My husband had a reunion dinner here. We were a group of 9 people, including a 3 month baby. The food: Felt like a farm to table restaurant... and it probably was one. High quality ingredients, well cooked and well presented dishes. Everyone loved whatever they ordered. Extremely diet friendly; GF, Vegan, vegetarian.... We ordered the below and loved each item Golden Squid, absolutely delicious GF Spring Rolls, OC Nasi Lemak, this was great, but a bit on the dry side I.e. Not a saucy curry dish. Tasty Asian fusion in Saskatoon! They were quite busy when we arrived on Thursday evening, however only a few minutes to get a table for 3. Tried the ribs and pad Thai as a shared entree, with spring rolls and pot stickers as shared apps. Some nice glasses of wine were welcome additions to the meal and water glasses refilled frequently. Good service all around! Found the ribs just a bit well done for my liking, but tasty sauce. Pad Thai was good and not overly spicy. Spring rolls and pot stickers were both good apps. Think we preferred the pot stickers more. The chocolate ice cream with a sesame-covered fried pastry filled with warm chocolate was very nice end to the meal - not over sweet, and didn't leave us overfull. If you're looking to take someone to a trendy spot with an attractive interior, want Asian food that isn't too adventurous, and you aren't caught up on price, this is a good place to choose. It's hard to rank this place as good or bad food wise. We've been here three times trying to decide how we felt about it, and realized it will really come down to individual preferences. SERVICE The service was the best part of eating here. Staff is attentive, well trained, very polite, and seem sincerely interested in making sure we were happy. FOOD Generally not to our personal tastes, but we can't argue with the fact that this is a very popular spot for a lot of people. The flavors tend to be more gentle, a little too gentle for us sometimes. Rice and noodle dishes are light on toppings but provide lots of rice and noodles. We also feel it caters to Western taste buds, losing some of the uniqueness of Chinese cuisine. To be fair, this might be an excellent compromise for a lot of people who enjoy ethnic foods with local influences. We love their Vietnamese spring rolls: These were amazing. They were a bit more slender then we are accustomed to, but the filling was richly flavourful. The wrapping was perfectly crunchy and chewy at the same time, with dark caramelized parts that just sang in our mouths. This was the best part of our meal. SINGAPORE NOODLES: One of us liked this dish more than the other. This came with a thin noodle cooked enough to have some firmness, fried with spices, edging towards being dry. The flavours were quite nice, though again leaning more towards the delicate side. PRICE The cost of the genmaicha tea really surprised us. The bill for two people having lunch with no alcohol came out to $47 with tip. It was a little higher than we expected, and would be a deterrent for us personally, but if that's not a concern for you, that give this place a try and see if it pleases your tastebuds! AMBIANCE This restaurant has a contemporary stylish interior, a very familiar feel for new restaurants started by young entrepreneurs. As such it attracts young professionals, hipsters and a young-at-heart older crowd. It's very clean and simple, it feels quite nice. I went out for lunch on a Thursday at 11:30 am with a group of 4 others. I called and made a reservation, but it wasn't needed at that time. However, the restaurant began getting quite busy at noon. All of us ordered different items and we were all impressed. I had the Vegan Vietnamese Rice Noodle Soup. It contained jicama broth, Vietnamese rice noodles, fried tofu, mushrooms, baby bok choy, carrot, daikon, shallots, spices, and a wonton-like fried dough. The flavours of the spices with the jicama broth were delicious. I was also happy to find fried tofu in the soup! Our server was super nice and knowledgeable about the menu. It was okay. I thought the spring rolls and the crab rangoon starter were very nice. Also a delicious won ton soup, and I really liked the bok choy in it. The singapore noodles were decent although had very little shrimp, although overall still tasty. Have to say though that for an Asian Fusion place this is one of the most boring curries I've ever had, and I would have chalked that up to "oh well" but one of the servers recommended it as their favourite dish. Maybe if it had a more interesting rice accompaniment. Prices are reasonable and nice staff, stay away from the curry though as it's nowhere near on the level of their other dishes. read more

