If you're serious about cycling I would recommend skipping. We walked in with a budget of $5000, my husband and I got about 4 minutes of attention from the sales rep, he didn't really ask us what we had been looking at, he just recommended one bike then offered us a test ride. I think he was trying to get rid of stock. After my husband did the ride, I scanned the QR code on the bike and then looked at the specs so I could keep it for our records. The sales rep then was extremely pushy asking if we wanted to buy the bike with about 5 minutes of attention, he didnt give us the opportunity to ask questions about the bike. He said he only had 1 left in stock so we should make a decision asap, as I scanned the QR code I could actually see the inventory by adding to my cart. I could add 10 to my cart before I got the "lack of inventory" error. So he was definitely trying to push this bike. Now we've shopped around and done our research smaller bike stores are definitely where you should go. They genuinely care about you more, ask you to questions about your riding experiences and do not push you to a sell at all, they know buying the right bike is an investment that shouldn't be rushed. If you're buying a bike in the $200-1400 range this would be a great spot but not for specialitst bikes! read more

I recently brought my old Myata bike that my father gave to me over 30 years ago to Kozy's to fix what was wrong, old or just plain broken ! The people that work at Kozy's are the real deal! They always have the answer when you need an expert. They took my request. Wrote up a ticket and we agreed on a timetable and price. I received a call a week later from a senior manager making sure I wanted to spend this amount of money on this bike. I assured him that I was restoring a cherished item and I was not concerned with cost. He said ok let's do it! Kozy's couldn't have just did what I asked and collected the money (which I knew was crazy for that bike but it was my dad ! I love that they were looking out for me over their profits! The sweetest guys in the front and absolutely horrible customer service at mechanic's. Initially came in for a flat tire repair and a general seasonal check, got attitude and a lot of unnecessary commentary about how cheap my bike was and how crappy, along with suggestions that I'd be better off buying something else. Sure, my bike is nothing fancy, but it serves my needs, and still requires occasional maintenance like any other. The remarks were totally unprofessional, rude and completely out of place. The lady who witnessed the conversation while waiting was in complete shock too, just like me. Sad to be judged at a place where you're supposed to be getting help for your money. Left in complete resentment, and while the service was reasonably priced, I won't be coming back and definitely won't be recommending this shop to anyone I know. read more

when to replace tire and after 1 hour of being replaced it popped and the workers are childish

