I wish there was an option for zero stars. I don't come to this store often because I do not live locally, but every time I do there is a problem. If you need help with anything, especially with self check out-you have to go ask for help and they will all look around at each other and argue over who is going to help. The food often rings up incorrectly compared to the signage and when you ask for it to be corrected, prepare to have a full on debate to get it fixed. Incredibly unhelpful service. The store is filthy and the quality of food does not seem safe for consumers. They should go ahead and close this Kroger and open the new one. There is no point in wasting time and money here. There are hardly ever registers open and the self-checkout machines do not work. We were drawn here because I was told that Kroger carried houseplants. They had 2 virtually dead plants on their shelf and the store manager, Cameron, refused to discount the plant. Im talking about these plant having dried up stalks and dead leaves actively fall off and he said, he can't mark them down until he's told to...what a useless store manager. Apparently this manager holds zero authority in the entirety of store that he manages if this is one that he can't do. Sounds like a load of bull to me. She helped me get the appropriate prescription when the original one from the doctor was ridiculously expensive. Kroger used to be my go to spot for Natural foods and produce in Mechanicsville. Sadly this Kroger has gone downhill substantially over the last two years. The parking lot is a nightmare, the employees are unhelpful and the shelves are never stocked. I'm literally counting down the days until Publix opens. read more

Misleading pricing!!! Had laundry detergent for 10.99 for a big one and it was 17.99 and I even told a cashier and she walked back with me and saw it as well and then she told me to go to customer service and they were rude and was like no and had a attitude and then walked back with me and said that someone had moved the tags and it was clear that it said 10.99 and they said it put in the wrong spot but there was like five others behind the one I got !!! Geesh, even for a few items a disappointment, Go to the deli ask to please slice very thin, everything thick, My mom cannot chew it like that, only if it is thin. I am counting the days until Publix opens. When I go in the store the employees are huddled together or on their phones. As I approach the register to pay for my purchases, they act like I interrupted something important. Yesterday I ordered online for The first time. My order was supposed to be done at noon, but I couldn't pick up then because power was out in my neighborhood for 7 hours. I called them several times to update them. When I called to say I would pick it up. The lady rudely told me that it was ready at noon. Well, duh! If I had power, I would have gotten my groceries. Also, some of their meat is suspect. Kroger continues to have long self checks lines and only one or two lines serviced by a clerk. I was nearby yesterday and went in to get oranges. Two large oranges were 5.00. I put them in the basket. As I was going to get vegetables I saw a large pile of bagged oranges in a cart. A woman asked the clerk how much they were. He said 4.49 When I got there I asked him the price of the oranges and he said 4.49. I asked him why they were that price. He said Special Buy. I put the 2 oranges for 5.00 back and picked up a bag of 10 oranges the same size for 4.49. After standing in line, the cashier rung them up for 8.99. I told him they were 4.49 and the produce man just told me that. The cashier said he had to go get someone. A person. Came and told me they were on digital coupons. I repeated what the produce man said about them being a special buy for 4.49 and that I wanted them for that price. She asked if I had the Kroger app. I did but didn't know how to use it under pressure. She helped me. I apologized to the people behind me in line and thanked the cashier and the woman who helped me with the digital coupon. It is my opinion, the digital coupons makes a customer pay more. Most seniors do not know about a digital coupon nor do they know how to use it or look it up on their phone. The company know folk will probably pay whatever comes up which is the full price. Wow! Have watched our neighborhood grocery store go down the tubes for the past few years. Tonight was the final straw. The stench of fish greeted us @ the front door. Don't know what was going on, but the meat dept was 1/2 empty. They were out of chicken breasts...on a Tuesday....@ 6:30 p.m.... and it was smelly :*( Then I saw this meat. Not even Freebie Friday or the gas points are enough. Customer service is non existent. I am happy to say, I have stuck by my word and never returned to this Kroger. Errors happen and I certainly do not feel experiences need to be perfect. Dealing with the public is not an easy job and I respect those who do it every day for a living. However, if I am met with a couple of instances of condescending attitudes and exaggerated signs of incompetence, I will not return. My 1 star rating is for pharmacy. Hours are 9a to 9p. I tried to get prescription filled this morning but didn't open until 9a. Arrived at 852p tonight and drop off window closed and 4 employees looking at a phone enjoying themselves. Lady offers to help me and then says I can pick up at 1030a tomorrow. I would miss another daily dose. When I explained that, she informed me she could not safely fill a prescription in 5 minutes. So she can chat with employees and use iPhone while on the clock but can't stay a few minutes over to count out 30 pills and even better I can't pick it up until they have been open for 1.5 hours tomorrow. I'm now headed to Walgreens to get prescription filled. read more

