luxurious as I was hoping for, very similar to a roadside diner menu. Prices were fair and the portions were generous, I could not finish my club sandwich. The waiter made sure to keep my drink filled and I appreciated that effort. The dining area reminded me of concession lobby at a movie theater, it just had that vibe. I guess in all, I was disappointed in the whole experience. I've heard big things about that place and I had higher expectations. Before ordering my pot roast dinner, I asked the waitress if the rot roast was fresh. She guessed it was. Upon taking my order she asked what type of potatoes I wanted. That should of been a clue. I should have gone to this place weekly because it's the only seafood buffet closed to Cortez, CO. However, the waiting time to get seated is out of the question and unacceptable. I went there once a month now because of that. The dinner time is 5pm til closed. I went as early as 5:30 pm. I was getting seated at 7:30 pm.
