Didn't appreciate at all the attempt to hard sell on all brake pads, rotors and tires to pass inspection. Many of the parts were well within PA guidelines. Haven't gone to kost in over 25 years because of non quality work. Well after buying home in forest city figured I would give local business a shot. Should have trusted my gut. Bought four new Goodyear tires 1600 dollars for ram rebel. When I arrived to pick truck up blue was still on raised white letters and tires were static balanced. All stick on weights inside rim were removed rims left dirty and only inside clip on weights were added. Tires are not true shake. Manager John said his tech balances Corvette tires lol. I got invoice and on invoice John typed needs alignment to cover their shotty balance job when tires start wearing wrong. Now have to take to professional shop that care about doing good work. My step-daughter recently broke down on Rt. 81 and was towed to this location by AAA. At first I was very apprehensive about her getting repair service from a chain location. After she had a discussion with Matt in the morning, he agreed to have a mechanic look at the car early in the day. Matt was very straightforward and instead of making obvious repairs that may not provide a lasting solution, he gave her sound advice that I would expect from a known and trusted mechanic. Short story: The tires I was sold were not eligible for the rebate that I was told I would get. Then, they gave me the run around for 3 months and finally made me an offer for some 'In Store Credit' and told me to "take it or leave it". Regional manager did not return the multiple messages that I left on his voicemail. Long story: I was sold a set of 4 tires at the Forest City store by Chris. I was told the tires were eligible for $150 rebate through their Goodyear promotion. I submitted the rebate form online about a week after having the tires installed and found out that my rebate was being denied about a week after that. The model tires I was sold were not eligible for the rebate. Chris said come in on Saturday and they would swap them out. He called me back on Friday to tell me that they wouldn't be able to do that because I had driven on them for about 3 weeks (understandable, I put about 900 miles on them at that point), but he would contact Goodyear about the rebate. After about 3 weeks, I called Chris to follow up. "Oh, so-and-so is vacation. They will be back soon." So, I waited a couple more weeks and reached out again. This time Chris was busy in the shop, and the following 2 days as well (obviously avoiding my calls now). When I finally did get ahold of him, he told they could do an in-store credit but that was it and I could "take it or leave it." That was good to hear, like I'm the one who screwed up. I asked for a supervisor's number, he gave me the Clarks Summit store number, not the corporate office number. When I did finally find the corporate number on my own, I left multiple messages for Ken, the regional manager (at least that's who I was told he is). I have received any response to those messages. This is a horrible place to take your vehicle to. Cheap chinese brakes that blew up a week after getting them. They blamed it on the manufacture and said they were a defect. They put new cheap chinese ones on that lasted about 18,000 miles. However, they wore prematurely too and caused all 4 rotors to warp. They do not lube the calipers, nor do they set the lines properly. Now, two calipers are destroyed. Complete clowns here with little to no experience here. If you drive your kids around, do yourself a favor and protect them properly. Take your vehicle to a reputable garage that uses OEM or OEM equivalent parts and have an actual mechanic that is trained, certified, and experienced work on your vehicle. read more

I don't know if it was luck or that was normal, but as a customer I really was treated great. He even quoted 3 hours but it was only 2, tires were cheaper than we expected but still got great quality. Even though they are over priced, I take my car there because of convenience. I live in Clarks Summit, plus they are within walking distance of a park, restaurants, and other businesses. Before going in today, I tried to make an appointment. They do not make appointments for new tires and an oil change, so you get no time guarantee or even window. My moms car back right wheel needed new breaks so my mom goes into Kost and asks them to look at it. Not only did they charge an obscene amount of money just for and inspection, they also lied to her telling her that her car was barely drivable because all 4 rotors was rusted and her brakes were "barely hanging on." They completely lied to my mother and tried to charge her $700 to replace all 4 brakes and rotors. I took the car to my friend to take a look at it and he told me the rotors and brakes were perfectly fine except for the rear right brake which did need to be changed. It only cost me 80 bucks for two sets of rear brakes while Kost tried to charge my mom $700 while completely lying to her. Trust me don't go here it's a complete scam, get some people you know that knows a bit about cars and have them take a look at it. read more

