The Laid Back Cat

The Laid Back Cat

For more than a decade, I've toured the U.S. with my cat. I've had him boarded in tens of places in…read morecountless cities and many states. To date, The Laid Back Cat is far and above the best place. The rooms are large, they have windows, they have multiple shelves at different heights. The rooms allow for the cats to hide away from the otehr cats or to see and communicate with them. Some of the rooms are inside-outside. The complex is quiet, clean (no urine, cat litter, old food or other such odors!), and spacious. Although it's far from Raleigh, it's worth the hour-plus drive each way even if my cat is to be boarded just for a couple days.

Our Misu girl received so much love while she was here over the holidays! From the beginning when…read morewe first met Crystal and Ms. Doreen, we could tell they were real cat ladies. We just moved into Durham a few months ago and didn't realize most owners had their cats reserved 3-4 months in advance before the holidays for the usual tall rooms. My husband and I were desperate due to flight plans (& we wanted a cat only kennel) and they squeezed our 9 month kitten into their lobby 1 month before. They made her (and us) feel such a VIC (very important cat)/VIP, we were so grateful she ended up as being their last minute office cat for the 7 days we were gone. They were very meticulous to make sure the doors were locked if she was outside of her kennel. Misu girl was so spoiled, received so many head pets (with bonus daily pics and/or videos), and we absolutely would not hesitate to bring her back to the Laid Back Cat next time we need to go out of town. They really treat your cat as if it was their own family member. Oh yeah, she loves the fuzzy white ball they gifted her for Christmas! THANK YOU!! /// FYI Crystal & Ms. Doreen do live on a separate building on the same property (which is awesome) & calling is the best mode of communication if you need to reach them.

Top Dog Training and Resort

Top Dog Training and Resort

Top Dog is top notch! We began our relationship with this fantastic organization in May when we…read morerealized the puppy we brought home in February was skittish and unfamiliar with anyone but our immediate family due to, well, the COVID quarantine becoming our new reality. She was fearful of other dogs and people and was becoming unmanageable (even at 6 months) on the leash. This is a Lab, we're talking about, so, the affable, even-tempered dog we thought we were getting was not quite that and we hoped we could find a place to help acclimate her, train her and give her the confidence to step outside the house unafraid of...everything. We began with day school and though she was a bit timid at first, the trainers were patient and helped acclimate her to the other dogs. We then made the tough decision to go for the 3-week boarding/training option as she was still too unwieldy on the leash and was starting to act aggressive to passersby. It was heartbreaking to turn her over for three-weeks as she had already become part of our family - there were tears, for sure, and not just mine! However, we trusted Top Dog to treat her as their own and deliver the training she so desperately needed. Three-weeks later, we picked up our beloved pup and saw that she had not only bonded to her trainer, but was thrilled to see us and was expertly trained and responsive to a whole host of new commands. The trainer (Ashley, she's the BEST), took time to explain her whole process with us and, effectively train me and my family, on how to deal with our pup once we got her home, noting that the training must be kept up at home if it is to truly stick (this is a VERY important point to remember). We have stayed true (mostly) to Ashely's teachings and have continued to see amazing progress with our pup. Additionally, we have received personal, in-home training since the boarding (three follow-up visits were part of our package) and that has been immensely helpful. While there is no question that our pup loves us more than anyone, she is genuinely bonded with Ashley and trusts her implicitly. This has made Top Dog our beloved pup's home-away-from-home and we have been pleased to get to know the other trainers and owners via weekly drop offs for Day School. Top Dog's facilities are well kept, provide a lot of stimulation for the dogs and are located on the same property as the owner's personal home. We are so appreciative to have found Top Dog and have recommended them to friends and neighbors who have recently acquired their own "COVID pups". As for boarding, we feel 100% confident that when we do travel again, Top Dog will take the very best care of our four-legged-family member.
