Usually opt for drive thru but first time dining in since the drive thru was insane per usual and I really wanted ice cream it was so hot lol. As busy as the drive thru was, the workers were banging out orders quick! Not sure why I never realized they make plate lunches but they look so good. Love that their prices are pretty reasonable too. Opted to share a banana royale and slush float, they only had melon at the time and some fries. Fries were literally fried to perfection. Kozmic Cones has always been a must go to when in Hilo! Our very own local Dairy Queen.

Drive through line didn't take that long and service is nice. A little outdated the place but I know to refurbishing is expensive. The food did taste good but that presentation doesn't quite look that delicious. I wasn't expecting the chicken katsu to look like that and that's why my review was a 3 star.

A classic little dine-in shop with plenty of comfort food! I came here to try their chili dogs and slush floats, and I really loved their Blue Vanilla Slush Float! Really good portion/prices too, I'll definitely re-visit in the future! - Miguel Morales Photography

My husband said that the burger and the sundae were really good! I got the beef stew plate which was pretty good if you like more potato. The beef was really tender though. The mac salad was pretty good too. We went through the drive through and were surprised that the line moved pretty quickly. It brought us back to the old days, gave us that vibe anyway!

After a day full of hiking and much adventure, my friends and I wanted to top it off with a sweet treat. We decided upon Kozmic Cones after seeing the photos Mac-nut rolled soft-serve cones. To our surprise, we found that this spot also doubled as a fast food joint as well. To compliment the sweetness of our ice cream cones, each of us got an order of fries, the perfect vessel for scooping ice cream into the mouth. Wow oh WOW were we surprised at how delicious the fries were!! So delicious, in fact, that we visited again the next evening just to order another round of fries! The mac-nut rolled ice cream was also tasty. Just the kind of sweet treat one would want after a long day of hiking and sight seeing. Overall, Kozmic Cones hit the spot! Great place to visit in the later hours of the day and if you're looking for something that won't dent the wallet and will satisfy your palate!

Not sure if I was blasted off to another planet with their "nutty cone" but it was barely passable. The nutty cone is a standard vanilla cone $4.55 which was covered in... you guessed it... macadamia nuts. There are two options- small and large so we chose a large since we were sharing it. The cone was stale. I hate stale cones. You get to the end and you are looking forward to eating it and blah blah blah. Staff ignored us in the walk-up line for a few minutes. They were a bit busy with the drive thru line. What can I say, not the best that the island has to offer but we wanted dessert and it was open until 7 pm. Blast off to another place instead of this one.

I can't eat ice cream because my gallstones might act up, but I do know ice cream. Kozmic Cones serves soft serve ice cream (and lots of food...not much of it vegetarian), and Patty was hankering to try it. She opted for the mac nut (see picture). Patty said it was delicious. Definitely worth the drive-thru wait. She did agree with other reviewers that the cake cone seemed stale. I took a bite of it. I don't think stale is the right word. In my experience, there are two types of cake cones: crispy and papery. Kozmic serves the papery kind...the kind that won't lacerate the roof of your mouth.

Beautiful servings! About $6 for a cone. Huge servings!! A Hilo staple. Go check it out!

    Banana split

I order a banana split and I was disappointed because never have whip cream on it and the ice cream was super ice cold and hard in the middle as if it was poured in the container and freezed over night. Maybe the day before leftovers? Not sure. Just the fact never have whipped cream on it and the amount it cost....I had to give it 2 stars

We got 3 large cones with sprinkles. They were exactly what we wanted. Place is a little worn down but that didn't bother us.

I LOVE THE NUTTY CONES. I seriously wish I was back in Hawaii eating a nutty cone. I also tried the chicken Katsu and it was really good.

I planned for my husband and I to grab a quick bite at Cafe 100 before leaving Hilo. With more than…read more2000 reviews on Google and 30 varieties of loco moco, it was hard to ignore. Cafe 100 is a casual, local spot with window (staff) or kiosk (automated) ordering and plenty of semi-outdoor seating (i.e., you are technically inside and covered, but you can still feel the heat from outside). I will admit the menu felt a bit overwhelming at first glance because there are so many options available, but we visited on a weekday when it was not busy, so we were able to take our time deciding. Anticipating larger portions, we decided to share a mixed type loco moco plate along with a drink. That turned out to be a great call, as the portion was more than enough for the two of us, especially since we would not easily be able to take leftovers with us. This is casual, familiar comfort food done well. No complaints here, and I have already recommended Cafe 100 to a few friends :)

As a born-and-raised local, rice, gravy, and eggs will win me over every time, and I really wanted to love this place for the history alone. I'll be honest though -- the hype set the bar high, and I left a little let down. The regular loco moco was just okay. The hamburger patty tasted pre-made or frozen, though the gravy was solid (thank goodness). The beef stew also tasted pre-made and was lighter on the tomato flavor than I prefer. I ordered the steak as well (around $30), and it came out very well done. On the positive side, they offer a ton of plate lunch options, the space is extremely well kept for a local diner, and there's plenty of parking. It's covered outdoor seating only, but it's comfortable and clean. What surprised me most was the lack of visible history. I expected to see more storytelling about the loco moco origins -- photos, signage, staff sharing pride in it -- something that really leaned into that legacy. It felt a little missing. Still glad I tried it for the experience, but for me, it didn't quite live up to the legendary reputation.

When we arrived, we were seated promptly. The noise level was decently low, even with live music, and we were so happy for that. Here lately, every place we have gone has been sooo loud to where we couldn't have a conversation, so this was a nice touch. Our waitress came to grab our orders promptly and brought our drinks quickly. We decided on mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, a pesto burger no tomato with a garden patty, and another garden burger plain and dry, both with fries. Food came out decently swiftly, and everything looked amazing! The fries were piping hot and absolutely wonderful: perfectly crispy, not greasy, with flavor and perfect seasoning. The pesto burger was soo good. The pesto itself had a great flavor without being overbearing or oily. I loved the slice of fresh mozzarella. The burger itself was cooked perfectly, and the bread was nice and toasty without being hard. The mozzarella sticks were fantastic, not greasy at all, and were decently sized. I really liked the marinara it came with, which it was flavorful without being overbearing and the only thing we could taste. I assume the garden burger was equally enjoyed, for there was no conversation coming from that side of the table. Oh, and he stole the rest of my fries. Thief!! This was a great decision. The interior screams dive bar in an interesting way, but that food? Definitely not greasy spoon or quickly thrown together dive bar appetizers, that's for sure! We will definitely come back!
