I went to the Warehouse for lunch with friends. Mazzah Mediterranean Grill had vegan options and the server was knowledgeable with what was vegan. I wanted a falafel and rice bowl. This used to be a great place. Now, they nickel and dime you for everything in their bowls. This is a Mediterranean place and they charge extra for olives and feta. Their bowls used to include about 10 toppings, and now it's two, but not olives or cheese. Also, another time I had very poor customer service. I showed up behind someone who had ordered online, it took the front staff 10 min to look through the order to make sure it was ok. Then, a phone call came and their order was taken before mine, even though I had been in line for 10 minutes already. I'm not sure when people on the phone became superior to real life. read more

This place has really gone downhill. The staff are rude and seem almost irritated that you want to eat there anytime after 6pm. The food was the worst I have had in a while. I can't believe it's taken me so long to review this place. It's our go to Mediterranean restaurant. We actually pass about 4 other Mediterranean restaurants on our way to visit Mazzah because their food is so good and the prices are so fair. Of course, my favorite thing to get at any Mediterranean restaurant is a typical gyro. I highly recommend this here. You have to get a side of the french fries as well because they are just so good. They offer fry sauce which of course is delicious but we also like to get a side of tzatziki and dip the fries in tzatziki. It's better than ranch! I'd rate their tzatziki, a five out of 10. Their gyro sandwich is a 9/10. They offer a very generous portion of meat and toppings for the single sandwich. Their plain hummus is another favorite . It's well worth the $8.50 that they charge for a side of hummus and pita. You get a lot of hummus and the flavor is spot on. This is a great shareable appetizer . Rating 10/10. Finally, another thing that I highly recommend is the baba ghanoush. This is an eggplant dip that you wouldn't necessarily know as eggplant, it's blended together with spices and It has the perfect blend of smokiness and flavor. I rate this a 10/10. It is perfect with some pita and is well worth the price for a large side of it. Very shareable. This is a counter service restaurant, you order and pay and can eat in or out on their sidewalk patio. Every time we visit, it seems that the majority of people order it to go. No matter where you decide to consume it I highly recommend this place. Imagine spending over $100 on dinner for your family of five -- and they "forget" one of your kids' meals. Then the children's food doesn't come out with the rest of the family so the kids are sitting waiting to eat. They tell you "sorry we dropped their food." Then they bring only one kids meal out and tell you didn't pay for a second child's plate. We order from here every week, but this time was next-level chaos and the manager didn't even apologize. Says you can wait and pay for another meal but we're closing. Food? Service? Absolute disaster. Terrible management. Not the worst but definitely not the best gyro. The presentation looks great. It was fast and the employees were clean and fast. The bread was a bit dry. Which in combination with the dry feta. Which seemed to be a low grade brand. It left the gyro dry. The iceberg lettuce can work but not when you cut huge pieces and it eats more like a salad. The lamb was very good. Stopped for lunch yesterday. Ordered the classic Gyro with fries. Lettuce had a strange taste to it, and was the main ingredient. There was a lot of it. Very little meat, two slices of tomato, and a small drizzle of taziki. The pita was over grilled to the point of being dry and crunchy. The basic fries were the best part of the meal. How sad. Mazza Meditarian used to me one of my favorite places to get a gyro. I haven't visited in a couple years because I no longer work in the area. I was very disappointed today. I ordered a traditional gyro without lettuce or tomato. It was served to me cold. The pita was cold and the meat was cold, both like they had been served straight out of the refrigerator . We were recommended to try Mazzah and it did not disappoint. I really liked that they have vegan options as well as a menu that allows guests to create their own menu inspiration My wife ordered the chicken kabob with rice and I ordered the stuffed grape leaves, dolma, and hummus as well as the Za'atr bread. The staff member who took our order was so patient with us and really helped us navigate the menu and choices. We were not sure if we would be able to dine in but after confirming with the staff, we were able to have a date night inside a restaurant. Another staff member stopped by and let us know that the kabob would be prepared to order with a 15 minute wait time. It was not an issue as it allowed us to spend more of our date night in a restaurant together. NOTE: At this time, about a month ago or so, we wore our masks until our order arrived, and when our order arrived and shortly after our server left, we carefully removed and stored our masks to begin eating. All of the dishes arrived and they were stunningly presented. The chicken kabob over the bed of rice in the bowl was aromatically pleasing and the rolled / stuffed grape leaves were perfectly presented. The hummus was freshly made and the Za'atr bread was the most mysterious. I went for the Za'atr bread first as it really intrigued me. The spices were an overload but not in a bad way, just in a new way. It was sparks and fireworks in my mouth all at the same time. Crazy and ridiculously tasty. The hummus was just right. It was not overly lemony but it was not dry and the pita bread was warm and crisp but not burnt. The rolled grape leaves aka Dolma were sticky sweet on the outside and stuffed with spices and flavors inside. They were my absolute favorite of everything we tried. My wife really like her kabab and rice. The charred cubes of chicken and onions were just right. Throughout our meal, multiple staff came over to check on us and visit. Afterwards we each had some Turkish coffee and some baklava. The coffee is out of world experience. There's chicory and other spices. It's strong to be sure but the perfect after dinner drink. My wife gently savored the baklava and commented on its sweet sticky notes with its crunchy pastry crisps. It was a date night to remember and we're looking forward to coming back soon. I ordered a traditional gyro meat gyro and some hummus on the side. The spicy tzatziki sauce was AMAZING. I would def. suggest adding