Careless and Reckless I am a neighbor to a house where Kottman did work on Feb 3, 2020. The owner, Don was cutting down the tree and the tree which was 20 feet away collided onto my fence. He reassured me it would be taken care of, but I have my doubts because of our communication post the incident. I also live in an area where we have a shared alley, and all the neighbors use the alley. The Kottman Tree Service vehicles occupied the alley so no one could get in and out. My daughter, 6, was shooting hoops in the alley with me when the owner told me about the incident. He also informed me that he would be moving some of the equipment in the near future. I said "Let me know before you move any equipment, we'll get out of the way." 30 seconds later, I ran to get a ball in the street, and i hear my daughter screaming. I left for 3 seconds and I run back to see her laying down on the concrete of the alley..the owner started backing down the alley with his truck and trailer towards my daughter and it freaked her out. His trailer was 5- 10 feet away when i ran up screaming and shouting. This guy seriously needs to slow down and pay attention, something i think would be very valuable in his profession. I called him on all of this stuff and he threatened a lawsuit against me. I would avoid this business at all cost...not worth carelessness and recklessness coming on your property. read more

Great bunch of guys who know there stuff and are very quick!! Don Kottman and his crew came out on short notice and took down a tree that was hanging over my new pool and deck. They did it with precision of a surgeon! At a great price! Not sure about all the other reviews that were not tree related and they are just one side of the story but these guys are very courteous. I highly recommend for any tree removal needs! I found out about these guys from watching them take a huge tree down from my neighbors yard. These guys are good!! read more

The owner, in his beat up P.O.S. Work Truck, cuts me off as he crosses a solid white line so I Honk at him. I had to slam on my brakes so I didn't hit him. He then stops on Mid Rivers overpass and proceeds to cuss me out, calling me an MFer, etc. 10cars (no crap) were lined up, trying to get on the highway. We were all honking and he is just smiling as he keeps flipping me off. This guy has major road rage and anger issues. You'd be stupid to let them work for you. read more

A small tree that was dying was blown over during a recent storm in the area. I contacted Kottman's (based on a recommendation) to have the tree removed from in front of my house. Someone finally came out and gave me a quote. I accepted the quote and we scheduled the removal for the next day. That day came and went. No Kottman's. I got a call that night with an explanation that Don couldn't get to my tree due to an "unexpected funeral". We rescheduled for the next day. That day also came and went and Kottman's was a no show again. No call with any explanation this time. As a 65-year-old black woman I guess I should be used to this type of dismissive treatment from white businesses, but it is unacceptable and I've notified my wide network of friends and neighbors with trees not to use Kottman's. Ultimately I called another service-this time a minority-owned company. The owner and crew came out the next day. They were courteous, professional, and expedient. They actually removed the tree that same morning in about five minutes at one-third the cost that Kottman's was charging. Very telling. read more

Don really knows his stuff & helped me out of a bad situation that I was in due to another tree company starting a job for me that never came back, after I had already paid them half the money upfront to start the job. Don finished the job for me and only charged me half the cost because he looks out for senior citizens and was upset that someone took advantage of me. He completed the job and it looks great. We hired Kottman tree service to remove a tree in our backyard, I was told it would take 2 days to remove. Kottman tree service should up for the first time on 7/29/16 late in the afternoon and only worked 3 hours which included a break for supper, they stated they would be back the following day to continue the work. However, only one crew member returned the next morning to pick up the saws & ropes, no work was done on the tree that day and no future date of them returning was given. This began a over 2 month effort to have the job completed. We called daily asking when he would return and most of the calls went unanswered or multiple excuses where given such as he had a "unexpected funeral", he lost his phone and briefcase with all his bid information in it along with his truck windows busted out. At one point in the job they left the wood chipper in my neighbor's driveway (without her permission) for 2 days because the keys were lost. His lack of communication and his disorganization makes it a very difficulty company to work with. Thankfully the job was completed on 10/3/16 but I would not recommend this company. read more
