Coffee was the favorite as it tasted like a latte and didn't kill you with sugar. There were no chili or other spicy chocolates offered, which was something we enjoy. Imagine our surprise when The Chocolate Line came up as the number one store in every review I read. Due to this we returned to try other items in case we missed what made them so popular. Nothing was memorable. We actually preferred items from 2 other local shops listed in the top reviews. We're not certain if we selected the wrong options or if we have pedantic chocolate taste buds.

The service was respectable but sadly, there's no tap water available. The menu consists of starters, fish, meat and a "tourist menu" (aka. three course set menu). - Gueuze (€4,00) - a quaffable, enjoyable lambic beer. Got a hint of a fruity note (apparently grapefruit). - Brugs tarwe (wheat beer) (€4,00) - Flemish beef stew (€18,50) - our buddy enjoyed this dish. - 3x Tourist menu (€18,50) - this is the best bang for your buck as you get a soup of the day (tomato), meat with fries and salad (option of steak, half a chicken, pork chop or salmon) and dessert (vanilla ice cream, sorbet (ask if you're lactose intolerant) or profiteroles). We went with the steak, pork chop and salmon. Oddly, they didn't ask for our steak preference. It was cooked medium and was slightly overcooked. Pork chop was worse; dry and bland. Our friend liked her salmon. Fries were standard fare. Salad was overdressed and you barely get a handful. The best thing was the tomato soup which had good depth and came with bread. The vanilla ice cream wasn't memorable but the profiteroles with chocolate sauce were better. Nothing that will blow you away but okay. One of the cheaper table d'hotes we found but the food was hit and miss. Would I come back? I don't think so.

Oyya also has ice cream so my wife ordered her waffle with ice cream and I had mine with caramel sauce. All I can say is WOW. I've never had a waffle so good. Full of flavor with a nice firm texture. Plenty of "block " seating outside. Not a very good lap eater but at least I didn't make a mess! That being said there is a minimum $10 euro credit card charge and the sweets were varying levels of neutral to bad. Their Ghent nose had an extremely unpleasant aftertaste that the local Ghent vendor's noses lack and the other chocolates were all clearly not fresh, several also having a bad aftertaste. We threw several away half eaten. Overall, Verheecke appears to be extremely touristy with poor quality wares and I would absolutely skip them.

I waited quite a bit for them and when they decided to add in more items (which they were confused about again) I finally called it and put everything back, having to edge around them again to push my way out. I'd like to see Duman add in a second associate for the back counter, ask customers to keep the doorway clear, and if the guest is unsure of what they want and there's a line, move on to the next customer and give them time to think about it. In all in, with the current shop setup I don't think I'll be back.