I went to cozy's to buy a pair of armadillo tires and to have them fitted to my bicycle rim so that I could later assemble it at home. I've been to cozy's once before and I received amazing service so I trusted them to uphold that same level of professionalism. When I walked in, my girlfriend and I were greeted with nothing but a look from both employees in the front before they completely ignored us. I asked the person at the desk where I could receive help from someone and all I got was a finger point to the back of the store. After asking another employee that was standing in the back, I finally found the person who would help me. I told him my issue and he said he'd take care of it. I left my name and number for them to call me when they were finished and I went to another store in the meantime. I never received a call. When I came back to the store and retrieved my bike I had to ask if he was done because he just stared at me without telling me anything. The clerk at the desk was incredibly rude and their exact dialogue was only saying my total and then "have a good day" no thank you, no other words in between that. And then when I got home one of the tires won't even hold air. No one wants to pull the race card so easily but I can't imagine they treat every customer that way. Im in the process of getting my bicycle tuned up for the winter. I have only been a member and customer for about two years. Only using the service shop about 2-3 times in the time frame. And most of my experiences are smooth. However, while waiting to get my bicycle tuned up i realized that I would have to wait about two weeks maybe more for some parts to come through. So I figured I ask , about loaner bicycle since I use my bicycle as a form of sustainable transportation. I was told no at first, then I stressed more on the issue and got some wiggle on it. Another thing I realized just like another customer left in the comments "Customer Service" this part of professionalism is the reason I dont come as much I wish it was better from Greetings to support. If this is one of the few already lacking bicycle shop service provided in the city of chicago we need shops that curtail to community needs bc cycling is very diverse in Chicago and we are all aware of the lack of bicycle repair shops on the south side. I brought my bike to the service center here after a small mishap. The technician measured it with something and told me it was a total loss and that I should just buy a new bike. When the salesperson told me their cheapest bike was $600 I exclaimed with an incredulous expletive and promptly left. Shortly after, my uncle looked at my bike, spent about 15 minutes with a single wrench and fixed my bike as if nothing ever happened to it! The people at this place are just looking to sell overpriced bikes. I will never trust them again. And will never spend a dime here. It really is a shame too because they're close to my work and I often spend money on accessories and maintenance to my bike for convenience sake, so their money grubbing ways lost what could have been a good repeat customer. I stopped into Kozy's Cyclery yesterday for a bit of assistance. I had something I needed inflated and figured they had air and maybe they could help. I called ahead to see if this kind of thing was allowed and the guy on the phone told me to come on in. I was worried they might be irritated since I wasn't looking to buy anything. He laughed and said he did not mind at all. There is easy street parking so I was able to park right in front. I walked in and two guys were casually sitting in chairs - kind of looked like they could have been sitting at a campfire. They called out a big hello and welcomed me in. I told them what I needed and one gentleman hopped right up and got started. I told him my son has vintage bicycles and would suggest he come by to check out their store. They offer a ton of services and have a lot of inventory. I thanked him profusely and he was gracious all the way. A true professional with a warm spirit. I had a great impression of this store. I needed to have the stem and front brake system adjusted on my bike that was shipped from the East Coast. I was greeted immediately upon arrival at the store and directed to the bicycle repair/workshop area! I was promptly waited on and given a receipt. I was told that my bicycle would be ready that day which is excellent service. I also inquired about taking my bicycle on the bus and the logistics about how to do it. The repair clerk Ivan suggested watching a video on-line about how to use the bicycle rack on the CTA web site (very helpful and good idea! Thanks!) Aside from the bicycle repair area there is an extensive variety of childrens, adolescent and adult bicycles for sale, helmets, socks and bicycle apparel, gatorate, sports snacks, mounting units, bicycle baskets, etc. Really great selection of goods! WHAT I LOVED-this is a family run business that has been in Chicago since the 1940s and everyone in the store-including the head manager makes sure that each patron is greeted and professionally attended to. read more

I used to think that spinning shoes were just an unnecessary way for the fitness industry to make money. I've been spinning for years and my regular running shoes work just fine. However, I've been looking around the dozens and dozens of people packed into my spinning class and realized i"m the only fool without a pair of spinning shoes. I should probably note that this spinning class takes place in the oh so fancy East Bank Club where everyone in the class is also clad in Lululemon (an yes, this includes me). Probably not the best place to decide spinning shoes are a necessity, but I decided to get myself a pair anyway. And where does one get spinning shoes? A bike store...duh. Walking into Kozy's Cyclery almost made me want to buy a bike to roam the streets of Chicago for the rest of summer, but then I remembered a traumatic bike riding trip a few years ago in San Francisco (I may be the only person who 'forgot" how to ride a bike) and decided to stick with the stationary bikes. They had a few different options of spinning shoes and I had 2 different sales people help me during the 20 min I spent in the store. Each guy told me a different shoe was best for spinning, which made me question how much they knew about spinning shoes, but then again perhaps it's all about preference. It took them a bit to find spinning shoes that fit my big ass feet, but they did find my size (apparently the 9s and 10s were mixed together creating a bit of shoe chaos). Then they put some sort of clips or something i needed on the bottom for me and I was outta there....about $200 poorer, but I had spinning shoes! I've spun with the shoes once so far and have to admit that I do noticed a bit of a difference...the ride is much smoother! I had a bit of a problem with getting off the bike (couldn't get the shoes to unclip), but guess that's what the teacher is there for. read more

Went in to replace my tires and received a nice lecture on how oxygen molecules were smaller, hence air leaking out. The shop guy filled up my tires and sent me out the door. I rode to Ohio Street Beach, stayed for an hour and half. I went to leave and found my back tire completely flat. Then I walked to the 3rd Coast Cycles on the lake trail and got new tires. The back tire was shredded by the time I got there and both were well worn anyways. Thanks for the mansplaining and extra walk. Skip this store for better customer service elsewhere. read more

