Literally the only complaints I have for this Kroger is that they have stopped carrying my favorite flavor of la croix and they don't have a huge selection of cat food. Other than that they always have what I need Want Starbucks? Salad bar? Sushi? Fresh smoothies and juice? Hot meals prepared for you? Free samples??? This Kroger has everything. They also have a huge selection of alcohol that my roommate and I go to frequently. I have used the click list feature a few times and it's really great. It saves a lot of time and the first 3 times you use it there's no extra charge. Definitely check it out while it's free! The free items they have on Friday's are usually pretty great too. Beware when using the bakery. Their lack of attention to detail is horrible. I ordered a custom cake and cupcakes. The cake was put in the wrong size box which ruined the icing decor on the sides. A bagger threw the cupcakes in a sack tip on its end and every cupcakes looks dribbled. I am beyond disappointed. read more

High prices. One cashier. Incredible aisles of super-carbohydrate/snacks, non-grocery merchandise, and a selection frenzy of useless stuff. If you carefully shop their dozens upon dozens of aisles, you'll find the occasional bargain. This is why Aldi, Fresh Thyme, Bloomingfoods, and international markets thrive in the Bloomington area. I always have the worst luck with this Kroger. Things are so hard to find. They have popcorn and some other tortilla chips and aisle five, then they have even more chips and popcorn and aisle 19. Someone tell me why that makes sense. I don't care if it's organic popcorn. Put it with the rest of the popcorn. I don't want to walk 14 aisles just to find some popcorn. And, I guess I should have went to self-checkout if I wanted my coupons to work or at least have someone who could help me more. The cashier just scans the coupon and if it doesn't work, she just hands them back. I try extra hard to match up my coupons with the things I buy, so I know very well that the coupons I have should've worked. The cashier acted like she did not want to be there at all. Why am I posting a review for Kroger's? Yes. I know. They have an awesome dirt plot for mushrooms that you can pick and buy and devour. Sorry, I love mushrooms and my local Kroger has no indoor mushroom plot. :( All of our mushrooms come in those plastic containers. I can't really give a proper review since I can't really buy everything I would like and bring back to my hotel room with my tiny fridge. However, from what I've seen, this Kroger is huge. It has a prepared food section, self-serve bars, tons of fresh produce that I just wanted to throw into my cart and veggie-nap, many "health" foods (organic, etc.) and the usual stuff like snacks to drug store items like over the counter meds, band aids, household items, and hygiene items. Sure, it sounds pretty standard, but what really made this stand out were the fresh mushrooms in that soil. The entire place was also huge and I didn't feel one bit claustrophobic. Hard to explain a Kroger...especially this one. They have expanded this store a number of times and it is now huge...it has to be the main grocery store for the campus of Indiana University, it is located on College Mall Road...it is a supercenter and offers just about anything a student might want for his/her apartment/dorm room in relation to food/notions. While it is a grocery store, it is listed under department stores because of its wide offerings. They have a pharmacy...a prepared food area...a bakery...a cheese section...a bulk products aisle...a smoothie bar...a large liquor section...a very nice meats and fish selection in addition to normal deli offerings, and this is all over and above the normal two-dozen aisles of regular grocery products. Add in the extensive FFV (fresh fruits and vegetables) and frozen foods and you have grocery mecca. Oh yeah, they have flowers and birthday cards and household goods. With all the IU spirit wear of the customers, it makes you feel right in place with the students. My wife will affirm that the ladies' restroom is to die for....or some other euphemism...and there is a little waiting room for those who are...well, waiting. Large parking lot...gas station out front...this place has it all. They sell pumpkins at Thanksgiving/Halloween and seem to have offerings for every season. They also follow IU's athletics and offer season appropriate wear and goods. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

Some of the prepared foods are pretty tasty, I'll give them that. And though they charge 'way too much, the Murray's cheese counter has good stuff. Other than that...well, it used to be great. They'd be short of things but just once in a while. Like, you know not to go there Sunday evenings or when students are coming back for fall semester. But ever since Marsh went out of business, Kroger clearly doesn't give a s**t about keeping shelves stocked, at all. I think they're well aware of this. It used to be routine for cashiers to ask, "Did you find everything?" Now they never do. If they did, they'd get an earful. Case in point: tonight, no mushrooms, none. No broccoli, zucchini, cucumbers. No bagged salad greens. No whole wheat bread. Better breads (like La Brea) almost gone, hardly any selection. No granola bars. All that on top of regularly finding out-of-date items in their dairy case. CHECK YOUR YOGURT OUT-DATES, FOLKS! I can't WAIT for Fresh Thyme to open a block north of here. I go to this Kroger frequently. I like that it has a wide variety of things, items not usually found at a grocery store, so allows me to get most everything I need without having to go to Target or CVS. It also has a lot of unusual or uncommon items not found at other Kroger's. But, it almost never fails that they are out of so many common things. It is very frustrating. Indiana University students refer to this mega-store as Kro-Gucci. This place is packed full of food. To me, it feels like the largest Kroger in the United States. Yeah, that big. It's so massive, I often leave before buying my wine because I'm too lazy to walk to the liquor section, which is past all the speciality food places like the Bistro of Bloomington, Sushi bar, Starbucks, Juice Bar, AND MORE. The Bistro alone has an Asian Kitchen, fresh chicken, smoked BBQ, Pizza, Burgers, and Burritos. There's even a large seating area to take your restaurant quality meal. I had a fancy sandwich once with blueberries, goat cheese, and spinach. Sounds weird, but the combo was great. Even their bakery makes more in-house, artisinal treats than smaller Krogers. They're always changing the menus and offerings, too. Besides the speciality food shops within this Kroger, every other aspect is like a typical store. However, the international food aisle isn't too extensive. It has common items, though. If you want a leisurely shopping experience where you can take a break and have a snack or meal. This place will hit the spot. read more