I'm 100% comfortable bringing my car here for service, and feeling that I'm not getting oversold. I've been bringing our cars here for about 10 years, through a remodel and a change of managers. They've all been great. Service is quick, but they have a free shuttle if you don't want to wait. If I recall, they have at least one (or maybe more) tv's in the waiting area, some periodicals and garage-quality coffee. They also have several displays of cool wheels for sale that will make yours seem inferior in comparison. If you're up-sold on a tire, they'll explain the pro's and con's of tire life, road noise, etc. Then they'll let you make your own decision. No pressure sales here, but the advice has been very good and I've been happy when I've upgraded, because I used to run through tires like crazy when I'd buy the cheapest that they had. Maybe the guys are on commission, but they've never come across like they are trying to sell me something more than I need. I dropped my car off this weekend for an oil change and rotation. I'd had a weird, chemical-y smell coming from my AC for quite a while and didn't know how to fix it. They called and said I need a new cabin air filter, which is something that I never even knew existed. I gave the ok, they installed it and the problem is fixed. It smells very nice (neutral + some farts) inside of my car now. I think they match competitor's tire pricing, as well, but check on that. I come back...every 5k. read more

We walked in, heard the manager tell the customer ahead of us that they had 25 vehicles ahead of his to work on this Saturday morning. We thought we might have a major wheel bearing repair...that had been the reason we exited at Clarks Summit and spent the night, so thought we'd be there most of the day. When we came back after breakfast Matt met us at the car, handed back the fob and said we were 'good to go'. The issue had been simply (but critically) loose lug nuts. Relieved, we asked how much for the diagnosis/solution..."nothing". This Particular Kost shop is in Eynon, Pa., part of the old Sugerman's building. It's not listed on Yelp Yet. Had 2 tie rod ends installed on my car and 4 brand new tires, the car wore all tires evenly for the two years that I'd owned it up until then, Took it in for alignment, picked it up, the car was severely over steering and tweaking off the road on any slight dip in the road, undriveable. Took it back in the next day, they aligned it again saying whoever aligned it the first time had every measurement way off. This time the car handled fairly well. 3,000 miles later, I notice my rear tires are no longer legal on the outside tread. They are highly rated with a 65,000 mile warranty. and rave customer reviews. The fronts are also wearing badly. I take the car in, and I'm told The bushings on the "Upper Lateral Control Arms" need replacing. I order parts all the time, There is no such "Upper Lateral Control arm" listed, and the part numbers given to me for ordering are for the trailing arm. Not Related. I take it to my mechanic who installed the tie rod ends. We check the rear suspension, there is NOTHING loose or worn on the rear, but one front tie rod end is noticeably worn. At this point I'm out 450 dollars in tires (after 3,000 miles) and 90 bucks for the first alignment. I talk to the manager and ask how did you miss the tie rod end, which is very obvious, and why are you telling me to buy parts for the rear when it needs nothing back there. He laughs and says whoever worked on it must have been hungover, and to bring it back down. I said at this point, you are just wasting my time and money and I have zero confidence in your shop. He apologizes. It was civil. Seems like a nice enough guy. In my experience this shop has zero competence with car alignments, and there is really no recourse. Once they screw it up they won't do anything to make it right besides waste your valuable time in the waiting room, or dropping the car off or picking it up. If the work isn't done and it's crushing your new tires, you are welcome to bring it back in as many times as you like, but they have no intention of fixing it. STAY AWAY !!!! Find another alignment shop who gives half a crap. These guys have you over a barrel and they know it. Just my experience, don't say you weren't warned. read more

