Small, cool, unassuming, and a little tucked away. Definitely one of those IYKYK restaurants. Sat at the bar and immediately knew I was in the right place. The natural wine selection is fantastic. The wine program is on point. We ordered a few things to share. The oysters were excellent, super fresh, and they had Porthilly Rocks, which is always a good sign if you know oysters. Everything that came out was just simple food done properly. Nothing overcomplicated, just really good ingredients and a kitchen that clearly knows how to cook. You can also tell this is a real culinary crowd kind of place. Not a tourist trap. The place felt abuzz with aficionados. Brighton has a number of good restaurants, but Plateau stands out. So many great restaurants having an affordable menu which you may not always get a chance to dine at. We dined from Plateau's autumn set menu. For starters, I opted for the cured salmon, apple, fennel and lemon. It was so delicate and fresh. The salmon, slightly salted REALLY really played with the flavours of the fennel and apple. A great light starter, my dining partners opted for the pigs head croquette, and though they said delicious, it was a lot going on. For mains, I had pumpkin risotto with walnuts and my favourite Barkham blue cheese. It was so creamy! I always feel a little miffed when the veg option is a risotto but this was very very tasty. Onto more cheese.. dessert! I went for the Spenwood and quince. Spenwood is a pressed sheep's cheese. We also ended up getting a cheeky little blackberry cheesecake as well. This was a cheesecake from heaven! Definitely recommend.

As I sat down to drink my delightfully abrasive cappuccino (£2), I couldn't help but notice how many of the Mange Tout customers were tucking in to a generous sized bowl of moules et frites (mussels and chips to you and I). While not much of a mussels fan, I certainly am a fan of Steak, and just so you know, it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. Certainly a brilliant lunchtime spot for anybody looking for a well cooked continental meal.

There are so many interesting restaurants to choose from in Brighton, that when walking around lazily, we really waited for something special to catch our fancy. As it was so hot, we found ourselves walking right along the main street by the seafront, and passed The Arrogant Frog. They had cute wooden tables and matching chairs outside, but two things caught my eye: the words "cocktail" and "menu" in quick succession. The Arrogant Frog (fantabulous name, admit it) runs a happy hour from 3-6pm during the week, and also sometime on Saturday. Cocktails and food from the bar menu are half price. As their prices are already reasonable, this is a great deal. There are over THIRTY cocktails to choose from. That's right, 3-0. And try them, I did. My husband, not really the SATC cocktail type, drank Coronas for £1.25, beerhead heaven! My cocktail favourites include The Banana Batida, a sweet, banana (duh) flavoured drink, The French 76, a fantastic vodka sour topped with Champagne, and the Sergeant Pepper, a fun mix with Pepper-flavoured vodka! Avoid at all costs The Last Word, a sickly, green sweetsweetsweet drink that gives you a sugar-studded immediate drunkeness that isn't pleasant! The service here was very good, and our kind French waiter stopped and chatted with us, and practiced his English on us. We had salad, bread and mushrooms from the bar menu, and all were freshly prepared, with excellent flavours, and small, delicate touches (spicy, salsa verde vinaigrette on the salad, ginger seasoning on the mushrooms) that thrilled the palate. We loved The Arrogant Frog so much, we went back three times whilst we were in Brighton! There was a conference of 6,000 civil servants in town, and the few that we spoke to said that The Arrogant Frog was one of their favourite places in Brighton, as they came every year for the conference. It tasted good, but it was a lot of bread for one person and I missed some vegetables. I had a little cheese on top of it and poured some of their kethup on, not bad actully, despite the fact of veggies lacking and the insane amount of bread. My better half said that his fries were the best he had in Brighton. I did not try them, but he referred to them as crisp and nice. They had some rosemary planted outside, but I dont think that would go too well with my bacon and ketchup, so the plants are still there (even if some green stuff would have been lovely on my sandwhich). The bread was good by the way, but I had to leave more than half of it. Other itmes on the menu looked good as well from what I could tell. They have some wines, some beers and nice coffee as well. From what I saw through the windows, the inside area looked well planned out design wise with wooden tables and chair. Price wise I guess its a little over average, but for a quick meal and a coffee, very manageable. Service was quick and nice. If ever in Brighton again, I would not hesitate to sit here for a couple of hours, sipping some cider and wathing people walk by. (Pardon any errors, English is not my first language).

