While staying nearby, we noticed this little ice cream and food shop and decided to stop in. We're so glad we did! They offered several Blue Bell ice cream flavors, including a few I'd never seen before. As soon as I spotted the Banana Cream Pie flavor, I knew exactly what I was getting. Served in a fresh waffle cone, it was absolutely delicious! The creamy banana ice cream with pieces of vanilla wafer throughout tasted just like the classic dessert. In fact, it was so good that we came back the very next night...and I ordered the exact same thing again! The staff was incredibly friendly and worked nonstop. Despite a steady line of customers and what seemed like over a dozen to-go orders, they kept everything moving with a smile. There's something special about finding a small, local spot like this. Great ice cream, friendly service, and a relaxed roadside atmosphere made it the perfect place to end our evenings. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area! I snapped zero pictures. Came back again to order lunch. I called ahead since I was staying a few houses away and was on the beach. Placed my order and then walked over about 20 min later. I ordered the 9 inch Island Cuban, which is mojo marinated pork, ham, Genoa salami, Swiss cheese, onions, and fresh pesto sauce on their homemade Cuban bread. It is pressed and served hot and ready!! Just steps from the beach and off on its own in a less commercial part of Indian Rocks Beach, this little ice cream and hotdog/sandwich shop shines. The staff is always super kind and friendly, there is so much ice cream to choose from, and their grilled hotdogs on grilled buns are so good. They come with a bag of chips and are the perfect pre or post-beach snack. Lately, we've been adding a canned sangria to the mix. The back patio with the beach breeze is my favorite. I'll "bury the lead story", by starting with: Kooky Coconut is a small cute shop on Gulf Blvd, the main street in Indian Rocks Beach FL, just a block from the beach. They have "the only shell shop in Indian Rocks Beach", with all sorts of trinkets and souvenirs. We had ice cream cones, one with luscious toasty toasted coconut, and a vanilla with big sweet cherry pieces. The real headline here? Kooky Coconut makes a great Cuban Sandwich. We come here pretty often. We love their "Tampa" version: Roast pork is marinated in a traditional mojo sauce mainly of orange, lemon, lime, plenty of garlic, some mint and oregano. It's tender, a little sweet, and very flavorful. It's sliced thin and layered with ham, Genoa salami, and Swiss cheese. And the sandwich is pressed and crispy-toasted in fresh handmade Cuban bread. Very rich! They brag, and we agree. This was again delicious, and it's our go-to, and in part that's because their smaller 4.5-inch Cuban is only $7.25! You can get up to a 12-inch for $16. (Jan 2026). They have a variety of Cuban-sandwich spinoffs including an Island version with mojo-marinated meats and pesto sauce, a Chicken one and a Chicken & Pesto, and even a Reuben Cuban with corned-beef, sauerkraut, Swiss-cheese, & reuben-sauce! They make burgers, veggie-burgers, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, bowls, veggie versions of those, chips, guacamole, hot-dogs, and even crab-cakes! They have shakes and malt-flavored malteds, floats and smoothies, soft-drinks, beer & wine, hot-chocolate, espresso, coffee, decaf, affogato ice cream with espresso, almond-milk, coconut-milk, and good rich ice cream, sherbet, and sundaes, too, in around 20 flavors. When we went this time (Jan 2026), we ate at their umbrellaed tables where we could see the sunset sky. There's outdoor seating for around 45, indoor seating for maybe 8 more, and parking for about 8 cars for their customers. They don't have any extra parking for a walk on the beach, even if you bought something, so please don't do that to them. Don't worry. There is beach parking nearby, and there's a $5-per-day trolly between Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach that stops half-a-block away. Look for the bright sun symbol on a round blue sign. You could eat here under $12, every day for a month, and never get the same thing twice! And they have really nice staff making and serving all this delicious fare. Man I love this place. Been coming here every summer for the last 20 years. The ice cream is just so refreshing during a beach day. The flavors are always so unique and reliably tasty. The only thing I'd say could better is having more people working. Every time I go it's 1-2 people working and it takes a while for them to make their way through the queue of people since they can really only handle working on 1 order at a time, especially if there is a hot food request. read more

The staff is warm and inviting. We all had Tampa Cubans which were perfection. The ice cream was yummy with a nice selection of flavors. The only drawback was one of the indoor ceiling fans was not working which made it very very warm inside to eat. Management should really repair that. Right next to Kooky Coconut is usually our go to for parking on Indian Rocks Beach. But Kooky Coconut actually has its own parking lot and you can't park there for the beach but the parking is adjacent to it. Kooky Coconut is always busy for a good reason. They have everything. I think it's popular for ice cream, but they also have coffee, other drinks, milk shakes, snacks, sandwiches, tacos, & bowls just to name a few. I was lucky enough to order my Island Cuban sandwich right away. But it did take a while to make. There is a sign I saw after I paid that it takes about 15-20 min. I think it took at least half hour. I forgot how long it took after I had this sandwich. The island Cuban sandwich has pesto. Def diffferent than a usual Cuban sandwich. It's nice and crunchy and flavorful and warm. It was quite impressive. Definitely a good portable bring to the beach sandwich. It comes with your choice of chips too. There are a few tables inside with nice a/c and a restroom, or an outside back patio, or walk to the beach and bring your perfect sandwich. Happy I finally tried it. read more

