Bakewell tart and a cup of Earl Grey
    Gemma G.

I really liked this place in it's previous guise as Temptation, and I guess I was expecting something similar when I popped in today. Although they do coffee and cakes, it seems that Kooks is now more of a bistro come restaurant, and the menu does look tasty if nothing out of the ordinary. However, on this occasion, I was just here for a cuppa. The staff were very welcoming on arrival, and I ordered an Earl Grey and a slice of Bakewell tart which they brought over to the table. The tart was reasonably tasty but I little dry, I'm guessing it was yesterday's. My biggest complaint however was the fact it was so cold in there. I, like fellow customers, was unable to remove my coat, and even fully dressed I still shivered my way through my cake, even the hot tea failed to warm me. I know it's cold outside at the moment, but they really need to sort out the temperature in here. If I had ordered food from the menu, I know it would have been cold before I had the chance to eat it. I will come back to try out the full menu, and hopefully it will be a little warmer on my next visit, but I may bring my winter woolies just in case!

This is a cool newly opened restaurant in Brighton, the staff here were extremely friendly and helpful as myself and my friend were running very late for our booking which was kept for us for a whole hour. The menu is small but still has a good few possible options I would of been happy to go for, to start I had the battered haddock thingys which were probably my favourite part of the meal. For the main I had to burger which was nice and my friend had the steak which was also nice. The meal was good value, the burger wasn't the best burger Iv come across in Brighton but was still tasty. We finished with cocktails which were delicious too. Really nice place to grab a nice meal With lovely staff, good music and good value too.

We went here for lunch earlier in the week in a group of 7. We hadn't booked and the very friendly staff happily shuffled some tables around for us to fit us in. As it turned out they were two members of staff down which meant the service was slow but hardly the staffs fault and they were very apologetic and still attentive which was great. The starters were fantastic, everyone cleared their plates, the sides of pork squares deserve a particular mention as does the haddock a shreds. Delicious. Most of us went for burgers as main courses and the burger melted in the mouth. I haven't had a burger with quite this texture before. It made a nice change but still not quite there to take my fave Brighton burger title. One downside was the bun fell to pieces which made it pretty messy to eat (this is one of my main gripes with a burger). Due to the take taken to get good we didn't have time for desert which was a shame as I'm sure they were good. Great staff, great food, will Defo be back when hopefully they will be fully staffed.

Really great spot for healthier salads with copious options. I stopped in for lunch one day, and…read moregot their 1 main + 3 salads (£11.50 for eat in, £10.50 for take away). They had about 10 salads to choose from, most of which were vegan, and a bunch of mains, two of which were vegan. For the main, I got a decadent butter bean dish that was wonderfully flavoured, albeit quite oily. The salads were all quite intensely flavoured too, with a broccoli salad that had a nicely horseradish-dominant dressing, a tomato and bell pepper salad that was nicely dressed, and roasted sweet potatoes. Very filling and good value. I was really happy with the food. I capped off the meal with an American (£2.40), which was definitely above average for UK -- seems like the place is run by Italians, so that might be it. Super friendly and helpful staff who kindly pointed out everything that was vegan. All in all, highly recommended spot near the centre and beach.

I walked past and happened to notice the sign out the front advertising an all you can eat lunch for £6.95 per person. If that wasn't enough of an arm twister, the food on display in the window looked AMAZING! Today's hot menu offerings were vegetable soup, beef goulash, vege moussaka and Caribbean chicken drumsticks with mash or rice. And then a gorgeous array of 7 fresh salads to compliment your meal. Fresh, fast and tasty! This quiet and cosy restaurant had super lovely staff, and the food was just fantastic. Great little spot for lunch on North Street.

It was my last night in Brighton and I had done loads of research and came upon this place, it's fairly new so not too many locals new about it but I decided to give it a try. The service was a little slow, one guy working but the food was way too fucking good. You have the option of wings with different sauces or fried chicken burgers. THEY ALSO HAVE VEGAN OPTIONS. I decided to order the Hot as Cluck burger with Fried Potato skins & 2 sauces. WOW.... I'm not even sure if I can use my words to describe how good this was. The thigh fillet was so juicy, moist and flavourful, the coating was crispy but the breading was evenly spread. It was topped with pickles, lettuce, & spicy chipotle slaw. As a side I got the fried potato skins... fuck French fries - these were insanely good. They were fully cooked, had a great crisp to it and a bit chewy. They were seasoned perfectly. I also decided to get 2 of the homemade sauces. The Thai basil & jalapeño creamy sauce and the Sweet Soy & Ginger. They were perfection. The Thai basil went great with the potatoes and I would splash a bit of the soy on the chicken burger. Now the most important part is after I had finished I didn't feel gross, I didn't feel as though I had eaten junk food! That's called quality right there. Please check this place out! Keep Eating, Angela