that spicy to your meal. Mazzah Mediterranean Grill is Boise's second oldest Mediterranean restaurant. The first was Cazba, which opened in 1990 and closed in 2014. Mazzah, which is owned by a wonderful Palestinian family, opened in 2008 and has been voted Boise's Best Mediterranean restaurant ever since. Located in a strip mall across the street from Albertson's on 16th, Mazzah is a great option to consider when seeking Mediterranean food. There used to be a second location on Park Center, Boulevard in Boise, but it closed in 2021. Like many restaurants, Mazzah streamlined it's menu in 2020. But they also redesigned it to a Build Your Meal model, which I don't care for. The terminology makes it sound like it's fast food, which it isn't. Almost everything is made in house, and from scratch. I preferred the original menu, which offered Appetizers, Platters, Salads, Desserts, and platters instead of bowls, and lots of sides to choose from. The inside of the restaurant has a very casual/ quick service vibe. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. They do a lot of takeout orders. Most restaurants don't perform as well when putting together takeout orders, compared to on site dining. Mazzah is the exception. Whether you dine in or choose to do takeout, you can be assured you're going to get the same meal. These are photos are from a takeout meal a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a rice bowl for $10.50, which is "your choice of protein served over a bed of rice with warm pita." For my protein, I ordered Beef Shawarma, which cost $1 more. Prior to visiting, I studied the menu because I find the new ordering system rather confusing and wanted to be prepared. When my order arrived, I was surprised to see that my rice bowl didn't come with vegetables as photographed. When I asked about it, I was told that the photographs on the restaurants website menu are old, and they don't serve it that way anymore. I was told if I wanted it to look that way, I would need to add on an order of a vegetable skewer. It would've been nice if that had been offered as an option from the start, as well as noted on the menu. As much as I wanted the vegetables, it didn't make sense to order them that late in the game because the rest of my food would've been cold. I also got a large order of Hummus and Pita ($8.50). I asked for a side of tzatziki and garlic sauce to go with my beef Shawarma. I enjoyed my meal, but I prefer the Gyro meat to the Beef Shawarma. It was a generous portion of food that made several meals for me. I recommend you compare the photos of Mazzah's food to the ones for my recent review of Zullee Mediterranean Grill in Meridian. Pay close attention to prices and food quality. I don't normally mention other restaurants at all in my posts, but I am making an exception this time because Zullee, which is a franchise, is getting a lot of buzz, while family-owned restaurants like Mazzah often go unnoticed. I give 4 stars for the food and 3 for decor and upkeep. I ordered the traditional gyro and was not disappointed. The pita bread was especially nice, and was as soft as a babies bottom. The meat was tasty and well seasoned, and the fries were hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and perfectly salted. Pretty basic gyro with good flavors and did the trick satisfying my empty belly. The place is quite a bit outdated, run down and not of the standard of cleanliness in the front house as I would expect, but I suspect that it probably looks a bit dirty (and may not be) simply because it's a bit run down. I heard through the grapevine that the owner is planning on an upgrade/remodel and I am hopeful for that since that would definitely take the place up a notch. I don't know why they took the platters off the menu. I can only think pure greed. What a shame. Food isn't even that great anymore, WAY different than it was years ago. I ordered it with the chicken kabob upgrade and mujadara upgrade plus one falafel and it included one little cup of tzatziki and tahini sauce. This came to $11.00. Total rip-off. The chicken kabob was tiny, had no vegetables (guess they assume kids don't like them?), the mujadara used to be so good. It's pretty pitiful now. Barely any lentils, and the fried onions are now just scant and crispy whereas they used to be a mix of succulent caramelization and crispiness. Portions back in the day were plentiful. Even adult orders there now aren't that plentiful. The chicken kabob wasn't that good. Not much flavor and the chicken lacked juiciness. Rice is meh. The tzatziki sauce is very good imo. It was the best part of the dish. The pita bread does taste like store bought but it has a nice crispy edge on it which I enjoyed. The falafel I got definitely didn't satisfy my craving for a good falafel. It was really small and dry and pretty flavorless. The tahini sauce was a big letdown. It tasted just like plain runny tahini. I get Boise doesn't have a lot of ethnic places especially if you're close to downtown or the north end and don't want to drive too far. I look forward to getting a truly good Greek place that delivers quality for the price. Sad to say Mazzeh has become very pedestrian and places profit margins over customer satisfaction and value. Lentil soup. Greek salad. That. Might be one of the best lunches ever. Matzah makes an amazing version of it. Their lentil soup is rich and creamy and has bright spices with lemony tang and some zatar flavors. The Greek salad is full of fresh vegetables like cucumber and tomato chunks, giant olives, spring greens, and onions, covered with an oregano vinaigrette, and then topped with feta cheese. The two together are more than enough for a meal. However, I like to add an appetizer of pita bread with hummus because theirs is amazing. The hummus is super creamy. I've made hummus before and it's easy to make it gritty or grainy, but theirs seems to be made from freshly chickpeas. It had just the right balance of garlic and olive oil, and Ian perfectly balanced. It pairs well on their freshly-baked pita bread, which they often serve warm. If you need more food after that, they have baklava as a dessert which is amazing. It has a thousand layers of crispy puff pastry layered with honey and pistachios. It's super sweet and sticky and addictive. Be prepared to make a mess. Sometimes the store can be a little messy, and the prices here keep going up. I wish they'd serve larger portions for what they charge but I know costs for everyone are increasing so I understand what's they're fighting against. Quality food costs money and Mazzeh is worth it. read more
