Who doesn't like a little roadside produce stand? I try to support local markets like this…read morewhenever I can. This market was set up off Patterson Avenue, a pretty busy road. I pulled over to get some Hanover tomatoes as the colorful advertising signs lured me in! I bought a few things, the tomatoes, some cukes, a few apples. Here's where I take my "stand"! I hesitate to say anything negative about local folks, after all, they are just trying to make a buck, but I was not impressed with the produce here. The strawberries were Driscoll's, the same as at any grocer and they were past their prime. The raspberries were fuzzy and the broccoli was not fresh at all! The prices were not even as good as the Food Lion down the street. But, I went ahead and purchased some fruit and veggies to support this stand. They don't take credit cards so I had to go to my car and hunt for change. The plants and garden décor they had for sale were high priced as well. The guy working there didn't know where the produce came from when I asked. I left and went to Food Lion and finished my produce shopping. Sadly, I wouldn't stop again, there are so many other nice farmer's market around that deserve and earn my business.

Be sure to walk through before you commit because some of the booths carry the same veggies but also offer more variety. I bought blackberries, tomatoes, lemon cucumbers (they are shaped like lemons!), onions and some beans. Prices are slightly higher than the grocery store but I like the idea of helping local farmers.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by how immaculate and well-stocked the place was, featuring a wide array of products from across Central and South America. The drink cooler was stocked with beverages from vendors I had not seen before. The veggie section was impressive for a market its size, but the star of the show was the vast selection of flours for making tortillas, arepas, and other delights--I've never seen such a variety! To top it off, the checkout experience was a pleasure, thanks to the friendly and helpful woman behind the counter. Though it's a bit off the beaten path, this market is definitely worth the detour. I can see myself returning often whenever I'm in the West End, even if it means going a few extra miles!

Lots of selection and good Indian music playing helped my usual wound up personality relax a little and get lost in staring at the wide variety of things, many I'd never heard of. I took my time browsing and thankfully I wasn't bombarded by employees trying to help. Later on when I got home I just happened to notice 1 of the 11 items I purchased was past it's best by date. Got on here and apparently this I wasn't the first or second person to have this problem. The thing that gets me is there were tons of what appeared to be employees stocking vegetables, you would think at least one of them would be assigned to go out and keep an eye for past due dates on the shelves. Really wanted to like this place with a 5 star, the music and atmosphere were on point but I'm really disappointed I basically wasted $ on something that employees should have been checking themselves. So far away it's a little difficult for me to return. I'm a big fan of Desi next door, and I'm sure I'll be back in the future, but next time I go here I will definitely take it upon myself to keep an eye out for dates. The store continues to be run mostly by children, with their friends hanging around being rude and disruptive. The yute (in my Joe Pesci voice in my Cousin Vinny, lol You all don't know anything about that). I was hanging out with one of @we_hungryaf bloggers, who was also taken aback by the confusion. Despite the delicious candy, I cannot recommend Sweet Shoppe due to the negative atmosphere. I love their peanut brittle, but both times I went, the yute asked me with a tone that indicated (in my opinion) something was wrong with it. You know you've entered adulthood when your friends tell you that you HAVE to check out a grocery store. I was always told they carry everything and were like a bigger Fresh Market. I've driven past locations around the Greater Richmond area and Charlottesville. Over my winter break for work, I decided to finally check it out. This grocery store is madness, but also incredible. We went on Christmas eve so it was PACKED. It was still a lot of fun. It feels like they have every brand or food item you could possibly think of here. My fiancé and I treated ourselves to some fancy and yummy groceries. My favorite sections of the store were the cheese stations (very organized with so many yummy cheeses to pick from), the mushroom section (almost every variety of mushroom lived here), and the wine section (I finally found Lillet). Like Whole Foods, they do have a food court-like sections. We enjoyed some pizza before we started shopping. There was plenty of parking out front. It's a huge place. If you're looking for a grocery food adventure, this is the place to do it.

They also don't have a value card and any coupons need to be downloaded on their app. Talk about making shoppers work harder than they should. They also do not offer fuel rewards like Kroger does. In fact the more I type the more I wonder why I go to Wegmans in the first place just because they have a nice store front. It's not worth it. Don't be fooled.

The Produce there are fresh, and about 1/3 less than what you pay at any Grocery Store and some of the other Produce Stands around Richmond. Since I live off of Glenside Dr., it takes me about 12 min. to drive there as it is an easy shot down Staples Mills Rd. Nice little place... Very clean, and I suggest checking it out. I spent about $10. today and I have more produce than what I can eat in a week. The only thing which they did not have was Hanover GREEN Tomatoes. I LOVE the taste of Fried Green Tomatoes. This was one of the BIG reasons why I went there today. Very disappointed. With Tomatoes coming in now by the bunch... They should always have Green Tomatoes on hand. Even if you do not like a Green Tomato, it does not cost more and they will always turn red.
