This week's sale brochure. Grapes supposed to be $1.29 lb. Nope. Charged full price again!
    Jim R.

This is our regular grocery store. Shopping here is quite frustrating. Several times recently, we've went out of our way to make it to the store to purchase items on sale, only to find them out of stock. I know what you're thinking, maybe I should go when the sale starts. We have been! I thought the supply chain issues were pretty much over. Most of our problems recently has involved the Meat Department or Produce Department. A few weeks ago, they had St.Louis Ribs on sale. We were at the store the day the sale started. No ribs on display. I went to the meat counter and asked about the ribs. The gentleman behind the meat counter just shrugged and said, "We ordered them and the warehouse marked them off". A week or two later they had Kentucky Legend half hams on sale. We make the trip to the store the second day of the sale. Same story. Today, we went to the store for Chuck Roast on sale, this is the third day of a seven day sale, no Chuck Roast. Spoke to the young man behind the meat counter. He claimed they ordered a pallet, but the warehouse didn't send it. Do you see a pattern here? A couple weeks ago, we were at the store the day their sale started (Wednesday). They supposedly had Athena Cantaloupe on sale. No Cantaloupe to be found. I asked the Produce Manager about the sale. He said the Cantaloupe would be there on Friday. Well that really helps on Wednesday. Also, even IF they have the sale items in Produce, they ring up full price. By the time you realize you've been overcharged, your told to go to the Service Desk to get your money. Often, the line at the service desk is lined up to the door. Today, we purchased grapes that were supposed to be 1.29 lb. We were charged full price. I didn't realize it at checkout because I was bagging my groceries since the checker didn't have any help.

Wow. A new Kroger. It's big! It's new! It's nothing special. Having been to Kroger Marketplaces in Indianapolis, the Jeffersonville one is a poorer sibling. Instead of a big deli/sushi/food court, this one has a couple of counters for pizza, barbecue and sandwiches. Instead of harp music on the second floor to help ease your digestion, there is no second floor. Basically, the Jeffersonville Kroger is the same one we had further down the street, just bigger. Same stuff, but harder to find. Oh, and they sell clothes and shoes. With Meijer less than a mile away on the same street, not to mention Kohl's, there is little need for fashion choices from a grocery store. I do like the cold beverage selection and the space between aisles. Other than that, it's nothing special.

Never enough cashiers or baggers. It's ridiculous to see checkout lanes 4 to 5 deep almost every visit.

Meijer's is trying to be a mini Costco in having to buy quantities ( retired ) that we'd never use to get a decent price; plus stocking and correct pricing doesn't seem a concern for Meijer.

I was concerned the ads might be a bit and switch, but there was plenty of product available. I snared quite a few bargains. And I grilled one of the porterhouse steaks tonight and the quality of the beef was excellent. As for the rest of the store, inventory is limited. Some empty shelves, limited selection, and most items are roughly 50¢ to 1$ more than a chain store. The locals have to pay for the convenience. I found it frustrating that many items weren't clearly priced. Particularly in produce. Also, OTG has its own off street parking lot for convenience. Is this an every day shopper? No. But sale prices provide a great reason to shop.

You know that scene from The Simpsons where Grandpa Simpson walks into a brothel, sees his grandson Bart, turns around and walks back out of the door? I kind of wanted to do one of those numbers upon entering Olde Towne Grocery. But I persisted, because I do love checking out local grocery stores when I'm visiting a new area. This one looked like it could have been so much better, but instead it was sad. Empty grocery shelves just give off a depressing feeling, you know? That said, the items that were on the shelves were arranged neatly, so there's that. There was very little produce, and what was there was just the hardy stuff that lasts a long time, like potatoes and onions. The meat counter did not look like it was in commission anymore. I guess a sparse grocery store in a neighborhood is better than no grocery store, right?

The NEW makeover done to the store has made it relevant. There is a new sign out front, new front automatic door, new paint and décor and most importantly, new freezers. The old freezers had frost all over the product. I believe the prices are fair compared to the larger stores and they have great sales on meats all the time. On this particular visit I found everything I was looking for and asked two people for a price on some Armor Beef Stew in a large can since it had no price. Both people went to find a price for me and I had it in about a minute's time. The people are all very cordial and helpful at this store. There was a moderate line when I got to the checkout. One lane out of three open. A very sweet girl came by and waved me to the next lane. I thought I was having a conversation with her when she let me know she was deaf and mute. I would have felt sorry, but she was so sweet about it and could read my lips I felt good about our interaction. I am guessing her name is Nikki since that is the name on my receipt, but I'm not sure. She is very good at non-verbal communication, as she asked me if I wanted 2 liter bottles bagged or not, and pointed to a hand written note next to her register that showed, "Have a blessed day." She has the most beautiful smile and I look forward to meeting her again. I was wearing my uniform from work and Chris, the manager greeted me by my name in the lane next to me. We had a short interaction, but enough to know I like him. I hope Chris sees this review and gives props to his people. I saw another man working inside today and other times as well. He is good to bring up a conversation and very personable, whether stocking shelves or getting carts from the parking lot, which is where we talked tonight about Super Bowl. I am happy to shop at Save A Lot in Jeffersonville and pleased with the people that work there.

At Webb's you can get your dry goods, but otherwise it's a very pleasant departure from that model. First and foremost, there is the deli counter in back and the lunch patio. They serve both breakfast sandwiches as well as deli sandwiches. If you pick up your breakfast or lunch to-go, they make everything to order and it's always very quick. Deli smoked sausage sandwich? $2. Country fried steak sandwich? $3. Biscuits 69 cents. Hot wings, beans, chili, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, cornbread. Want a can of beer with your lunch? That's $1. Webb's is also reasonably stocked with decent produce, which is great since there is no supermarket in Phoenix Hill. So if you want to pick up a couple of tomatoes or onions or bell peppers, you generally can count on getting them here. Webb's received a federal grant to provide equipment and support to carrying healthy items as part of the city's "Healthy in a Hurry" program, and this is the result. (The last time I looked in the produce section, they did have a bunch of girl scout cookies stuffed in there as well, but hey, you need to wash down that lettuce with something, no?)

For TWO DOLLARS (yes kids, not a typo) you can get yourself lunch. You will want to pony up an extra dollar though, for cheese (50 cents) and "dressing" i.e. lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc (50 cents). Still, even with chips and a drink, that's a five buck lunch. And where can you get that kind of a deal anymore?? I got a turkey sandwich, with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mustard on wheat bread. And I'll tell ya, its nothing sophisticated but it was pretty darn good. I would definitely come back - they had fried chicken and fried cod that looked delicious! Oh one other thing - Webb's does accept credit cards, but you need to have at least a ten dollar purchase, otherwise they add 25 cents onto your bill. Maybe you care about that, maybe not. Just thought I would put it out there.
