Delicious and fresh, tasted better than it looks.
Sara S.

A DC institution, I will always be a fan of Kramers. It's not the best restaurant, but it's a classic that I hope remains open for decades and decades to come. Service is great, prompt and professional, and some of the items are hit or miss, but there is a lot of light lunch fare to choose from and my salad was fresh. Make sure to stop in at the bookstore at the end of your meal.

Bookstore is always amazing with really interesting items and fantastic service. Cute cafe was good but left a lot to be desired. Sure, it's casual dining but maybe too casual. We went here for cherry blossom afternoon tea and honestly things looked a little dingy. We were next to a loud AC unit that felt it would drip on me. The food was fine but it seemed very pre-prepared and just plated. Sure, it's not Fortum and Mason afternoon tea but the waiter forgot about giving us plates. Or napkins. Etc. these are the basics. But they had good clotted cream so that's a win. I would recommend a quick renovation and updating staff with basic service checklists. Everyone was nice but it wasn't clear how to even get a table. There was no flow or order to the restaurant portion.

We had a great time after work at Kramers! It was a Wednesday so they have 50% off wine bottles, which is an amazing deal! We also tried their frozen cocktails, and they were delicious. I loved the Summer special lobster roll and we tried three of their pizzas, the chicken pesto, mushroom, the Hawaiian! Even though I'm not a huge fan of pineapple on my pizza, the Hawaiian impressed me actually with the balance of sweet and spicy! We sat on the back covered patio area, which was very airy and full of light! Browse some books, get a glass of wine and enjoy a slice

Afternoon tea was delightful! It's well-priced for what you get. It's not a ton of food so don't arrive too hungry! If you are still hungry, you can order off of the regular menu. The scones were our favorite part. The patio that tea is served on isn't air conditioned (or at least not well) so plan accordingly. Drinking hot tea on a summer day might not be everyone's *ahem* cup of tea (sorry had to say it). All in all, I'd go back!

Wings

Went here for lunch. I ordered the steak frites medium well. The steak was delicious. We also shared some deviled eggs and wings as a table of six overall the food was solid and at first I thought I would come back, however after we paid our $280 bill and we sat at the table for about 10-15 as we were waiting for our friend to use the bathroom , the server came overand said, "hey not to kick you out but we do need a the table, sorry ." I think the wording of the request and being rushed out quickly after paying felt a bit unprofessional and really took away from what could have been an enjoyable visit. We originally wanted to look at the bookstore after eating dinner, but we decided to leave.

Afternoon tea for 2

Love this gem of a bookstore and restaurant. Came here for afternoon tea with book club friends. The sandwiches weren't particularly great, I liked the egg sandwich, but the cream cheese is a bit much on the smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches. The deviled egg is also curried. The scones and accompanying lemon curd and clotted cream were surprisingly delightful (I usually hate scones). The macarons were okay -- I wasn't a big fan of the raspberry and coffee flavors that I got, I liked the peanut butter mousse cup, didn't like the key lime pie (the crust was a bit chewy and stale), but the sea salt caramel chocolate was good, too. They sat our group of 6 inside in this big table and it was extremely hot there. Wouldn't sit there again. The server kept getting our tea wrong, also wasn't particularly excited about the teas we had. Afternoon tea is only available on weekdays, but I think it's worth it to take off early one day to come, especially at the price point.

We walked past this cute bookstore after dinner and I was quickly intrigued. I loved how bright it was and it allowed us to extend our night out. I went in and was able to browse freely. It was too late for cafe and we had already had food, so we didn't try it. I had been wanting to buy a book from a YouTube creator that wasn't easily accessible in my hometown and when I asked the attendees, they had it! It was the perfect souvenir and I was happy I shopped local.

I have always had a joyful time visiting Kramers for brunch, so I am excited to write a review for lunch :) The food is delicious, cooked well, and fresh. Service was smooth and easy, the service person answered all our questions well. I enjoyed sitting outdoors as I completed some work alongside my delicious meal. My partner and I enjoyed exploring the spacious, well-stocked bookstore inside the cafe. We will be back again soon!

Interior decoration (Christmas)

We had the afternoon tea tower for two and it was lovely! Kramer's itself is such a cute bookstore/cafe/restaurant, and they offer afternoon tea from 2pm-5pm Monday through Friday. We went the day after Thanksgiving so it was really busy and our waiter only came to take our order and give us the check. We didn't realize until the end that you can get more hot water for your tea pot (the tea you select is infusing within), so definitely take advantage of that. Overall, a super fun afternoon tea experience at a reasonable cost!

Cappuccino

Went on a random weekday to grab breakfast and the food was delicious. It was the usual American breakfast, sausage, scrambled eggs and potatoes. It hit the spot and my tummy was happy. Topped it off with a cappuccino. Service was solid.

It was very busy in the weekend so make sure you reserve a table but otherwise I really enjoyed my food and after you're done eating go browse the books of course!

Ask the Community - Kramers

Are dogs allowed for dining on the patio?

Yes they are.

Is a reservation needed for the Cafe, or would I be able to easily get a table for two? I am considering going for brunch or dinner.

We tend to get fairly busy during the weekend for brunch and dinner so a reservation is a good idea. You can call the cafe directly - 202-387-3825

Is there a reasonable parking spot nearby?

As mentioned, they only have metered street parking directly around them. You can sometimes find spaces on the side streets in the neighborhoods. These tend to be restricted to one or two hours until later on in the evening. But that will be hit…

Of course it even had that classic book smell. My favorite. There is an upstairs and a downstairs. It can be a little tight depending on the amount of customers inside. There is a wide range o books. Of course there is a lot of political themed books, its the area we are in. I was lucky to find Kamala Harris's book, "107 Days." Pricing was what I expected and supporting a local book store than the large box store down the street was where my heart was at. The books were well organized, and everything was nicely categorized. There was one employee working. They were not super engaging, but I chalk that up to library atmosphere. But, whenever they were asked a questions they were helpful. There is a lot of local advertising and they are supportive of the LGBTQ population.

There's a nice YA section with a sizable manga inventory. My son was so taken with manga, filling sketch books with manga-inspired drawings for years. They converted an old historical building into a large bookstore. As soon as you enter the store you feel the classic renovation and great vibes. Other Barnes and Noble have the same regular retail feel but this location has a vintage originality that you don't find anywhere else. There were three floors filled with books of varying types. It was surprisingly filled with college kids and tourists who were in the area. I was like a kid in the candy store. I went from browsing nonfiction to graphic novels to self-help books. I was able to find a seat and spend my evening going through a good classic self-help book. The only downside was that it was almost nine and the store was closing. I had to head down and make my way out. I wished I had a longer stay in DC to come back here. Most of the Barnes and Noble stores in my area were closing down so it was great to experience a classic bookstore again.

Your prices are typical school bookstore expensive, but nothing exorbitant. T shirts with Georgetown emblems were around $18 and sweatshirts around $60. I was surprised to find a "Grumpy cat" stuffed animal with a Georgetown tshirt on, as well as Boo, cutest dog in the world in similar attire. The books/textbooks are upstairs, clothing and computers are downstairs. They have numerous employees wandering the store asking if you need any help. I asked one for a medium sweatshirt size and she promptly went to the back and retrieved the right fit for me. They also have a great selection of birthday cards, snacks, baby accessories, and general school supplies.
