Wait 6 minutes for a fresh press pot of Kona
Bill S.

This is a small understated coffee bar that people always walk by because the monorail is steps away. Picture this, you've been drinking sucky Florida coffee all week. Your kids want to see characters for breakfast and what they served you is yuckko. If you love coffee, you owe it to yourself to hustle over to the Polynesian hotel and have breakfast at Kona Cafe. No breakfast for you? Didn't your mother tell you it's the most important meal of the day? Fear not weary parent, there's Kona island! I've always known this little tidbit. The first time I ate at Kona Cafe and had the press pot I said, wow! And then the waitress pointed to Kona Island. That was years ago. I always make it a point to have coffee here. Now you don't have to get the $9 press pot even though it's foolish not to, they can serve you a cuppa Kona blend in a single cup if so desired. Kona Island also serves lattes with flavored syrups as well as fresh baked goods. If you're taking advantage of the Disney dining plan, you may use a snack credit for a sticky bun or croissant. As for me? I'm staying this year at the hotel. My wife and adult sons are asleep, I grabbed my Kindle and ordered a fresh pot of Kona. What I can't finish, I have a cup of ice and made my wife a nice iced coffee. That's how you vacation son! Always treat yourself on vacation. If you like to eat candy apples, they're everywhere. They have Starbucks here too but man... If you're a coffee person you owe it to yourself to come here for Kona coffee

Outstanding sushi - probably the best in DisneyWorld or tied with the California Grill. I really enjoy eating here as it is a walk up countertop sushi bar and I have never seen it full and is a welcome oasis from the usually packed DisneyWorld restaurants. I tried the lava shrimp roll and the combo plate and both were fantastic. As I said, the sushi is super tasty here and very well done. I will gladly return in the future.

My friend and I were resort hopping off the monorail resorts and decided to have dinner here. We wanted to try Kona Cafe but they weren't accepting walk ins, so we found a spot in Kona Island. I ordered the tuna poke bowl as an appetizer, which could have been a meal on it's own and the hamachi tuna roll that had cilantro in it, which gave it a nice crunch and bite. I also ordered a drink but I cant remember what it is called but it was amazing. Service was good but a little slow since they have one person covering the whole area. I would definitely come back and try other items and desserts.

Good sushi with quick service. You can order off menu if you keep it fairly simple (e.g. Spicy tuna). Top tip: get a drink from Trader Sam's and then head upstairs for some sushi because the sushi at Trader Sam's tastes like literally nothing. Good seating for couples or small parties, but not great for larger groups because it's a bar setup. If you have a large group I would recommend reservations at the Kona Cafe.

Great little spot in the Polynesian resort! The service was wonderful and attentive. The large sushi combo was filling and very tasty. I recommend this spot for a casual / relaxing meal. It is the same food menu as the larger Kona cafe, and often has no wait at all.

Macadamia coconut tart!

Great for a quick bite and a coffee. They also have sushi! I love this resort! The macadamia coconut tart is very good!

The best restaurant in WDW and never full!

Best coffee I had in Disney! And it was also a great spot to grab a muffin- especially the mocha muffin and blueberry muffin.

Being foodie is a though job to find a good place to try and that will be good on high volume days…read moresuch as Mothers day. My partner surprised me with dinner with the family at Ilume. This place is beautifully decorated and located to enjoy beautiful views of the Disney Areas. Valentina was our server, she was prompt and attentive. Very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to clear any doubts and document allergies accordingly. The food was amazingly delicious from beginning to end. Everything we tried was exceded our expectations. My kids being little sushi connoisseurs went to the bathroom and somehow ended up speaking to the chef about their beautifully curated VEGTARIAN sampler came back with a complimentary plate of each. Even that was amazing. Will definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

A bit of a hassle with little signage to guide guests. When you finally get there, that's when the unique experience starts. Friendly wait stop guided us to our table immediately. We got our orders promptly, it's nice to have the sushi kitchen in the middle of the dining room. The food looks like Art. Everything was presented beautifully. I posted some pictures before my party attacked the plates. We ordered a wide variety of food from sushi to a five Wagyu. This is a high-end/expensive restaurant. Hit me all of my expectations. Would definitely recommend if you want to experience an elevated Japanese menu