It's latest reinvention is as Grow 40 and when other lunch spots were full, Grow 40 could offer us a table so we jumped at the chance. We were seated upstairs right at the back which is a very informal area, maybe better suited for coffee as opposed to lunch, but cosy none the less. There were four of us, plus the little man, so it was a bit of a squeeze around the small table, but we managed with a bit of juggling. As is the current fashion, Grow 40 favours local, independent produce, but unlike many other restaurants, they actually grow some of their own produce on their roof garden. Unfortunately, they don't have highchairs which meant it was a little difficult for me to eat my lunch while balancing a inquisitive one year old on my lap. It's quite unusual in family-friendly Brighton to find a restaurant that doesn't cater well for small people, and the lack of facilities was a surprise. I ordered a burger, and I have to say it was one of the best i've had a in a long time. Moist, flavoursome, well seasoned and tasty. The fries were a little salty but were also tasty. My partner had the fish and chips and was also very impressed - the fish was very fresh and not too oily. Our dining companions had the chorizo open sandwich and seemed to enjoy. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the vibe here is nice. I would like to try their breakfast menu as it features both lobster and champagne! They have a private members wine club which sounds intriguing but something I probably won't get to try out for a few years now! My only complaint is the lack of children's facilities. I'm not expecting toys and a kid's menu as it's not that kind of place, but changing facilities and a highchair should be available.

Its a fair walk from the center of town but well worth the trek. Its a gastro pub as it should be in my opinion; non pretentious, friendly and comfortable. The whole place has that Parisian bistro feel which I love. The place recently won a 'Bib Gourmand' award - so when my starter, trio of paortland crab with crab souffle, crab bisque & hot crab toast arrived I knew why. It was presented on a black slate tile which looked amazing and tasted even better. For the main I went for the haunch of venison which can sometimes be a touch too gamey but it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had starter and main each, a bottle of white wine (plus a glass of red with my venison) and coffees (mine was Irish) and the bill came to around £75. All Gingerman restaurants give you a stamp on a reward card for every £25 you spend though, once you fill up your card you get a two course meal for one to use at any of their places. The food is not a long way off Michelin star quality in my opinion so I think its extremely reasonable here.

The bistro offers Duck Confit, Braised Lamb Shank, Smoked Fish Platter.... i think you get the idea. As usual being a massive cheese fiend i went for the Baked Camembert with Truffle Oil (OMG) and Brie, Goats and Broccoli Rosti (OMG OMG). Both were absolutely fantastic. Great for a first date, not so great for small children. Its not as scarily priced as you might think with the most expensive main at £13 when i went. They also sometimeS do a mid week deal of 3 courses for £14.50, which cant be bad can it?

Housed in the the New Steine Hotel, it wouldn't be an obvious choice either but I'm lucky someone filled me in. The decor is very continental, with banquette seating, crisp linens and soft furnishings adding to the feeling of luxury. Ever the bargain hunter, I generally visit here during the week when you can enjoy a 2 course meal for £12.50, although at the weekends it is only an additional £4. For the quality of dishes they offer this is a remarkable price I might add. Inventive dishes like Skate Wing and Chorizo Salad or Duck Confit (on a bed of lentils and pancetta) are presented with flair and precision and the waiters sweep dishes and fill glasses with minimal disturbance. No wonder this bistro has won the AA Breakfast and Dinner Award for outstanding quality and service. Book now.

I've tried a lot of patisseries, croissant is amazing, crunchy and fresh even by delivery. I've tried some macarons, it was lovely, very tasty and nice texture, nice aroma! I've tried a tart which was particularly insane and crusty! I've tried a mocha which was not really nice but apart that, I'm never disappointed! If you choose to get delivered, you even have a little macaron as a gift, a lovely touch! I can't wait to order again or to go back to the shop, love it!
