I've made a commitment to read more fictional literature this year, and this place has such a large selection despite its relatively quaint appearance. Came here for a snack on a Saturday afternoon. Kramers had a lovely ambience inside, although the layout of the place is a bit awkward. The BBQ fries were yummy, and the Brussels sprouts were good, if a bit overcooked. Cocktails and tea were good, matcha latte was not very strong- would not recommend. Their carrot cake looked insanely good, one portion probably was enough to feed at least 4 people. Overall I would come back for the bookstore and the vibes, would need to try more food. read more

Spent a while perusing their extensive book selections before enjoying a delicious breakfast to go! Enjoyed the "Kramer's breakfast" which consisted of house made O'Brien potatoes, 4 hearty slices of bacon, toast & two over easy eggs. The idea of having a book store and a restaurant together is so cleaver. I enjoyed walking around the book store and then grabbing something to eat. First and foremost the truffle Mac and cheese was delicious. They used different blocks of cheese to enhance the flavor of the Mac and cheese and it was shareable. The cinnamon French toast was amazing as well! You didn't even need the syrup since the caramel brioche was added. It tasted like a cinnamon bun! The bacon was extra crunchy and the pizza was also favorable. I highly recommend this place for brunch; however, I don't think this place does bottomless mimosas. Good food and good books how can you go wrong last 2 times in DC we have gone and have not been disappointed

I stopped for Happy hour and notice that it was also a bookstore, barbershop too. The service was great in the restaurant side but when I got to the bookstore and the staff wasn't as pleasant. But I was able to get two books and I will be back for food and more happy hour. I did purchase food for a guy outside and the guy who was helping me ensured that the guy would get his burger and fries. read more

Such a cute vibe and nice amount of variety on the menu. I went for brunch and got the orange cream soda, which was super refreshing and the french toast, which was also good and was a nice portion size as well. My only complaint is that the indoor seating area gets a bit hot. read more

Kramers is half book store, half restaurant & bar. If you want to relax at a bar that will give you the best Irish coffee while you cozy up to a new book, then this is the place! The food is good, but I would recommend not coming on a Sunday. Sundays are overcrowded and super busy so you won't get the best experience. I love this place! read more

Food poisoning twice! Can lightning strike twice? Apparently yes. First time I visited, ordered green salad. I became ill afterward but wasn't sure why. Second visit this week, I got the hummus bowl. I really enjoyed the food here! I got the crabcake pasta and it was seriously so good!!! I also got the mushrooms they had Parmesan and were cooked really well and so juicy and delicious! My friend got an octopus dish that I got to try and it was cooked to perfection. She also ordered the potatoes that I didn't try, but they looked really good. Our waiter was very friendly. I always have a wonderful time here! I stopped in most recently with a friend just to browse but was really drawn to a collection of translated short stories. When I went to check out, I learned that the man helping me check out had studied with that translator and had read many stories from the author of the book and was a big fan! He told me such wonderful things about the translator and this author, so I definitely think I made the right call getting the book, but that interaction made it so worth it even if I end up not loving the stories. This place is friendly, warm, colorful and has a great selection of food and coffee. Couldn't recommend more as a local bookstore! read more

