We popped in on a busy Saturday before the start of a Crew match AND a Blue Jackets game. The area was super busy. Nice Tinis, goyza, and rolls. The Tuna was a bit tasteless though. Excellent service.

This restaurant is a little tucked away but worth a visit. It was a chilly night so I wanted something warm and this meal hit the spot. The miso soup was rich in flavor and the hibachi plate was pretty good although the shrimp were pretty overcooked. The sauce that came with it though was super delicous. I also ordered some eel and sadly by the time it got to me it was quite cold. It seemed like they only had one server for the whole place so the sushi bar got backed up with orders a lot.

What a fun little sushi spot!!! Here for a convention and our Uber driver actually told us about this place, said it was one of his favorites! The place is definitely a hole in the wall gem, walking distance from our hotel and downtown. They have a full bar and wine, beer, etc. The ambiance is fun and Korean themed. They have super fresh sushi, and their rolls were amazing too! We had their 2010 roll and some other "basic" rolls and they were great. The nigiri and sashimi was killer. They have toro tuna and the yellowtail sashimi was so fresh and yummy! If you order multiple rolls they actually bring all of them out at once rather then by each roll and I actually really liked it this way so you can try everything!!! Also had their house wine and it was pretty good for its price!!! Pricing all together wasn't too bad either so we will definitely be back next year!!!

Some of my favorite rolls! Red, white and boom roll, misty roll, eel and cucumber roll, sweet shrimp nigiri and red snapper nigiri

Honestly--I love Kooma. Tucked around the corner from High Street, this little sushi spot always offers super fresh sushi, delicious Japanese food, and an overall huge menu for anything you're craving. It's never too busy (which is a good thing for customers, maybe not a good thing for them), but they seem to never be overwhelmed by the amount of people or orders. I love sitting at the sushi bar and watching the orders being made. I absolutely recommend this place. 100%.

It was a fun experience going here for the first time with a girlfriend on a slow week night. Upon entering, it has a simple dark interior with somewhat of a 90's feel, almost like a sushi restaurant on the set of Friends. We were seated quickly and served attentively by a classic guy who was also pretty Friends-worthy. He seemed like a career server that could make his way in any fine restaurant in the world, very professional and timeless. Not overly friendly or too casual, subdued in a way that allowed the restaurant to stand for itself. We ordered soup with shumai that was perfectly delicious. Dark bowls made the shumai stand out and the plating looked elegant. Flavor was authentic and mild. The 2 specialty rolls we ordered were definitely good and up to par with all of the best sushi in Columbus, but it's not quite at the top of my list, though I would be happy to have sushi here again if any other friends asked me to Kooma. I would also like to try some of their hot dishes. I will say that pricing is not that obvious on the rolls and I thought a couple of them seemed a little high when we determined what they were. The house hot sake was satisfying though :)

I ordered two rolls, quality was on par with other sushi restaurants in the area but the rolls were incredibly small for the price.

For my birthday, I was happy to try this place out since this location was close to home. Columbus is slowly becoming the place for all things foodie and geeky and I love that for us! This place is located on the 1280 W 5th Street and Northwest Blvd. There is parking in the front, and the restaurant is small and cozy. The seating is for parties of 4 to 5 but arrangements can be made so talk to a server. The menu offered everything from drinks, small place to ramen and I wanted to try more. We got the salt and pepper shrimp, the Kyushu Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Hot tea and Takoyaki for a group of 5. Everything was piping hot and delicious and lightly seasoned to bring out the flavors of the overall dish. The servers were sweet and extremely helpful for explaining what things were and me, being a ramen nerd, could sit back and relax. I got the Kyushu Black Garlic Tonkotsu. It was so GOOD!! I love the taste of black garlic and the umami in the dish was so pleasant. The noodles were chewy, and the pork slices were so tender. The Tendernism! IYKYK. 5 stars for a great birthday meal that did not break the bank. Well, my friend covered my bill. :)

We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.

The food comes out pretty quick considering they are making the sushi by order. I love their sushi options. Midway through my meal, they came around to light a candle at the table, which added such an intimate touch, and gave cozy date night energy in the best way. In fact, I believe I was sitting next to a couple having their first date. 2. Plating (4.5/5) The presentation did not disappoint. Everything came out looking polished and thoughtfully arranged. The edamame stood out because they generous with the flaky salt, which I personally loved. Sometimes places hold back, but this was well seasoned. 3. Customer Service (2.5/5) This is where things started to fall apart a bit. I stood at the front for about 12 minutes before being acknowledged, and the restaurant was nearly empty. I had to make eye contact with someone in the kitchen just to be seated. Service at the table wasn't much better. It took about 15 minutes just to get my drink order taken (which I had to flag the waitress down to order), and by that time I was ready to order my whole meal. I ordered an appetizer along with a couple of sushi rolls and some sake. I'm not sure if the waitress wasn't thinking about it, but she brought my rolls out before she even brought out my appetizer or my drink. The inconsistency was noticeable and took away from the experience. 4. Overall Taste (4.5/5) The food absolutely carried! I ordered a sweet potato roll and the Hoonie Roll, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal. Both were fresh, flavorful, and really well-balanced. Paired with the edamame and sake, everything came together nicely. 5. Overall Experience (3.9/5 ) Taking everything into account, the experience lands just under a 4. The food and atmosphere were strong, but the service created a noticeable disconnect. It's definitely one of those places where you'd go back for the food, but you'd hope the service catches up next time.
