We came here as our first brunch place in Brugge. The place is an easy walk from our hotel. And because it's big there is no long line in the sun. The servers speak great English and are very accommodating to tourist such as us. As we are still learning about the culture here etc some parts of the menu are served at specific times of the day. We came here every morning we were in town, it was that good. The Americano is stellar. They use some sort of magical beans from southern Italy and I can honestly say i'd never had a better coffee in my life. Served with a cookie and a delicious piece of chocolate, this was a heavenly way to start the day. We also ordered the hot chocolate (comes with the milk, chocolate chips and whipped cream all separately so you can customise to your heart's content), which the BF loved. We at breakfast here twice, as well - we ordered both the Zoet and the Zout. The ham/sunny side up egg combo was outstanding. Gorgeous presentation, delicious cheese, bread, everything! The meat/cheese/jams plate was also wonderful - a great variety, everything so fresh and beautifully plated. The apple tart I had here was so light, smooth and pretty. Great flavor, great crust, perfect level of sweetness. I couldn't stop smiling! The inside here is spacious, modern, warm & inviting. They have plentiful, clean WC/bathrooms, fast wifi (check the chalkboard for password or just ask!), and outlets in case you need to charge your devices! Very friendly service, menus in English, staff also speaks English and gives great recommendations if you have questions on what to do around town. Even after our 45-day trek thru Europe, this place and the meals we ate here remained in our top 10 food experiences. All in all, a delightful coffee shop. This is the coffee place of my dreams. I really wish they would open this same exact shop in NYC. I stopped in bc it was so highly rated on yelp, but I just wanted a place to grab some hot chocolate and to write some postcards. I wasn't too picky, but I discovered a hidden treasure in choosing this place. The interior is so beautifully decorated, and they have free wifi and menus in English. It's so cozy and homey. The owners are very nice and welcoming. I just camped out for an hour, and nobody bothered me. The hot chocolate was the best I've had in Belgium, but it may have been influenced by the beautiful presentation. It came with a complimentary speculoos cookie and a complimentary piece of chocolate. (Cannot complain about chocolate in Belgium) I complimented the owner on the design, and you can tell they put lots of care in choosing every little detail. The little glass container the chocolate chips came in, the glass sugar cube holder...gonna buy my own when I get back home, for the same kind of feel. He even let me know that the pen for signatures was an artist pen! I love that he takes such pride in his shop. Reading the other reviews, it seems that the food is fresh and locally sourced. Delicious and hearty breakfast! Nothing fancy and complicated, just straight up real wholesome food where you can taste the quality. We got the platter with scrambled eggs, wholesome fresh bread, smoked salmon and a selection of cheeses. I don't frequently see sourdough bread in Europe but it was one of their signature here. I also tried their hot chocolates which was also very delicious. The owner was very personable and the service was great. It's ran by the wife and husband team and so the service can feel understaff but be patient with them as they are trying their best to give you the best experience and really trying to make connections with their customers. read more

I told the owner this was the best coffee I've ever had (and I meant it), and he wasn't surprised, but very gracious and happy to talk about the Sicilian origin. I had the doppio - 2 actually, so 4(!) espressos, so excuse the unbridled enthusiasm! For brunch, sunny side up eggs with cheese, bread with delicious, lightly salted butter. It's true that sometimes the simplest ingredients are the most delicious. These two treat their guests as friends, and they clearly love food and love coffee. I love this little gem in Bruges. The owner and I think his wife were running the ola de. Looks like a locals coffee shop. We hit this place up for a quick lunch and coffee after arriving from Amsterdam. The service was excellent. I tried the croque bagel (lots of cheese) and my husband had the breakfast. The bread is hand sliced and you are served a variety to try. The coffee options are many. My husband had a chai latter with honey and vanilla and loved it. I had the lungho and loved it. I arrived at this place on a rainy day for tea and loved it until the end of my visit. At the end of my visit, I was very taken aback when the owner gave me grief for paying with a credit card (in 2019). This was after he told me (when I arrived) that all the breakfast food was gone, so there wasn't anything to get for breakfast. I had stuck with tea due to the lack of breakfast options, but when it came time to pay, I immediately felt unwelcome and regretted stopping in. The owner was extremely passive aggressive, pointing out that I had used his WiFi, ordered tea, and was now paying with a credit card (the nerve of me!). He kept both inferring and telling me outright that I was costing him money. He even then told me the amount I was costing him (€0.50). I politely inquired if he required cash or had a minimum (because I had looked, and no minimum was posted), and he said "No, there's no minimum required." Seeing as I didn't have euros on me, I paid with my card. Hmmm. Suggestions: - Don't assume people can read your mind. - If you intend to give customers grief about paying with a credit card, it helps to clearly post a cash minimum. Communicate openly with them. - If you intend to give customers grief about using WiFi, do not post "Free Wifi!" in your window and write the network name/password in decorative chalk at the top of the chalk board. - If you're sick of tourists visiting in this extremely touristy area of Bruges, especially those accustomed to paying for everything in Europe with a credit card, please communicate upfront that you'd rather they pay in cash or not visit your cafe. - If you intend to complain to customers about a cheap order after telling them that the food is all gone, don't serve or sell cheap items like tea. Or if you do, tell them upfront that you prefer cash. (That way, you can lose the customer up front.) I've realized that "customer service professionals" in Europe don't work for tips and thus can afford to be (what I would consider in my culture) rude to their patrons. But this one was very off-putting to me because the owner actively had no minimum requirements for credit card payments, was blatantly advertising WiFi, and didn't even have a full cafe (in which I would have been taking up a valuable seat). read more

Cute little coffee shop! The owner was so charming and very friendly and helpful. We ordered the special which was more than enough for two. I also ordered the soup of the day which was broccoli soup and that was an enormous portion! The bread was the star with having given four different types of freshly baked bread that were all amazing! My friend ordered Pure Hibiscus which he liked and I ordered Savory Desires which is a mixture of verbena, peppermint flavors. During a recent trip to Amsterdam and Bruges, this was one of my favorites spots for breakfast. It was a very local mom & pop type feel in Belgium, which was nice. The owner came up to everyone's tables to welcome us, say hello, and introduce himself and his menu. All of the breads are baked fresh and sliced by order. minutes ago my family and I went to this place for breakfast because of the reviews. Once we got into that small place all the people stares at us. Tables were all full and some others reserved. The only available place to sit were some couches, so there we were. When I was making my way to sit on that nasty couch I heard "NO" from an old guy that was cooking and all the stares were on us again....I haven't felt this miserable in my life. This place is a little gem. Hubby and I were looking for a good, non touristy spot to enjoy a nice hearty breakfast and good coffee. This place is so cute and just a pleasant place to sip coffee and eat some serious home cooked food. It blows the crap they serve at Starbucks out of the water. I can't tell if it's a husband and wife that run it, but it had that mom and pop feel that we enjoy in the states. They were both so polite and catered to fact that we are American and only knew bare minimal of the native languages to the area. If you're in the area, stop in and check them out.