I had to share my bad experience with this bike shop. I had a flat tire fix for $22 last week. Only had one ride and this morning the same tire was flat again. They charged me $22 again. I doubt my tire would get flat from 1 ride. Someone didn't do their job well at this shop. While I was there picking the bike another customer came in with the same issue. She had her tire fixed at Kozys last Sunday and it was flat again. Not only customer service here is unfriendly, but they also don't do their job well. read more

I am in town for four months and bright my bike. Called several places to get a tune up and most wanted $100 (no issue there) but were booked for weeks. I called Kozys and they said they were about a week out but if I came by they would see what they could do. Scott took care of me, looked at my bike, trued a wheel, adjusted everything, tightened the hub and gave it the once over. Took about twenty minutes and cost me $22. I'll never go anywhere else. While I waited I looked around the shop which is excellent. Great service great people highly highly recommend. Bummed I can only give five stars. read more

I went to the shop on Halsted and they could not have been more helpful. They adjusted my bike seat (for a bike I did not buy there), no questions asked. I then inquired about getting cheap lock for short trips because my new bike didn't have a clip for mounting my Kryptonite -- I didn't ask about getting one of those becuase another bike shop told me I'd have to leave my bike all day to install one -- and they immediately offered to put one on within 10 minutes (I don't think it took even that long). They answered other questions as well. It's not the closest shop to me but I plan to support it in the future when I have bike needs. read more

He tried to convince me their only use was butt sweat (not relieving pressure points or minimizing vibrations- apparently those uses are incidental). Five stars for two decades of great service from various Kozy's locations. I bought a bike from the Halsted location, have had others serviced by the one in the South Loop, and came back to buy again yesterday. Between Kozy's the well-known store on Wells in Old Town, give me Kozy's every time. This weekend a great Black Friday sale brought me into the River North store and across multiple days, I received friendly, helpful service from both guys who assisted me. First John, then Bryan. Both were attentive without giving me the feeling of being pressured, a huge plus in this process. I ride every day and generally know what I want in a bike and from there they answered my questions without the condescension you sometimes experience elsewhere. Top notch all around. read more

If this was 4 years ago this rating would be different, I've bought and have purchased a couple bikes here as well as serviced and always have been treated well. Yesterday I called I got a flat on my Rad Rover E-Bike bring it in we got you covered. I bring my bike in and speak with the gentleman about putting a kid carrying trailer on the back and mounting 2 new tires as well as fixing my flat. The gentleman I spoke with said no problem after examining my bike just wait in the service center, they will get to you next. When the gentleman asked if I was being helped and I explained I was waiting to have a tube replaced as well as a few other things and I could leave the bike because I realized it was 4:15. He said we don't sell that brand we don't work on it. I informed him I have bought a couple custom bikes done there and, in the past, mentioned I was going to get this and if I did would they be able to put it together for me or help? I was told we can work on anything of course you can. Then I was remembering last summer when I stopped by for air and met with another customer who was leaving the store with his Super 73 E-bike showing me all the add Ons he added like I wanted done on mine. I'm confused as to why I'm singled out and hoping me being a Caucasian isn't playing a role in this. When you call first explain in depth on the phone and while you are there and then being told different after the fact. It leads me to wonder. Extremely feeling singled out and led astray. read more

Totally awesome cycle shop!! I was ready to head out for a ride and I wanted to air up the tires in my apartment bike room. The pump was out of whack and flattened my tire instantaneously. I was super bummed about postponing my ride, but I drove down to Kozy's with my bike and was expecting to have to buy a new tube or something. Syd helped me and showed me that I had actually just aired up the tire wrong and that everything was fine on my set up. He even put another bar-end plug on my handlebars, which I didn't even notice I was missing! I'm glad I actually learned from the experience and had someone so knowledgable helping me. For weeks I was looking into Vespas and other motorbikes because I didn't want the expense of a car.My research showed I would have registration and insurance to pay for and discovered it would be just like having a car. My niece suggested an ebike. I called Kozys and Sam encouraged me to come down and test the different models.I get there at 4:45 and see the sign says they close at 5. I feel terrible. BUT no one said a word about it. They took me through the selection. I tested out a couple. The team there was so nice and attentive and knowledgeable. I was impressed. Consistently fantastic customer experience. I'm very new to cycling and had a lot of questions. For a non-cyclist, it can be quite intimidating to walk into a cycling shop. However, the staff (specifically, Jon, Gary, Ivan, Brian and Fil) are just superb; extremely experienced and knowledgeable. Most of all, they explain things so clearly, free of the technical jargon which I've encountered in other stores. I bought a groupon for a bike tune up and it was a really great tune up! My gears shift normally again, my tires are full of air, the chain doesn't make as much noise as before (but it still makes a little bit of noise). I was offered and accepted a $100 purchase for 3 tune-ups and unlimited flat tire repair good for 3 years. With the many locations, I'm sure it'll be easy to use. I also bought new grips that were desperately needed, only not the best but only $9 and they put them on pretty quickly! I'm definitely grateful for the quality service, low prices, convenient locations and friendly staff. read more

