I hired Raul and KSM Builders to resurface my back deck and front deck and to rebuild the steps into my shed. A lot of this was grunt work and that went well. They removed all the decking and railing on the back deck. When it came to putting trex down on the back deck it was very poor measuring and cutting with the boards being uneven lengths. I had to have them redo the "fascia" (added without my knowledge) which they built around the exterior of the back deck with the grooved trex. Those grooves would only collect dirt and were unsightly around the deck. They used trex boards to wrap the sides instead of buying fascia. I would have purchased proper fascia had they informed me they were doing that. The corners are cut poorly and there is bowing all around. When they began resurfacing the front deck it was a debacle. Decking boards were once again cut at varying lengths. One central stringer is not enough for 4 steps that span 4 + feet. That had to be torn off and redone. Also, somehow the decking is not all an even heighth. On rebuild of the steps they reused boards that had screw holes instead of buying new ones. I did have a contract with these guys but they never even touched the shed steps. Stunningly one day I came home to a white composite railing that was halfway installed on the back deck. The contract was for cedar railing. They talked me into it, though I had misgivings. They did manage to sort of finish installing the railing before abandoning my projects. Turns out upon inspection by a couple of other contractors my railing is absolutely improper and not code. They screwed the support posts only into the trex. On one corner they actually put corner brackets screwed to the house! So now I am having to spend more money to fix their mistakes and redo the back railing. What began as Raul doing me a favor and taking on my 3 projects has become an ongoing headache of repairing their work. I have built decks before and am appalled at how poorly this was all done. I guess KSM has decided that my $7000 has gone far enough towards the projects and they quit. I so regret hiring them. read more
