The menu is small but has all the essentials that a wine bar should have- charcuterie and cheese, tapenade, bread olives etc. After one glass we decided to try a bottle, and on recommendation by the staff ordered a lovely red from the cote du Rhone region, which was lush and velvety and fairly priced at £17.50 (plus £5 corkage to drink in). They are now doing a simple but really well-executed menu of food: mainly focused on charcuterie, cheese and different flavoured bruschettas. So similar to what the other wine bars are doing around London but a little bit better. Their burrata is large but disappears very quickly from the table... All of their cured meats are delicious too. If you need to get out of the house in the morning it's a great place to read a book/newspaper and enjoy a beautiful Italian roast coffee and some sourdough toast. I got the caramel latte. And they have a small open fridge area for house hold groceries (water, peanut butter, jelly, protein shakes, juices etc). Seating is limited but it's a fast casual spot so turnover is high. Mostly take-away customers. Lastly the customer service was above and beyond each time I have been here. But this weeknight it was pleasant and spacious. Of course Italian beer was on the menu, so I partook. Bruschetta is always a top choice, and their take with cherry tomatoes was unique and delicious. You can't go wrong wjth burrata w/ rockets either. The mains are of course pasta, and so many choices mean you could almost close your eyes and point. Tonight I went with lasagna, but risotto or gnocchi looked tempting. Also they have some creative additions like Crespoline (stuffed pancakes with cheese, spinach, sauce). If you're not feeling Italian tonight, pick from many traditional English delicacies such as "fish and chips" or "The Club Sandwich". I was way too full for dessert, but had I partaken, it would have been gelato or sorbet all the way. I'll return next time I'm on the trek East.

We ordered two small (175ml) glasses of the Shiraz/Cabernet and a bottle of fizzy water. (The bill was a bit steep at 19 quid, I thought). The wine could have done with being poured from a great height into the glass. It just needed opening up a little, but was a little metallic and not worth whatever we paid for it. The ambience was ok for a Tuesday night - about a third full of 'Wharf' workers (apparently there is no other wharf in London when you work near here...). There was only one other table occupied upstairs with us, which suited us fine as we were having the most interesting conversation that was probably best not overheard. The service was friendly, but a little too insistent. We took an hour to drink a glass of wine and bottle of water, and we were asked around seven times if we wanted any more wine or to order some food. That's a little under ten minutes between visits, which wasn't too bad, but since we could clearly see the waitress, it wasn't strictly necessary. The decor is pretty cold and nothing about this place is very inviting. Still, it's convenient for my friend's work and perfectly easy to be in - just don't expect stunning wine or for the other patrons to be all that interesting.

Get's busy on Thurs & Fri but still less rammed and slightly more civilized than most places in the wharf. Apart from the shape of the room, you'd be hard pressed to notice any similarities as the new management have done a complete re-fit. It looks and feels exactly like you'd expect from a European wine bar, with exposed bricks, wooden tables and a chalk board showing the current specials. On the warm Friday evening we visited, the bar was busy with South East London locals keen to try out the new offering, but not to the point where we couldn't get a table. They also had a couple of outside tables, meaning even smokers can enjoy a glass of wine without having to step outside. Service was on the slow side, with our water and bread, olive oil and toasted almonds being brought out almost immediately, followed by a 5 minute wait for the bottle of wine. The waiter was apologetic, and the owner did admit they needed to improve their service speed, so I'm sure it won't be an on-going problem. They have an extensive wine list, with mostly French offerings, along with a few other international selections. Being French there's no choice of glass sizes, it's either a 175ml glass, 500ml carafe or a full bottle. Prices were on the higher side (starting at £18 for the cheapest bottles and quickly escalating as you progress down the list), but I think it's a reflection on the quality. The £31 bottle of sauvignon/chardonnay blend we had was excellent. We didn't try the food apart from the bread, which was good and according to the menu, is from the French bakery next door. There were set meat and cheese platters available, or you could go "a la carte" and make your own selection. I'm not particularly a wine bar person, instead preferring a beer at the pub, but Le Bouchon is somewhere I'll definitely return.

The wine list is small but focused, which is what I like. A lot of the team are from heavy-hitting restaurants in London, including Mayfields and Spring. The dining room is very minimal, bare white walls means the emphasis here is on the food. (I've often found the more decorated and ostentatious a dining room is, the more mediocre the food... Clove club and dinner by HB are some exceptions, though). You can choose from a set menu of 5 courses or choose to order a la carte. We chose the former. I really liked my dish with the egg yolk. And the raw scallop was wonderfully tender. Everything was coursed with perfect timing and our runner gracefully announced each dish even though the restaurant was quite busy. I'd like to be back to try their other offerings when they change the menu.