What a cool grocery store for this college town! I loved the selection of cheese and carry out items. They also have a huge bistro for hot foods, an Asian buffet, a sushi train, and ample seating. There were tons of student communing and eating. There are also plenty of locally made goods for purchase. read more

This is an amazing Kroger! Excellent cheese selection, which automatically makes it a favorite. They're happy to let you try a cheese if you're on the fence about it! Rumor has it there's a tricycle baguette lady that wheels around trying to sell bread in that section. Pretty large beer and wine selection with nice case discounts. Fun food stations like grilled cheese, Asian (their pho is delish!), fried yummies, a nice salad bar, etc. Moving on through the store, they have a chocolate section with homemade delectables which includes a chocolate fountain and chocolate covered Oreos. YUM. Nearby for when you feel bad about buying all the chocolate things is their produce area. Tons of interesting stuff, some of which I had never even heard of before! And a smoothie and fresh juice station. Their fresh squeezed OJ is really a treat for your weekend mimosas. Their meats and seafood section are just ok for my taste (I like Lucky's better), but they're less expensive than Lucky's for many items and have specialty things that Aldi's, which is way cheaper than both of them, doesn't have. Their pharmacy is fast and helpful. Baby food section has a great selection! Especially the teething biscuits. And their ice creams, cookies and breads are delish. The size of the store can be a bit overwhelming. I don't even think it's possible to get through the whole store in one trip if you try. Somehow this Kroger thinks you should be going on a treasure hunt every time you go to the store. Their constant changing of locations of items does nothing more than piss people off. Not to mention they have given up on cashiers and actually checking customers out. They rather you do that too. This experience is the worst. If you're looking for good produce, look somewhere else. As with ANY Kroger I've been to, even when I lived in Cincinnati, it's a total crap shoot. Some produce is decent, some good, but over the years I've lost. a lot of money to things, like peaches that look good, but are actually gray on the inside and taste bad. Strawberries often mold within a day or so, even when in the fridge. Lots of fruit goes bad much faster than what I get at other stores. Bakery deserts, forget it, I've had better stuff from just about any other market. Some packaged foods are fine and when certain things are on sale the prices can be really good. I've known a lot of people that work at different locations and they all said it's a pretty bad place to work. They tend to monopolize, driving other places out of town, then lowering standards once the competition is done. read more

I'm currently standing in line here. They only have 2 lines open. This happens frequently - they depend mainly on the self check out, but for those of us doing a lot of shopping, that doesn't work well. In the past after waiting in line I always also have to bag my own groceries. They should open more lines -the wait here is always ridiculous. Kroger on the Eastside is bit soul-sucking. By the time I leave, I feel like I've lost a little of my soul. There's nothing like paying higher prices to check out and bag your own food. Not only do they "encourage"(aka force)... people to check out themselves by shutting down so many manned check-out lanes, but they've pretty much done away with people to bag your food, so you have to do it yourself. Now don't get me wrong, I really don't mind bagging my own food BUT, if that is the arrangement, I do expect lower prices(such as Aldies). I just wish there could be some competition! We need more non-Kroger grocery stores!! I love Lucky's so will continue to give them as much business as I can..but they are a bit out of our way, unfortunately. read more

Customer service here is not only non-existent, but usually openly hostile. I'm a manager at an anonymous large retail company, and if any of my employees treated our customers like the folks here have treated me, they'd be out the door by then end of the day. I should clarify, I've never once asked a Kroger employee for help. I don't bother them, and let them work. Once, as I was leaving, one of the carts locked up on me. Anti-cart theft type mechanism, I pulled the cart to the side so nobody else would use it, and as I did so the worker from the self-checkout approached me and said extremely loudly "How do you expect the next person to use that?". Rather taken aback, I apologized, and let him know that I had set it aside so nobody else would use it. He ignored me, and huffed off back to the checkouts. Another example is when my roommate was browsing the hot bar, and I was standing nearby while he got what he needed. As I was standing nearby, minding my own business, an employee approached me, and asked me rather rudely to move back as "hanging out" by the hot bar can contaminate it. Once again, I apologized, not realizing I was in the wrong. Again, the employee rushed off, no apology, no "It's alright, most people don't know". Again, I am a retail manager, I know how nasty customers can be, and have been treated like dirt by many in my day. I am not one of those customers. I don't bother employees, and I don't belittle them, and yet I'm still being treated poorly by the employees here. All I want is to come in, get my shopping done, and get out. Literally take my money and I won't wast your man hours by taking employee time. But after numerous occasions like this (this has happened more times than just these two) I've taken my shopping elsewhere. I now drive 15 minutes to Wal-Matt on the other side of town instead of the 3 minutes to Kroger because I just want to be left alone while I shop. read more

This is a supercenter Kroger. It's HUGE compared to the one on 2nd. There is a juice bar, Starbucks, and bistro inside. Reminds me of a Whole Foods! They also had a whole side dedicated to just alcohol. The BF was super happy about that. Bakers and cooks will have a blast in the bulk section. Wish they had a bigger selection of herbs and spices though!! read more