Had you asked me what I thought a year ago, I would have told you to find a different place to eat. However, I've been impressed the past couple times. Maybe I was just ordering the wrong thing. Not a good spot for an actual gluten allergy or celiac. They have one or two options but the chefs aren't accommodating at all and it comes the way it comes. Most of the gluten free options are fried in the same oil which technically is NOT gluten free. I wish more places would acknowledge and educate themselves on true gluten allergies and offer either only truly gluten free food or not. The food was ok. The waitress did her best but ultimately told me the kitchen wouldn't budge on my true allergy accommodations- so I did without chicken on one of the dishes. My friend got spring rolls and she said they were too greasy. I don't think either of us will be back. Maybe some of the other stuff is good? This place just didn't work for either of us. Truth be told, they had me at gluten free calamari (which is impossible to find anywhere else). By the one we finished eating, he was as impressed as myself. Could not have asked for a more incredible evening. As soon as we were seated at the table which was reserved for us there was water already on the table and we were quickly greeted by an incredibly kind waitress. Throughout the night we saw a few different servers to fill up our waters and assist us, and each one was equally kind and pleasant. When the food came (which we hardly had to wait for) we were blown away. The amount of care that so was so obviously put into the preparation and presentation of the food didn't go unnoticed. It was the best meal I've had in a long time. The environment in the restaurant itself is incredible, and being a vegan, I had no trouble at all finding vegan options as there were designated vegan dishes, as well as vegan alternatives offered on the meat based dishes. I love love love the Odd Couple, it's one of my favourite restaurants in the city! Every time I've been here, we've always been greeted warmly as soon as we came in the door - staff is very polite, knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is great, comfortable, cozy, and the noise level is not too high and conversation is easy. Everything I've tried from the menu has been delicious. My favourite at lunch is the noodle bowl with chicken (it's the perfect ratio of meat to noodles to veggies - I wish it was on the supper menu) and the wonton soup is the best I've had, the Pad Thai is also delicious. Also, the Asian sodas are great! I'd recommend a reservation, as at times they tend to be busy (especially weekend evenings). Keep it up Odd Couple, you are great :) read more

Pro: Beautiful decor with amazing cutlery, and excellent servers. Con: Mall-quality Chinese Food, but triple the price, and twice the salt. 4 out of 5 of my friends who have eaten at this restaurant had highly recommended it; I should have listened to the dissenter. The appetizer sampler had vietnamese rolls (delicious), crab-cream cheese wontons (the crab seemed non-existent), and chicken skewers (spongy, previously-frozened texture). The main courses took a while to arrive; they arrived luke-warm, so perhaps it had just been sitting idle in the kitchen. 1) Bacon Fried Rice: fried rice with chunks of BBQ pork (many fatty pieces), surrounded by 3 whole strips of bacon, and a sunny-side up egg on top. It's like they took mall chinese fried rice and added breakfast food and diced raw green & red peppers, and called it Canadian Fusion. 2) Eggplant: the eggplant was nicely roasted, and had a excellent taste and texture. The dish was topped with extra salty, over-cooked ground pork. And to make it Canadian Fusion, they added diced raw green & red peppers. 3) Gai-Lan with Beef: The gai-lan vegetables were slightly undercooked, and the beef was spongy and tough. However, the worse part was the extremely salty sauce. We also had two jasmine teas, which were very flavourful. But, the tea pot could only hold enough water to fill the two small cups, so we were continually asking for more hot water. Perhaps, the kitchen was having an off-night. Who knows. But if this restaurant thinks Chinese Canadian Fusion means high prices, luke-warm food, lots of salt, diced raw green & red peppers, and bacon & eggs tossed on top like an after-thought, then they do not deserve all the praise in other reviews. But I challenge them to prove me wrong: I might come back in a year and see if they have improved. TLDR: If you like eating Canadian Chinese mall food, and have no experience with eating authentic Chinese cuisine, then this place is for you. All in all, an appetizer sampler, 3 main courses, and 2 teas, the total price was $68. read more
