I paid a bill of 31 euros with a 200 euros note and one euro coin, because paying with the card was not possible. Later in the day (about an hour after my payment in the restaurant) I noticed that I had received 50 euros change too little from the manager. I went right back. The manager claimed she had returned correctly. Though when I told her that she only returned 120 euros, she confirmed that it was the correct amount. But when I said that this wasn't correct and that the change should be 150 euros, she quickly corrected what she had said and claimed that she had given 150 euros in change. This led me to believe that she was being dishonest. When I insisted, she told me aggressively that it was not possible to count the cash register and that I could call her a few hours later, after 6 pm, to find out if she had actually returned 50 euros too little.
Around 6 pm she didn't answer the phone and there was no one in the restaurant anymore, despite promising me she would definitely still be there at that time. So she clearly lied about the time I could call her back on purpose, which I found very suspicious.
The next morning, I went back to the restaurant and asked her if she had counted the cash register. She claimed that her cash register was correct and that she had only 21 euros cash difference. She claimed that this money was from tips from the previous day.
I then consulted a local police officer and explained the situation. The local police officer told me that she regularly receives complaints about this manager from various customers. The local police officer decided to mediate, but the manager was absolutely not open to it. She lied to the police officer that I was aggressive and that she hadn't had a chance to say anything back to me. This is absolutely not true as the manager constantly walked away from me during my complaint earlier. As you can see her arguments were very weak. Furthermore, she played a victim role by trying to manipulate the local police officer by involving problems from her personal life. In the end she gave me 25 euros in cash but refused to refund me the full 50 euros. She stole 25 euros from me! The local police officer advised me to file a complaint with the police and the Consumer complaint Service, which I did.
