Solid 3 - typical Chinese American fare. I had the orange flavored chicken. Some pieces were overcooked and it was swimming in sauce. The buffet looked good but the price didn't seem worth it. Server was prompt and attentive.

I saw this driving into Cortez and it looked good. My cousin who lives in Cortez said it was the best Chinese restaurant in town. I'm glad we went. This is American style Chinese food and they do a nice job with it. It's a very clean restaurant and it's simple. I loved it, kinda' like a diner, and I mean that in a good way. My dad had sweet and sour pork. He said it was the best he ever had. My sister had stir fried rice and loved hers too. I had cashew chicken. Pretty good, too!! The service is friendly and efficient. They also do takeout. There's plenty of parking out back and there's plenty of room inside to come and enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. The menu is extensive and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a visit or takeout if you're in the Cortez area and are hungry for some Chinese food.

Restaurant Name

Greeted promptly with a smile and welcome. The ambiance was nice with soft piano music in the background, just loud enough to hear, but allow quiet conversation. Food was fresh and amazing. The egg rolls and cream cheese wontons crisp and tasty. The wonton soup a delight, with the Chinese cabbage, green onions, zucchini, and carrot. I had Sweet and Sour Chicken. My husband had the Cashew Chicken. Both were fresh and delicious. Cooked perfectly with nice vegetables and served hot. Highly recommend if you pass thru Cortez, Colorado.

Fried rice

The item that stood out the most for me here was definitely the combination lo mein, very flavorful. But even better was the lovely, attentive staff. Food came out quick, hot, delicious, drinks did not stay empty long. Even the views out the windows were great! Will be BACK!

Having been told about Hunan and the buffet by friends, we decided to try it out; unfortunately what we did not know is that the buffet is only served at lunch time. Arriving around 5pm, we found ourselves to be the only diners in the restaurant; the staff were seated at a back booth talking, but seated us as soon as we got their attention. After that, service was very attentive; making sure our water glasses were filled and that we were happy with the dishes we had ordered. We ordered two appetizers, Egg Rolls and Dumplings (choice of fried or steamed); these are made fresh every morning in house. The wrappers on the egg rolls was lightly fried and crispy; it was loaded with shredded cabbage, so much so, that it was difficult to bite apart, so it all came out of the wrapper in a chunk. I used a fork to break it into smaller pieces to dip in my mixture of sweet/sour sauce and hot mustard. The dumplings were not pan fried like other Chinese restaurants usually do; they were deep fried which made the wrappers hard and too crunchy. Before the appetizers were served, we were given a bowl of Egg Drop Soup; it was amazingly delicious. Thicker than usual, with little bits of carrot and so satisfying. Next time we go back, I'll fore go the appetizers and just enjoy the soup. We also ordered two main dishes; Combination Rice Noodles and Happy Family. The Combination Rice Noodles did not have any sauce on it which allowed the freshness of the noodles, vegetables, pork, beef, shrimp and chicken to sing out loud. A slight sprinkling of soy sauce enhanced this dish more; but it was delicious with or without the sauce. If you think about comfort food, this is it Chinese style. Happy Family made us both very happy indeed; the brown sauce was out of this world in flavor; the vegetables were crisp; the BBQ pork slices, beef, chicken and shrimp were all cooked perfectly. This is one of those dishes that, no matter how full you feel, you still want to keep on eating it. It was served with white rice which we used to make sure we sopped up every bit of sauce. Overall, the appetizers were a fail, but the soup and main dishes made up for it in spades. In the mood for Chinese food and in the Cortez, Colorado area; Hunan Chinese Restaurant is a must try.

Platters come out served family style so you can share or take home leftovers. The spicy mustard and sweet-and-sour sauce are created from scratch by the owner. The spicy chili ingredients added to the Szechuan are also created from scratch. The owner brought out a small dish so I could add as much spice as I wanted. The owner was super friendly and a pleasure to visit with. She was exceptional with greeting her customers and telling them until we meet again upon leaving. Would definitely recommend this place. The soup was very good, with about 6 large pork wontons and a lot of vegetables. The Royal Shrimp had lots of small shrimp and vegetables in a nice, light garlicky sauce. Not spicy at all and very flavorful. There were two of us and we couldn't eat all the soup or all the vegetables in the shrimp. We'll definitely order from May Palace again and try more of their dishes .

A 10+ year family tradition!…read more Every time we come to Durango, Mongolian Grill is one of those places that HAS to be on our list. I've been coming here for more than 10 years, and now it's become a family tradition that we've continued with my wife and our five kids. I was honestly surprised to see so many negative reviews about the service because that has been the complete opposite of our experience. We've consistently received some of the best service we've experienced at a Chinese restaurant like this. This most recent visit, we were greeted by Yawn, who actually came out from the kitchen area to say hi to us and brought coloring pages and crayons for our five kids. That might seem like a small thing, but when you're walking into a restaurant with five kids, those little things make a HUGE difference. And this wasn't even the first time she went above and beyond. The last time we were here, she was working on a box of Rocky Mountain chocolate and fudge and actually shared some chocolate from her personal box with us and our kids. That kind of service has been consistent from everyone we've encountered here over the years, which is a big reason we keep coming back. And that's separate from the food! We've tried quite a bit of their menu over the years, including seafood, chicken, beef, starters, and soups. On this most recent visit, my wife and I got the lunch special with chicken and garlic sauce. It came with the entrée, fried rice, hot and sour soup, and a spring roll, making it a really solid lunch option. For the kids, we ordered two orange chicken dinner plates to share. After serving up the first plate, we realized the second was almost too much food. Each plate also came with white rice, which the kids shared. Our kids absolutely love the orange chicken here. They've tried some of the other dishes as well and have enjoyed those too. One thing I really appreciate is that they can customize the spice level, which makes it much easier when you're ordering for a family with different spice tolerances. Another cool option here is the all-you-can-eat Mongolian grill. They have a full bar of toppings, noodles, proteins, and other ingredients that you choose from before they grill everything right in front of you on a traditional Mongolian grill. We've actually never tried this option ourselves, but we always see people enjoying it, and it seems to be a pretty popular choice. One thing I will say about this restaurant is that every time we're here, it's busy. It doesn't seem to matter what season we visit or what time of year it is. We consistently see a steady crowd, which has always been another sign to us that this place has a loyal following in Durango. For us, though, Mongolian Grill has become much more than just a restaurant. It's part of our Durango trips and a place our family has been coming back to for years. 10+ years later, it's still a family favorite, and as long as they keep their doors open, we'll keep coming back.

Amazing! I don't do reviews, but everything about this place was wonderful. Very friendly, seated…read moreimmediately. Food was exceptional the sesame chicken was off the hook. Mom had lemon chicken & said it was very good. Will definitely be coming back. Very quick lunch & we ordered off the regular menu.
