Looking for Jamaica in Saskatoon.. well it's here! I love the Konga Cafe and it's 5 star rendition of being in a Jamaican Paradise but.. you are smack dab in the middle of the prairies. The food is unbelievable, the service is spot on and the vibe takes you to Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios! Probably the most adorable couple running a restaurant ever! Shut. The. Front. Door. So freaking happy that a coworker brought me to this hole in the wall Jamaican slice of heaven! I HIGHLY recommend that you give this place a try if in Saskatoon! The staff, the atmosphere, the food, the drinks - couldn't be better! I looooooved every bite of my spicy peanut shrimp dish and the little cakes of heaven with banana sauce (Jamaican spicy ketchup). And the house made key lime pie was heavenly. Loved the owner - a friendly goofball who at first I thought was a customer in his orange pumpkin shirt (literally). Are you kidding me?! How did I not know about Konga sooner? Visiting Saskatoon to see friends and family is lovely but I find it's lacking in restaurants that are really worth your time and money. However, this is one I'm really excited about and now I can't wait to get back to Saskatoon. I've been to Jamaica but it was long ago enough that I don't really remember the food, so I can't say how authentic the dishes are. And guess what? It doesn't matter because the West Indian Curry Chicken entree that I ate blew my mind. Yellow curry with green apple slices! Brilliant. The rice and kidney beans were good and I was also impressed with the cooked veggies. My meal was so large that my leftovers made for two additional small meals. The Key Lime Pie was almost like cheesecake and while the slice wasn't gigantic, I ended up not caring because it was very rich and filling. Also delicious. I ordered the rum punch and honestly could have downed an entire vat of it. Our server was friendly and cheeky. I really liked her. There were a lot of patrons and I heard rumors that the family is flexible with their hours and will accommodate parties. OH. MY. GOD. This is my new favorite restaurant, possibly ever. I'd never had Jamaican food before and I'm so glad we tried this place!!! My boyfriend and I tried this place out and its a family-style little hole-in-the-wall off the beaten path. The wait staff was excellent (she seriously got a BIG TIP) and the owners were in the kitchen working the magic. We ordered yummy drinks and they spoiled us with a delicious little bonus shooter-drink. Not only that, but I ordered the peanut shrimp curry and it was the best thing I've ever tasted. My boyfriend got the goat and that was excellent as well - you could taste the smokey flavor. The owner came out and schmoozed with us - what a great guy!!! This place blew our minds, from the food, to the waitstaff, to the owners and the fun atmosphere - an all-around great place. I tell everyone I meet to go, they won't be disappointed. Very tasty. You will definitely not go home hungry here. I've had the ribs a couple of times. They are always good. The rice and peas are my favorite sides. Saskatoon is no stranger to restaurants offering Caribbean cuisine..though with a few that have come and gone, Konga Cafe is the only one in the city. The restaurant was busy at the time and looked like the staff was a bit overwhelmed and some were waiting a while for their food. When I go out I usually like to try something that I can't get most times, unfortunately they didn't seem to have my favourite, curry goat. To say the least, I was a bit disappointed and decided to go with the curried shrimp..it was good. They still can't beat my Mom's cooking and no that's not invitation for you to ask me to get her to make something..sorry. I get asked by friends, surprisingly, for a place that serves Caribbean food, I tell them there is Konga Cafe. Konga doesn't deliver and are not open on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday and on the days they are open not past 9 pm..so they've pretty much been SOL. Overall, it has a nice atmosphere with tunes in the background and the buzz of people. If you have that craving to try some of that Creole/Cajun/Caribbean/Soul Food, just take Konga for what it is and go chill, and enjoy. read more

Very welcoming atmosphere and staff. Pleasant and helpful, although they were very busy, the food arrived promptly including fresh hot Johnny cakes. I ordered the jerk chicken which was tender and spiced perfectly, fresh veggies on the side and a bed of rice complemented the poultry. I can't tell what is authentic Jamaican food or not because I've never had it before this. However, the jerk chicken I ordered was nicely grilled and had good flavour. Konga is fun and authentic. The staff is friendly. The place really reminds me of the family restaurants with homemade food we ran into in the Caribbean. The portions are large. I had the goat curry and enjoyed it. My wife had the curry chicken wrap and enjoyed it as well. read more

This was awesome! Real home cooked food and an excellent date night idea. I had shrimp Creole twice now and it was the bomb both times. That lady knows how to cook with love. Disappointing. Given that the Caribbean is the crossroads of where the world's spices and flavours meet, the food here is surprisingly bland and unseasoned. A person shouldn't have to rely on the bottled sauces to provide the seasoning. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. read more

I was often disappointed with many of the restaurants in Saskatoon, finding that they never live up the standards set in other cities. Konga Cafe, however, is quite possibly the best Jamaican food I have ever come across! I feel the need to write a review, since it seems like the kind of place very, very few people know about, yet totally deserves the business. It is a family run business with friendly service. On multiple occasions, I have tried the shrimp dishes served with mind-blowing rice and peas. You wouldn't think that such a simple dish could taste so good, but it does! In fact, when I forgot my leftovers in the restaurant (the portions are large), I was pretty disappointed, prompting my boyfriend to drive me back to pick them up. When I got back, they said they assumed I wouldn't be coming back, so they were thrown away. Then, they came out of the kitchen with a fresh cooked batch of rice and peas for me to take home as an apology!! Completely unnecessary, but an example of the kind of excellent service you can expect to get. In short, I always make a point of stopping here whenever I return to Saskatoon.
