Regarding when I was visiting my elderly dad: Went through the whole process of getting an…read moreestimate, scheduling the work, then the guy shows up for the work and says, 'sorry, can't be done for the $3,000 we quoted you (see attached for written estimate), it's now $10,000. He tried to get a hold of his boss, but he was in a meeting. Next day we call them and he said, 'we'll do another estimate' - so then another guy comes over, and he quoted $5,400 for half the work (2 trees versus 5) -- arguably more expensive than the $10,000 quote. Seriously? I need these trees dealt with before they cause a bigger issue (one was struck by lightning and already had a branch fall off). Well, they said they had some guy who was giving incorrect estimates that no longer works for the company. Does that sound like a reasonable story? A guy you employed was giving estimates, you were scheduling the jobs, and then, what? You fired him because you realized you can charge double to seniors in need of urgent work? By the way, we had another company that did more work for $3,400 -- arguably cheaper than your original "incorrect" quote. I guess legally you have the right to refuse to honor an estimate (although if one of your customers cancels you charge a 10% penalty - isn't that ironic?), and there was no bad outcome here (thankfully) other than a massive waste of our time. But frankly, there is dubious trustworthiness here... Related to which, why does your estimate form say you have a 5.0 Yelp rating when the actual rating is 4.3?

When I telephoned the tree service a couple months ago, the first thing I asked if the owner was a…read moreCertified Arborist, and he confirmed yes. He came to the house to give an estimate, primarily to get rid of the dead limbs in about 10 trees, and to trim an elm tree so that the branches were not hanging onto the deck. Instead of the arborist coming to the house to oversee about 7 manual laborers, he sent his brother, who was not certified. When it was time for the elm to be trimmed, a laborer, while on the deck, cut back the elm with no management from the certified arborist. The laborer tortured the tree, and it is now an embarrassment to us. A couple limbs thereafter died, and the company did not do a decent job getting rid of the existing dead limbs. We stewed on this horrible job, all this time. The arborist should have been present, and now, every time we go onto our deck, we seethe over the poor job. When we call to ask for a certified arborist, we expect him to be on the job.

I was impressed with how quickly he was able to come out and take a look at the trees in our yard, and he even had his team scheduled to come out within a week to handle the trimming and cleanup. Alex sent over an estimate the same day he came by, and it felt like a fair price for the amount of work we needed. We weren't looking to remove any full trees, just wanted branches trimmed back between our yard and the neighbors', plus some cleanup in the back where lower branches and vines had gotten out of control. One thing I forgot to mention was that we wanted the branches cut into smaller pieces for our firepit. After the crew left, I noticed some of the pieces were pretty long and thick, so I messaged Alex. He had someone come back later that same day to take care of it, which I really appreciated. We've since had a firepit night, and most of the wood burned great, just a few bigger pieces we had to cut down a bit more ourselves. Overall, Double A's was easy to work with, responsive, and did a solid job. I'd definitely use them again in the future.