Stopped by for lunch and walked into the kooky coconut which is basically a very small shack looking building about 30 yards from the beach. It 100% fits the beach island vibes and with their menu and ice cream selection I would say it fits the needs for most people. With that being said, we ordered cheeseburgers, burritos, burrito bowls and a tampa cuban for lunch. (they also serve ice cream for dessert) The staff inside comprised primarily of young college aged kids were super polite, walked us through the ordering process and made sure we got everything we needed. The absolute star of the show was the Tampa Cuban. (A standard Cuban with Genoa salami on it) The sandwich was hot, bread was crispy on the outside while staying soft on the inside. Ingredients melted together very well and the flavors were spot on and that disappeared quick. Unfortunately, thats where the flavor party ends. The cheeseburgers reminded us a burger you get that fair. Does it do the job? yes, but its nothing special and under-seasoned. The burrito and burrito bowl (both chicken) had absolutely no flavor. The chicken seemed like it came out one of those freezer bags and then warmed up for the burrito/bowl. Beans didnt seem seasoned and the yellow rice again, seemed like it was prepackaged. The ice cream we got was good, but as far as ice cream goes, there are other spots on the island that you can get the same thing at. I think if you are staying right there, this is a good option for some quick grub/ice cream, but other than that, pass for us. read more

This place is a must if you're visiting Largo/Indian Rocks Beach, we talk about it for a month before we even get there. The Tampa Cuban is the best Cuban I've ever had. You have to try the toasted coconut ice cream too. It can get super busy around peak times so try to sneak in when it's less busy. Right off the beach/main strip. Awesome spot! read more

I love a great sandwich! And kooky coconut has them! I visited after a day at the beach. It was a 4 minute drive from where we parked at the beach. Additionally this restaurant does have their own parking lot do if you were concerned that's not something to worry about. You can stay parked there as long as you are patronizing the restaurant but you can't leave it there if you decide to go to the beach. The service was quick and smooth very easy system for ordering and getting your food. There is inside and outside seating but we sat inside to avoid the rain. I ordered a pesto chicken which was good. I would have liked a bit more pesto but I have no other feedback besides that. The bread was great the cheese to chicken ratio was very balanced. My friend devoured her cuban so im going to say it was delicious. The inside is small and quaint but so Floridian. Beachy and seashell decor make the ambience very appealing. This place is exactly what you expect from a local beach snack shack. Nothing fancy, feel like you can walk in with your flip flops and not be judged. Food was wonderful. A bit on the steep end for a local "snack shack" type place but anymore everything is expensive. Service was good. Sandwiches were 4/4. Drinks 3/4. Not overly friendly but prompt and attentive. I came here for a late breakfast/lunch. I was immediately welcomed by the friendly staff. I ordered their 'Chicken Pesto Cuban', it is made to order so you wait for them to make it fresh. I waited about 10-15 minutes for the sandwich to be made. It was delicious. It was nice and warm which I loved, the melted cheese combined with chicken and pesto was perfection. The sandwich came with chips too. I would like to come back and try their ice cream, they had a lot of unique flavors. The place is cutely decorated with local artists paintings that you can buy. Driving in the parking a little small and there's barely anywhere to turn around but after a spin around the block a spot opened up, walking in the place itself it's kinda small it's a bit cramped and you gotta watch where you step, but it's fine too the place gives a vintage food shack by the ocean vibes. I ordered the 6" Tampa Cuban and I liked that it came with free chips. The service was quick, the price was a little higher than expected though. We were blown away by the Tampa Cuban sandwich! We decided to just order the largest size (12 inch) for $14.25. The sandwich was perfect to share, they sliced it into 4 pieces making it super easy to eat. I would have given this place 5 stars for the sandwich alone but the service was a little on the slow side. You also get a lot of people coming in with just their bikini since it's near the beach. There aren't too many tables to eat inside but there are additional covered spots outside. We loved that Kooky Coconut has their own easy parking in the back. Great spot to grab a Cuban sandwich and go, just expect to wait 15 minutes or so for them to make it. read more

Great place for ice cream after the beach. It's a fairly small place and staff are very efficient getting people through the line. They serve Yoder's ice cream as many others in Florida so the typical flavors are available, but their selection is pretty vast, definitely something for everyone and I was impressed the had affogato too. We've been long overdue for a return trip and finally made it happen. We popped in for lunch and enjoyed our sandwiches in their outdoor seating. I went for the Ruben Cuban which had great flavor. The portion size was ok and would have loved to have more of it. My husband went for the Tampa Cuban and that sandwich offers the chance to select the size you'd like to enjoy. This was perfect to ensure he had enough food for his appetite. The counter service was friendly and the wait for our food wasn't bad given how busy they were and the small size of their operation. Definitely seems like a hole-in-the-wall place. Not much parking and just a few outside tables. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was so good. Cubans were great, and the dip for the nachos seemed so simple but was strangely very tasty. Even the ice cream was excellent. We found out it comes from one of the Amish places in Sarasota, which is the kind we get already - it's just better ice cream. We were even able to get a fresh coconut to drink, which was nice. Ok this might sound like hyperbole but this place has one of the better Cuban sandwiches I have ever had, like top 5. On their "Tampa Cuban" you get all of the ingredients that makes it traditional but they were able to get them warm and fresh tasting in every single bite, and the bread was properly pressed on that plancha leaving a nice crispy exterior to bite through. This place in general is no frills, nothing is extravagant but it's exactly what you need, some indoor seating with a cold AC, two unisex bathrooms, a bunch of outdoor seating with shade, and friendly staff that do their best to serve you quickly. I took my kids after a beach day and they enjoyed their meals, the on-premises parking is a life saver and their ice cream selection is top notch, even local beers can be had by the can for around $5 which is great. It's affordable, good food when you need it, I'll be coming back the next time I'm at IRB. read more
