This review is in regards to a situation I've been having with one particular employee that's been going on for several weeks. The employee in question's name tag read Joe and he works in the seafood department. My experience with Joe actually started several weeks ago, my first encounter went something like this: I approach the counter and ask for a piece of salmon, I indicate that I would like the piece to be 6" long, he smirks at me and says, "sorry, I left my tape measure at home." I'm taken aback by the comment and the condensing attitude, but then hold up my hands to indicate, "the portion should be about this big (I hold my fingers 6 inches apart.)" He cuts the portion, wraps it and I leave. Next week, I approach the counter, I see it's the same guy, Joe. I check out the salmon and see that there are some portions that are bright orange and fresh looking, some of the portions are brownish and dry looking. I indicate that I would like a piece cut from the fresher, bright orange piece. His impolite response is that, "all of these pieces came out of the same box, they are all the same." I reply, "just the same, I'd like my portion cut from the brighter piece." His response, "They are all the same...okay, you tell me...which one is the "brighter piece"?" (read smug attitude here) I indicated which one I wanted. His mood was condescending and rude, shaking his head and talking down to me. I again indicated with my fingers that I wanted a 6" piece. He cut my piece, wrapped it and I left. Today I ran into Joe again. Once more, I indicated with my fingers that I wanted a 6" portion, because I know, "he left his tape measure at home." He flat out told me, "I can't do that, you have to tell me how much you want in weight." I'm flabbergasted, I ask him why? He proceeds to make some random argument that they are thin at one end and thicker at the other. At this point I'm like...You can't just cut 6 inches of fish off for me?? His reply, no I can't do that, you have to give me a weight, I'm speechless. I say well maybe it weighs 1/2 a pound, so he cuts 1/2 a pound and it's 2" less than I need and I tell him so. I need 6 inches of salmon, that's too short. He then says with attitude, well maybe you need 3/4 of a pound?? At this point, I'm just like, okay what ever, just give me the fish. I say to him, "everyone else that works here would just cut 6 inches of filet for me, his response, "no, no they wouldn't". Excuse me, but this guy, Joe, did just that same thing for me the week before and the week before that! Not to mention all the nice boys that work there, have always done that for me before. Joe, telling me that I must give him a weight, other wise I wont cut it for you is ridiculous and makes absolutely no sense. I really feel discriminated against, maybe because I am an alternative looking person. I have a shaved head, piercings and such. I only say this because, I have waited in line and have seen him be polite and cheerful to everyone but me. And before anyone pegs me for one of those beastly creatures that most absolutely have to have their way, I am not. I have worked in retail service for 25+ years, I know what it's like, I go out of my way to be polite, pleasant and cheerful towards the people that serve me, smiles and please and thank you sir and I appreciate your help. I have not given this man one reason to lash out at me. It's just a ridiculous situation. It makes no sense, I need 6 inches of salmon filet, I don't know how much it weighs and it makes no difference if I did, he doesn't use the weight to measure and cut it. They cut the fish and then put it on the scale. If I need 6 inches of fish then cut 6 inches and put it on the scale, wrap it and I'm out of your hair. Sheesh... read more