This shop so consistently saves my bacon. I'm perpetually wandering in with a basic emergency repair on my way home from work in the Loop and they get be right back rolling again, with no fuss, no mansplaining (the techs in the shop were female last time I was there) and with kind words, even though repair is often not a profit driver for stores like these. Last time, I was here with a flat and my 6yo on our way to ice skating and they took good care of us and were friendly to her as well. If you're in the Loop, need snacks, want to look at new wheels or need bike gear, this is a great shop to do that, and if you need a repair, they'll be happy to help with that too. read more

I am so grateful to Kozy's Cyclery! I came in to refurbish an older bicycle that was gifted to me by a friend. The shop did a great job bringing it back up to *speed* but it was still too big for me. After a lot of discussion and help from the staff, especially Syd, I was able to pick a beautiful (and better fitting!) Cannondale CAAD12. I have come in many times for small fixes and the staff is always warm and welcoming. I am also fairly new to cycling and everyone in the shop is helpful and willing to educate me on the important and cool aspects of my new CAAD12. Two big reasons they only get a 3 star: 1.) they've been my go to bike repair shop for years and every time they did a fine job. So thumbs up. 2.) big time thumbs down- I went to get a tire repaired and after they fixed it that day it leaked out. So I called immediately and when I took the bike back in they said it wasn't their fault and wouldn't repair it and wouldn't refund me. I didn't even hit a bump that day so I know it wasn't just from usage. Anyway they tried to charge me the full amount of $25 to repair it again. So I went to a different place to get the tire repaired and they fixed it for only $10 and it's been perfect. The place is little further away for me but the service was amazing and the services were much cheaper. So I'll be going there from now on but it's been real. read more

My tube finally gave out, as did the tire a few days ago. Sucked as I was really looking forward to taking a long ride on the lake front. Walked it to the first place to pop up on my Yelp Ap. (Notice the name drop, Elite '13 Plz!) Really glad this place came up within walking distance. Carried my bike in, and was told to take it to the back. Had a new tire and tube on in under 20 min for less than $30. Maybe I could have paid $20 somewhere else, but I didn't care as I was taken care of so quickly. In fact I could have been out 5 minutes quicker if I could of been check out more quickly. Appeared to have tons of equipment in the store, and I noticed someone who had sent a custom part there for delivery. So it sounds like they have it all? read more

Naturally, on the one rare day when I don't bring my bike tools with my bag to work, I get a loose spoke. Nothing irritates me more than hearing the rattle of a loosening spoke as your riding down the street - well, maybe that creaking sound coming from around my bottom bracket. I decided to head over to Kozy's on my lunch break to kill 2 birds with one stone; hoping to rid my bike of a loose spoke and ready to pick up a tube of bike grease. Instead, I walked out disappointed, and well determined not to let Kozy's ever have my business again. Upon arriving to the service desk, I came to an employee fiddling with a wheel truing stand. He did not greet me, but rather looked at me until I spoke first - really great customer service. I proceeded to ask him if he would lend me a spoke wrench to tighten one loose spoke on my wheel, and he replied with a long stare followed by a simple "no". Incredulously, I asked if he was serious and his reply was a simple "yes". I get why you'd want to sell your repair service rather than give customers tools to fix their bikes themselves, but this was ONE SPOKE. It literally would have taken 3-5 seconds. Sir, you would have been helping out a fellow Chicago cyclist, AND had you helped me, you would have been making a sale as well - too bad. I've never known a bike shop to be less friendly than this one. Forget me buying grease or any other product from you or this store ever again. You've lost a customer forever. What a shame! read more