I brought in my daughter's car. Pat, Store Manager, was very courteous and quickly got the car in for inspection. After inspection, he showed me the problem and resolution. I badly needed a four wheel alignment and four tires. Never did he try to upsell me on nitrogen air for my tires, or changing them to summer air, tune-up, new wiper blades and so forth. I told them to go ahead with four new Goodyear tires and an alignment. They had a driver bring me home. They are great people and we will return. read more

My girlfriend had her father look at her car (he has been working on cars for years) and said everything looked like it would pass inspection. She takes it for inspection and they tell her that both her brakes and her rear tires fail. She says that makes no sense and says her dad will call. He calls and suddenly the story changes. They say that the tires and breaks meet the state minimum but don't meet "their standards" and so they don't want to pass it. They claim that they are looking 2 years out, despite the fact that inspections are yearly. They saw a young female and tried to make money off of her. read more

Went to get an inspection to be told my car failed. Andrew said it was due to my battery being "too small." He also said my treads were too low on my rear tires and i needed a new (4 tire) set. He tried to sell me a battery and tires in order to pass inspection. The price? $900. I asked why I passed inspection all of these years with the same battery and he advised me that they are more thorough with their inspections and need to comply with PA regulations otherwise they would lose their license. But aren't they all required to inspect the same way? I took my car elsewhere and I passed inspection with flying colors. Beware of Kost and Andrew and his up selling schemes. This place is horrible. Very over priced on top of that. We got work done 5 months ago and the parts were covered under warranty. Now when I brought my car in to another shop they are telling me those same parts need to be replaced again. When I contacted kost about this they would not acknowledge what they did on the car and the fact that it was covered under warranty. They kept on trying to find away to make the part warranty come up void and that I couldn't use it. Don't come here! They will rip you off. We came here for an inspection last year and they charged me 100 dollars to put on two new wipers on my truck. What the hell is that. read more

Made an appointment for 8:00 AM for tires and an inspection. Went 3 days before to discuss and confirm and give them time to have the tires delivered. Arrived before 8 and was told the tires were not there. Offered another tire that had to be picked up at another location. Told they would do inspection in the meantime. They did not touch my car for 1 and 1/2 hours. finally Asked and was rudely told that they had 8 AM appointments. Mine should have been one. Took over 2 1/2 hours for this appointment. Wasted my time. In the meantime they took care (in and out) 5 other customers. I will never go there again. read more

Great service, and great people! I dropped my car off with no appointment on a Friday afternoon and they had assessed the problem before I made it home. They were able to fix the issue and service the car within 2 hours. Excellent customer service and execution. I recently moved here so I made my decision to take the car here purely on reviews, and they were right, this is the place to go. I never post reviews unless it is really bad and this is one of those times. Took my car in for an oil change, sat for over 2 hours just for them to tell me I needed two front tires. Said ok and was on my way. Car was fine the first day, the second day started making a strange noise from the front end. Called them and they told me it was probably my wheel bearing but they didn't have a press in the shop and I would need to take it somewhere else, referred me to Monroe. Got the quote from Monroe for 350$ and said screw that I will do it myself. Got home jacked the car up and went to take the axle nut off the car only to realize it was hand loosened already. Now I could blame this on the fact that maybe somehow (even though extremely unlikely) the axle nut came loose on its own ExCEPT the axle nut is held on with a cotter pin for added safety. This leads to me to believe that KOST loosened the axle nut so it would give the false appearance that the bearing was bad. This would also benefit them because the tires wear unevenly with the axle nut loose. So I tightened the nut up and guess what? No more noise. Don't take your car here. Simple service takes too long and by the looks of it they are pretty crafty at making your car seem to have problems that it doesn't. Would have been smart of me to mark the old bearing, take it to Monroe and have them "change it" and then took it back off to see if they actually did. They also overcharge for parts to help cushion the bill. Basically they prey on people they don't think are mechanically savvy. If you're reading this KOST, I will be back in or I'll send a friend in and go over your work when the car gets home. And next time it won't be an anonymous review that you receive it will be me in your face telling all your customers to leave while they still have their shirts. read more