Dim lights and couches making it feel casual but yet upscale at the same time. The host and the wait staff was super attentive and great to have, no issues or problems with them. They were very kind and accommodating and super helpful in terms of trying to figure out all allergies and what my child could or cannot eat, but also make adjustments so that she has options. Now for the food! We had gotten the beef skewer and chicken skewers as appetizers and let me tell you they were probably the best meat skewers that I've had in a Izakaya style Japanese restaurant. The steak was so tender and had great flavor, same with the chicken! The sauce was good, maybe a bit too heavy on the sauce but good pairing! 5/5 The tuna flight was . So good and the cuts of tuna was so tender and was amazing, good garnishes on top! 5/5 The rolls, we got a couple Yellow Fever: it was good, I'm not sure if I was a fan of the asparagus but it was good to have every now and then every other bite or so but not every time. It did have a slight kick to it but I liked it. Distinguished Gentleman: was great. The meat was tender and it had good flavor and my kids enjoyed it as a more kid friendly sushi, but I also enjoyed one bite that I was able to sneak before the kids devoured it. Shrimp Tempura roll (specially made for allergies): Standard goodness! I also almost forgot, I had gotten King Salmon nigiri and also eel nigiri, salmon was good! Normal salmon vibes 4/5 but the eel...probably the most disappointing menu item tbh. Tasted like the frozen Asian grocery store eel, just underwhelming and not a little tough. 2/5 wouldn't order again. but Overall, it was everything was great, we had good service and good food! It's a bit expensive but I Would come back!

It's been over 10 years ago which tells you a restaurant surviving this close to Disney that isn't a chain restaurant they have to be good. And they are. Because of recent food allergies I have to be careful where I eat. I wasn't concerned here. They listened attentively and took all of our dietary needs to Hart. They were very very specific who got white and who could eat what when they came to the table to serve serve. It's not some big fancy theme park type restaurant inside but it's nice and clean. I'm still laughing my friends had no idea I had been here and had even told them about it. Oh well, they bought me dinner so I shouldn't complain. The service is excellent, of course they listen to you when you order which is important, the food was hot, fresh, visually appealing as well as smelled incredible. When we were done they were quick to clear away and box up anything that we asked. I don't like too much hovering over a table but I also don't like to have to go hunt down my weight staff. Just the right amount without being annoying or unresponsive. I will definitely come back here again and remind my friends I have been here. Lol

The place hasn't changed... the food is still excellent, the place is still a bit quirky, but lovable. I had the spring rolls, which have always been delectable, and after that the pad thai which was also quite good. About the only thing that I would complain about is the constant in-and-out of delivery drivers, but I get it... the place has to survive, and by the traffic I was seeing easily half of their sales are going out via delivery, so if that is the price we as in-house diners have to pay in order to keep the place up and running, so be it.

The bowl was wayyyyyy too sweet for me. Too much of the sauce. But the rice and chicken were pretty good. The pork belly is grilled and not seasoned much. So added it to the bowl to calm the sweet and it worked well. Overall, this place isn't worth queuing for, but still pretty good considering its location. Solid 6/10 for me.

But every visit, the biggest issue has been the service. The servers come across genuinely rude and seem way more focused on their regular patrons while everyone else gets treated like an afterthought. It creates a really unwelcoming atmosphere that takes away from the experience. They also respond cruelly. And if there's a game on, good luck. The place gets insanely loud, people are yelling across the restaurant, and the patrons can be obnoxious enough that it's hard to even enjoy dinner or hold a conversation. The sushi is solid enough if you're already nearby, but definitely not the sushi vibe I look for.

Great spot for special events and celebrations. Our server was great (wish I could remember his name right now, started with an A and he's been there 10+ years). A seasoned pro. I will say the one downside was we had a very poor experience with the hostess (name started with a Z) and I sincerely hope she is no longer employed with the company, such a poor reflection of Disney. When we arrived, another host was ready to seat us and the other rude hostess (Z) snatched the menus away and said the table wasn't ready. Mind you, so many tables were empty & they were not busy so I'm not sure why she created such a fuss in front of the guests. We did eventually get sat but such a poor way to start off a very expensive dining experience. I later told the manager on duty about this and he did not seem particularly surprised which leads me to believe this happens regularly, but he always wasn't particularly sympathetic, so I'm not sure he cared really. Overall, a good experience minus the interactions with that hostess.
