You might be able to tell from my name that I'm Greek. That said since my arrival to Boise about a year ago I've been on the hunt for a great Greek restaurant and been disappointed. I keep a spreadsheet (currently at 93) of all the restaurants I've visited in the Treasure Valley to date along with a grade and description. Like my own personal Yelp. I only add that to impress upon you that when I say Kostas is the best, it's the best Greek restaurant bar none. The seafood sampler is perfect and the Tzatziki (yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, olive oil dip) is fresh maid, traditional and perfect. Gyro with a lamb and beef mix as perfect and I had my side Greek salad without lattice the more traditional way, also perfect. Wish I had room for desert but neither me or my son had any room left because were stuffed. It's also nice this is a family business and when I was talking with Kostas daughter in law and enjoying the food so much I told her to complement Kosta in Greek, " ! (polý oraía) or Very Nice". That's when I got to meet Chef Kosta and we chatted in Greek and I learned all about the place and the plans for the future. I can't wait for my Friday visit for the chicken and lemon potatoes which is one of my all-time favorites I cook myself and of course Saturday's special Lamb Shank. When the weather cools down he's planning to add Avgolemono as a soup choice. One of my favorite soups on earth. When you go to an ethnic restaurant and the patrons are the same ethnicity it's always a good sign, that would be me. I love this place. I'm very excited to be able to now say: "When you are in Boise and want Greek food you go to Kostas Tavern" just like when I say if you are in: LA the best Greek food is at Papa Cristo's or Chicago the best Greek food is at Greek Islands Restaurant. read more

All the employees were so friendly. The food was AMAZING! We got the Broiler platter for 3 of us and ate every last piece. We went for lunch and will definitely be back again soon! Inside was so cute and authentic. read more

This place is so fresh, so inviting and such a relaxing experience every time we go. We love Ashley the server SO much. My three year old is smitten with her and she has such attention to detail and the best suggestions and attentiveness that I've seen in any server in a long time. Outstanding, first rate all the way. Stopped by for lunch and I was served the most delicious sea bass I have ever tasted. The flavor of the sauce was deep and complex while still allowing the delicate bronzini to shine. The fish was moist and a generous serving. The grilled bread was the perfect "tool" to sop up all the sauce. The side salad was crisp and had a tasty house made dressing. The wine list also includes some Greek varieties that are worth a try. Quiet place, quick service, and delicious food. I'd go back just for the fried zucchini app with the hatch chili tzatziki sauce! Cant wait to go back and try even more food! Also recommend the pork. All the stars, they deserve all of them. The nicest people you will find anywhere. You have to get the hummus, it is the best I have ever tasted. Kosta's. Eagle's hidden little secret, but not for long. Everytime we go, it's busier. Last night there was a wait by the time we left. The food is delicious, authentic, and wonderful. You really can't go wrong. We started with nice glass of wine. We love the zucchini appetizer with tzatiki. Flavorful and not greasy. Last night we splurged for the seafood platter appetizer, shrimp, calamari, and lobster, coated and fried, then served on a bed of delicious fries. For entrees, we enjoyed the shrimp pasta in coconut cream, the Friday night chicken and potatoes, and the pastistio. All were wonderful. Although they offer authentic Greek desserts, we could not hold a bite more. Eating at Kosta's is like sharing a warm happy meal with family. Restaurant was clean and nice and the service and staff were great. BUT the food was absolutely horrible. All you tasted in their food was lemon juice. I ordered the lamb shank....it was a piece of overcooked meat, flavored with lemon juice in a bowl of oil with some potato's and carrots. The falafel was dry and bland the fried seafood was over cooked and bland. Absolute waste of money. read more

Visited for Kosta's Taverna for the first time... and, we will be back. The food and service were awesome. My new favorite Greek restaurant in the Treasure Valley. We started with an order of pita and hummus. The pita was warm and fresh, and the hummus very tasty. Then, a side salad and cup of avgolemono soup (chicken, rice, lemon) - both excellent. I had the moussaka... it had been years since having it. I'm pretty sure it will be my new go-to entree' - so good (plus, I have leftovers for another meal). We had the pastitsio. The salad they brought was amazing. Then the pastitsio came and one bite later, we were in love. The service was always there. I am thrilled. I have lived in Boise for 4 years and we do not have anything close to proper Greek cuisine.. until now! The pastitsio is a must order as are the dips, spanakopita, & chicken & potatoes. I love that they serve Greek wine & beer also.
