House Salad with Fried Chicken
Jeff C.

I've been going to this place ever since they were on Harrison Ave. Always fast, friendly service with amazing hot plates and poboys... well today I decided to try a salad, and I was not disappointed!

Great poboys and fried chicken here for lunch today! My report: https://blainerestaurantreport.wordpress.com/2026/04/11/kozs-harahan-la-report-997/

Shrimp with gumbo and banana pudding

We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. Right away the owner embraced as family! This down home place is just what you would expect from Louisiana. We ordered shrimp with sides the most amazing gumbo and bread pudding, a kid's Red beans and sausage with sweet cornbread that rocked!, and a huge shrimp po-boy. The food was over the moon good and everyone was so friendly. Most of the folks there were regulars and we made friends so easily. We will be back.

The Chamber of Horrors is my absolute favorite sandwich ever! It's just a cold sandwich stacked with sliced meats and cheese and lettuce, tomato, etc. but it strikes a chord with me. Every time I go I tell myself to try something different but most times I wind up getting one. And a side of fries. I have tried other things and have never found anything to complain about. Koz's is a great example of the neighborhood restaurants that are scattered throughout New Orleans and the area. Place has been there forever. The family is running the business. He has passed away, but Koz himself was running the cash register every time I went there. Same crowd of regulars and locals is in there every day. A wide variety of menu items, daily specials, plate lunches, po-boys, fried seafood, and all that. Not all of it is good, but for the most part it is. Downsides - the place is old so it is a little dark and dingy. It gets crowded at times and then the service gets slow. The parking is scarce around but you can usually find a spot. Give them a shot. This is one place that I keep going back to. (If I want a Chamber of Horrors I do!)

Shrimp ettoufee with grilled catfish. Cabbage on the side & a shrimp poboy

It's a very homey-type mom & pop place. Mr. Koz himself was at the register checking people out. Very friendly guy. It was busy for a Friday evening but the wait wasn't long for hot food. The food was an 8.5/10 minus the sweet cabbage. I didn't really eat that. The ettoufee was standard & good. Rice was nicely cooked & grilled catfish was a hit. The shrimp poboy with the seasoned fries was a solid 9/10. Very enjoyable! Very nice experience

You have to stand in line to pick up your to-go order. Should be separated. Food is good, but not great.

Another 5 Star review, two in one day...man have gotten soft or just had a couple really good…read moreexperiences? No, just good experiences!! In town for work and found this on Yelp, love that! Took an uber here since I wanted to have a few cocktails and it was really the food that sold it for me, had a glass of wine since it became all about the food once we sat down! I will start by saying we had the best server I have had in a very long time! She was a great salesperson, knew the menu and what to recommend and the kitchen did not disappoint from what she was telling us! This was such a find. Small little family place, great food, great service and then more great food with more great service! We started with the Crawfish Boudin...delicious!! Followed those up with some grilled oysters with crab meat and cheese....I was getting full so did a 1/2 oyster po-boy which was huge, delicious and huge! some Hush-puppies thrown in, some wine...man...everything was amazing! Highly recommended and of all the places I have eaten in New Orleans this is one that I will definitely be back too! KT

We had ten people at lunch and the whole experience was wonderful. Zero complaints.(!) They were able to seat us all together in a separate room. The service was great despite the large party. Our waitress was organized and efficient. Glasses never got empty and she kept the meal well paced and moving. She was very friendly and answered all our questions. At the close of the meal, she offered to divide the bill up into separate checks(!). I think there were about five checks total for the entire group. The food was very good. I had a daily special which was BBQ shrimp & Jambalaya Grits. If you wonder what Jambalaya Grits are, think "jambalaya with grits instead of rice". It came with a little side salad that was cold and fresh. Onion rings and firecracker shrimp appetizers were tasty and very nicely done. Anecdote: coworker says that all the locals call this place "Charlie's" even though it is actually "Charles Seafood" like it says. Whatever you want to call it, I call it great. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

I feel like waiters that get gratuity feel as though they don't have to work because they have already gotten my tip. Also they charge you $15 if you bring a cake into their establishment. Also I DID not like how they treated a group of "black" young men that came into the restaurant. The food was absolutely disgusting.i hate swai fish. And if your restaurant isn't serving "REAL" catfish at least advertise that on your menu. The fries were hard and overcooked. The egg rolls were semi decent. Definitely would not recommend this place of business