It's been quite a few years since I visited the restaurant at Kramers (it was always very good), so this is a review just of the bookstore. On a recent visit, I was impressed with the breadth and depth of the books in stock. (Note, this is an independent new books bookstore - there are some fine used bookstores in the area, but that's a different review.) I asked a staff person about one I was interested in, and sure enough, they immediately pulled it from the shelf for me to take a look. This was a fairly obscure newly published book, or so I thought, so I was impressed that they had it, and that they were so efficient in locating it. Beyond that, perhaps most Yelpers don't know that Kramers has some historical significance. (I'm still waiting for DC to put up a historic marker or plaque in front of the store.) In the so-called Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, independent counsel Kenneth Starr sought to obtain a list of books purchased by Lewinsky at Kramers. Kramers fought that subpoena, seeking to protect the privacy rights of their customers. Lewinsky had purchased a copy of the Nicholson Baker novel, Vox, as a gift for Clinton. This place is a staple that I have loved for nearly twenty years. I used to love their salad with duck confit and I today happened to be in the area so looked forward to the treat. It was no longer on the schedule, but the menu looked delicious so I decided to stay. A young woman greeted me warmly and seated me. She gave me a menu and silverware. I lost track of time while looking over the menu and also fubbing on phone. When I looked up I saw staff working --cleaning tables and responding to patrons who were closing out. I assumed they were busy and understaffed. So, I waited my turn. Shortly afterwards an elderly white couple walked into the patio area. Aside from them, I was the only other customer there. The hostess gave them a menu and silverware and walked off. But then a waiter walked up to them immediately and gave them water. Right after that ANOTHER waitress walked out with two cups of water for the couple. She realized they had water and turned around to take the water way. I said "I would love some water." She walked away. I am not sure if she did not hear me. But also I was frustrated that neither she nor the man saw me. I felt invisible so I walked away, while she took the couples order. It has always had a 5 in my book. Today hopefully was an anomaly...but I felt compelled to share my story. This bookstore and restaurant is literally a staple...I kept a photograph of Kramerbooks (from the summer of 2005) over my many desks as I travelled the US on quest of PhD. Really cozy vibes inside and a great bookstore where time slows down and you can leisurely peruse the shelves. There's also a coffee bar so you can order a coffee and hang out. To the side is the restaurant and they were hosting a trivia night when I stopped by, which I thought was a really great touch. KramerBooks is a wonderful bookstore with a good selection and a fun place to browse for something new to read. We need more independent bookstores like this. I really want to like their restaurant - the concept of a cafe inside a bookstore is a good one - but they fall short on execution. This weekend I had a lobster roll which had too much celery and Mayo and not enough lobster; as a New englander I have high standards on lobster rolls and this was at best a 4 out of 10. The fries were under cooked too. The service is inattentive at Kramers unfortunately. In previous visits I did enjoy their desserts but didn't partake this time. read more

Went to lunch with a colleague and had an excellent Crab Cake Pasta. The service was good and the prices are reasonable for DC.

We had the best meal and experience at Kramers. Looking forward to a casual, easy place to plant ourselves while some rain moved through. We were able to sit outside under a canopy, drink good drinks and eat cozy, tasty food. We had deviled eggs to start which were also so delicious. We had a lovely brunch at Kramers. We arrived around 1:30pm and were seated immediately. We had brunch cocktails to begin. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which was a good sized portion and came with coleslaw. The chicken had a good breading, and the butter on the waffle had a nice seasoning. I also tried the cornbread pudding, which was decent, but not worth going out of your way to order. The chocolate pudding was divine and good for sharing. Service was fairly slow, and we had to flag down our waitress multiple times, including to get the bill. The restrooms are upstairs, but were clean. I didn't have a chance to browse the bookstore, but noticed it was fairly busy when we walked through it. It's always great to see folks actually frequenting a bookstore. It's been years since I was here, wanted to come with my daughter and an old out-of-town friend. We did make reservations, there were a few open tables on a pretty warm March Thursday evening around 6:30. Super friendly staff all around. We had a running joke about ordering dessert first which the server played along with. Teen girl is picky, pal is hard vegetarian. Kramers did great with the food. We had fried artichoke hearts, girl had chicken and waffles (destroyed it), friend had the veggie Cali Dagwood sandwich (enjoyed) and I had the butternut squash ravioli, really good and well presented. Dessert was fun too, goober pie and chocolate mousse (we joked about it being real moose). All was well. A neighborhood gem for decades. Bookstore + Brunch = perfect Sunday afternoon. Stopped into Kramer's this Sunday for brunch. It was a warm DC day so we sat outside. Our server was prompt and attentive. We ordered the chicken and waffles: new Orleans pasta; brussel sprouts; french 75 and cold brew (espresso) martini. The drinks were very good as we're the brussel sprouts as an appetizer. They came with this delicious cream sauce on top that put them over the edge. I had the chicken and waffles which was fantastic. I'm not a big fan of Belgian waffles but the texture and taste of this one really blew me away. I hate the crunchy Belgian waffles but this was soft and melted in my mouth. The chicken has a little spice kick to it with a honey butter that bled perfectly into the waffle. Only rated a 4 since the pasta wasn't as stellar. Sauce was a little thin and it could've been seasoned a bit better. Regardless we had a great time and will be back! read more

Came for brunch on a busy Easter Sunday afternoon with friends and my dog. Both the outdoor and indoor seating were packed but the wait time was surprisingly short (10 min) and service was super courteous and efficient throughout. Kramers is a very doggo-friendly place as many customers had doggos with them, all with their own water bowls. While my group and I waited for our table, a server brought my dog her own bowl of water, unprompted!! Honestly was so wow'd that I intend to return for the great service alone. We all ordered different items off the menu - I ordered the burger and while it wasn't anything fancy, it hit the spot. I particularly loved the slightly smokey flavor of the double beef patties. My friends' ham omelet, pork hash and fried chicken sandwich also looked solid. read more