I'm assuming that this is the grocery store. As I was looking for ingredients to make my Red Thai Chili marinade, I was very impressed by the fact that the ethnic choices are pretty vast. I mean, Kroger is a pretty decent grocery store, but being out in Mechanicsville (I may be judgmental) I didn't think that there would be necessary ingredients available. But there were, although not down the "International" aisle, which only housed Central American and some European foods. The Asian food apparently is NOT international and is in the next aisle. Otherwise, it's your typical, congruous Kroger.. maybe they all have the same food items, even if I don't think people are buying them. read more

The only thing good I can say about this Kroger is that it's a minute and a half drive from my house. We went last week and the refrigerator where they keep lunch meat were broken, they had one bag of ice in each refrigerator. The refrigerators where the eggs and pillsbury biscuits were almost full and a note was taped to the door saying" these products are not for sale" but yet a stock person comes out and adds more products. Still out of stock on lots of products and the self-service checkout registers require assistance for almost everything... it's not self service if you have to keep having the clerk come over. read more

This kroger has a hold food/salad bar.. I was happy walking up to it but saddened when I looked down and there was no rotisserie chicken salad... That stuff is the best.. So I settled for a regular salad with chicken and a bunch of other toppings. I like that they have such a variety on their bar... And the sushi chefs behind there. I havent tried it yet... Slightly better than Walmart but still no one cares. I called the store 4 times before finally finding someone to ask if they carry a product and considering it was not in his department he said he had no idea. He didn't try to help or solve my problem.... just said it wasn't his department. Keep in mind this was the meat department. If he doesn't care enough to help you get to the right person by transferring a phone call imagine what they are doing with the meat. The Kroger on Mechanicsville Turnpike is always busy, always short staffed, and I've seen multiple employees acting like and saying they are overworked. I'd rather drive the extra 15 minutes to go to the Super Kroger on 301. They also don't have as much variety as the other one. They never restock Silk Dark Chocolate Almond milk. I've written this review while standing in line about 4 carts deep. And I'm still waiting. read more

Ever since the Martins closed this Kroger has been terrible. They are constantly out of basic products like green beans, Mac and cheese, and other items. I don't know if they don't purchase enough products for their customers or don't hire enough workers to restock. don't knock this place just b/c of it's coupon policy. all of that trickles downs from corporate in ohio. the basics of the coupon policy are this: limit of five coupons for an item per transaction, per customer. no split transactions. notice i didn't say 'per day'. i think you can go back get more items and use additional coupons at a different register...but i'll check my information source for verification. ONLY one printed from home coupon per transaction. i suppose you could do the same and try a different register if you have more...but again, i am not sure about this. as for the 99 cent item / $1 off coupon. sadly there is nothing the store can do about it. no such thing as 'altering' price of coupon, or same for 'altering' price of the item for that matter. it basically boils down to 'coupon fraud' if they accept a coupon that has a 'balance owed' to the customer. no wriggle room on that. i know it is frustrating, but that's just the rules the store has to follow. otherwise, this place does more business in the 23111 than any other grocery chain (maybe even walmart down the road). read more
