I ordered the fried rice and the twice-cooked pork, so my experience is largely based on those two dishes. The fried rice was pretty good. They didn't skimp on the chicken and the egg was plentiful. The chicken was cooked well and was not overdone. The portion size is very significant, especially for the price. Is there better fried rice out there? Sure. But not at this speed of service and price point. While fried rice is a pretty good baseline dish (because they have fried rice everywhere), twice-cooked pork (回锅肉) is a bit more difficult to find on menus. It's more of a regional dish with a colourful backstory. Traditionally it is made with thin slices of pork belly that are first boiled and then stir-fried. I was excited to see it offered because it's a favourite of mine. To be clear, this wasn't quite the twice-cooked pork that I'm used to. The meat wasn't pork belly (though still a fairly decent cut). It was a bit red-coloured on the outside that was more reminiscent of char siu than twice-cooked pork. And a bit thicker and not necessarily fried semi-crispy. But it was still pretty good! The meat was well cooked. The sauce was properly flavoured. The vegetables were plentiful, fresh, and not overcooked. So maybe not quite twice-cooked pork, but still worth ordering. Service was nice, and it was good to hear Chinese being tossed around in the kitchen. Sometimes in Chinese places back in California you hear more Spanish than Chinese these days. read more

THey don't really have competition so it feels like they don't really want to try. I had the shrimp in the mayo sauce and cashews.... half the dish was cold, and half was hot. So I'm not sure if it was altogether sauteed in the pan, but it was just so weird to have half-cold dish when it was supposed to be deep fried. The cheese wontons have IMITATION crab (yes, this is good for someone who is deathly allergic to real crab), so that was enjoyable. I wish I did the buffet, which is pretty cheap. read more

i've been here a few times since my original visit in 2012. all of the post 2012 visits have been buffet trips. lol. the lunch buffet is the same every day. it offers a couple of soups, wantons, egg rolls, fried rice, chow mein, sesame chicken, sweet & sour pork and a few basic food items. the food is not the best nor is the worst. one thing is for sure and the food is freshly prepared. i believe the buffet was $7 and soda is $2 which comes with free refills. if you ask for a to-go soda cup they will charge you $0.50. all in all the food is good enough to keep going back. the service is above average. everyone who works there is nice and can get very busy during lunch. parking can get very tight too! don't mind the fish tank at the entrance which is filled with water from 1987. give this place a shot and post a review! read more

So this is a Shiprock 5 star restaurant! 4 corners 3 star and any urban non-middle-of-no-where 2star. A step above Panda Express for sure!! And as the one of 3 restaurants in Shiprock a clear favorite. It's relatively clean inside and the owners are Chinese so that's a good start. We are big fans of the bean curd family style. Their pork dumplings are alright. All the soups I've had so far are pretty good. The orange chicken was bomb!! Service is usually pretty good. Bamboo house also has take out for those lazy nights that you want to veg out and eat Chinese. Overall a nice family business that I have no problem supporting. ^.^ read more

AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS!!! I would give this place zero stars if I had the option. The restroom was disgusting I attempted to go to the woman's restroom but the toilet was clogged so I stepped into the men's and it looked like vomit on the floor. My boyfriend insisted we stayed to eat there after I told him about the restroom issue. He ordered fried rice and chicken. Both tasted HORRIBLE!! I only took one bite and wanted to spit it out. I was in Shiprock, NM for a month and headed over for a group dinner during my first few days in town. I was curious as to what to expect from a Chinese restaurant in little Shiprock, but this was pretty good! My first impressions were interesting, though...we tried to ask the waitress questions about some of the dishes but she kept saying she didn't know. And when we asked if she could find out, she said no because she didn't speak Chinese and couldn't communicate with the chefs. LOL...it was actually kind of endearing and amusing. Luckily, one of our friends speaks Cantonese and was allowed to go back to the kitchen and talk with the chefs. She was also able to request that our tofu be sauteed rather than deep fried. I think the dish I ordered was called "family style" or "family" something...anyway it ended up being really delicious! The tofu was cut into triangles and came out perfect. The dish had a nice, savory broth-based sauce with lots of delicious veggies. And the portion was massive! I took home half for dinner, though I honestly had to stop myself from eating more because it was so delicious. My friends ordered a variety of meat and seafood dishes, so we all sampled each other's and I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the flavors and the freshness. As for the place, it's small and casual, nothing special. And everyone was super nice!! I think this is a great, fairly authentic (hence the non-English speaking chefs) Chinese option in town. Don't judge a book by it's cover, the exterior may look unpleasant but the food inside is more than pleasant. When we usually go there we do not get the buffet but order from the menu instead, which we suggest. The food from the menu is always hot, freshly made, and plentiful. We recommend getting the golden braised shrimp, cheese wontons, and kung pao chicken. If you do want the buffet, we would suggest going before noon, around 11. The buffet was $7 and contained all the basic menu items. read more

Love the food and prices are good also. The golden brayed shrimp is amazing! It's a great place for Chinese food
