I went to the Bend at 2 AM on Saturday the 24th. I used to come here all the time pre-covid (7-10…read moretimes). I got checked by the security guard at the front and he seemed very nice. I proceeded to walk inside and I found a seat at the bar and I sat there. There were some people in there and I definitely wouldn't say it was dead, but it also wasn't crazy busy. There was three people working one lady with red shorts and curly hair another lady with blue pants and straight hair and then a short guy. I later seen a taller guy as I was leaving, he was not involved in my experience. The lady with the straight hair and the guy were on the side I was on they kept walking past and at no point seeing if I wanted anything, I know some bars you have to get the bartenders attention instead of them checking what you want so after 8minutes, I attempted to get the female's attention a few times for a few minutes and it did not work (she did serve other people during that time and was having conversation with ppl). Eventually, the lady with curly hair came to my side to make someone on her side's drink. I asked if I could order a drink and she motioned to give her a minute. She went back to her side, made the person's drink, then took some new orders from people and made their drinks and served beers.I waited over 6 minutes. Eventually she came to the side I was on and took the order of the person sitting directly to my right, completely ignoring me. At which point I concluded I was not going to get any service in this establishment and decided to leave after a total of 17 minutes of sitting at the bar and being completely ignored. I try to self reflect and think if I did something to warrant this treatment but I couldn't think of anything. The only thing that makes me feel slightly better is there was a guy sitting to my left that had a cup already and he kept trying to get her attention and she seemed to be avoiding him. I'm not sure if everyone was avoiding him for some reason and I was just unlucky for sitting next to him. I hated the feeling that this experience left me with and I hope no one else has this experience. The DJ was pretty good, even playing a few minutes of Reggae which surprised me. I ended up going to the Seminole Classic Casino and got service as soon as I sat down. The DJ was playing R&B and I ended up tipping him he was so good.

The food was definitely a highlight! We had the jerk pork bites and oxtail with rice and peas, and everything was delicious. The oxtail was especially satisfying, with all the flavors you want in a good Caribbean meal, and of course, we had to finish the evening with their famous bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. Great food, good music, and a wonderful overall experience. Kakoon is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a spot where you can enjoy a meal and music. I would happily return for another night out!

Great vibes, but the food and service were disappointing…read more We visited Kekoon on a Friday night for the YNOT party and had dinner reservations for 9 p.m. It was pouring, so we arrived around 9:20, but thankfully, our table was still waiting. The place was packed, the music was good, and the atmosphere had great energy. Unfortunately, that was the highlight. We ordered two appetizers: shrimp and oxtail egg rolls. The food arrived within about 15-20 minutes. The egg rolls had so little noticeable oxtail that I honestly questioned whether there was any inside. The shrimp reminded me of the bang bang shrimp you can get elsewhere--nothing particularly special. Overall, the food was okay at best. Our drinks, however, took about 45 minutes. During that wait, our waiter didn't even bring us water, and we constantly had to track him down whenever we needed something. Thinking it might be faster to order directly from the bar, we tried that too. No luck. The bartender we approached gave us a look that made us feel like we were bothering her simply by asking for service. Her attitude came across as rude and unwelcoming, and that interaction really left a sour taste in my mouth. There's plenty of parking, but the lot is very dark. As a woman, I wouldn't feel comfortable walking to my car alone with so little lighting. Would I return for food and drinks? Absolutely not. The music and atmosphere were enjoyable, but they didn't make up for the average food, long drink wait, and disappointing service.

One thing I don't like is when I order at a place and no one comes to check in or offer a 2nd round of drinks. But the drinks were super expensive compared to other spots/lounges on the Boulevard. The Smokey old fashioned tasted like it was made with a mixed drink kit and they just had to add water. The drink I got was also pretty watered down tasting and also $16 each. I would have liked to see what else they offered, but I'm not sure overall that it's worth it. Food: I ordered an appetizer of plantains done "tapas" style which were awesome (9/10) and my boyfriend got the skewered steak but for some reason, they had to warn us it's not on a skewer after all and asked if we still wanted it. Well it practically looked like a plate of sides (cut up onions, tomatoes and beef) that someone would build a pita or some kind of taco (3/10). Was not worth $17. Should have come with some bread or starch, but that was extra. Ambiance: Music was fine but again, we were outside so it's hard to tell what it would be like from the inside. I just wish they could price their drinks and meals closer to other places in the area. I could have gotten a HUGE plate of shrimp nachos or 2 happy hour apps or 2 drinks from anywhere else for the price of 1 item from here. Speaking of which, it appears Happy Hour is 2 days or the week? Hopefully they will be a little more active online and I'll have a reason to return....Kwanzaa?? ‍!

I wish I had a picture of her food but the Alfredo was literally dripping wet (in a bad way) and the pasta noodles were very overcooked. The oxtail had more of a ketchup taste and just wasn't for me (or her). My jerk pasta tasted better than hers but still was not worth the price point for me. It was a bit salty and again the noodles over cooked and Alfredo sauce as thin and broken. Additionally, we waited 40 min to receive our order (maybe because it's more of a club than restaurant). All in all I wouldn't return. It just was not worth the price and wait for me.
