Excellent bar located down a small alley in Vienna. They have a large selection of draft beers on tap and a few in bottles. A few of the drafts are their own beer too! The only option for food are flatbreads/pitas but there is a wide selection of items you can put in it. Almost everyone orders the pitas and I know why after getting one! Very tasty and made fresh. There is a large sitting area inside and a small patio outside. Service is quick and the prices are reasonable for Vienna. This was a wonderful place to get fresh pita sandwiches. My family got the garlic curd, ham and mozzarella pita, and the eggs, onions, and bacon pita; both were wonderful. I got the Nutella and banana pita, which was more like a dessert pita, and it was wonderful as well. The pitas were quite large, almost like the size of a personal pizza, so they were pretty filling. Not only were the pita sandwiches delicious, the staff was super nice. While not everyone spoke English, they were genuine, gracious, and sometimes even funny. On a previous trip, 5 years ago we came here twice because we liked it so much. So here we are 5 years later trying Kolar again and we love it just as much as we did 5 years ago. So this place is amazing. A small jewel in the hustle and bustle of downtown Vienna. A bit hard to find down the ally (see photo for front door). The beer is brewed by Kolar the pita are amazing. We went there back to back days and had the Hawaiian, the specials both days and the mushroom, salami with brea. The pita is made, baked and assembled all in their brick over. A real brick over that is wood fired. We can see the cords of wood piled up along the walls. When we arrived there was plenty-of seating, however when we left, hour and a half later, not a seat in the house was empty. Go there have a pita or three and a liter of beer, for us it was the highlight of Vienna. read more

Holy pita. If you are looking for an affordable, hidden spot in Vienna - give Kolar a try. They have menus in English if German isn't your strong suit. It may look closed from the outside (I definitely thought it was and dithered in front of the door like a total idiot for 5 solid minutes before pushing the door in...), but the posted hours are correct. A few local and tried and true beers are on tap. Sip on one while your pita is made to order. While I was there a woman asked the chef if they had any cake to surprise a friend with who was celebrating a birthday. The chef paused and was like... we have pita? I can make a sweet pita? 10 points for flexibility good sir! Board games and blankets chill in the corner in case you're cold or wanna release your inner child. This place is awesome! We came here after seeing an orchestra performance and wanted to get a bite to eat for dinner. It was after 10pm on a Monday night and we didn't have a reservation. We used yelp to find a place that was still open. We would have never found this place on our own since it's off the beaten path a bit. We tried sitting outside, but the outside area was closing in 20 minutes. We were able to get a table inside. The restaurant decor is great! It feels like you are eating in a cave with a wonderful bar and pizza oven. There is an intimate and homey feeling. Our waitress was excellent! We are from the states, so we did not know German very well. She provided us with English menus and was able to converse in English very well. She told us the specials and took our drink orders very promptly. We all decided to order Fladenbroten, or flat breads. We are tried a different one and we're very pleased! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The only downside to eating inside is that the pizza oven makes it a little warm. Kolar is one of my favorite casual restaurants in Vienna. I text my friends to go there so often that my phone autocorrects to "Kolar!" For food, Kolar does one thing and they do it really well: Fladen, or as I describe them "flatbread pizza sandwiches." I've never had a fladen that I didn't like and they even have new daily specials every week in case you get bored. They have vegetarian options if your diet is meat-free and you can request their spicy sambal olec hot sauce if you like your tongue to tingle with fire while you eat. With a cozy tavern atmosphere and friendly waiters, this is the kind of place you come back to time and time again. They have a good beer selection and pour their own Kolar brand zwickl, pils, and dunkel beers to quench your thirst. Sitting at the Pestesaule we were wondering where to grab a beer and something to eat (we weren't hungry though). We also didn't want to spend more than 15 euros... we saw this place and looked good. We walked (5 minutes) and since it looked nice we stayed. Food is the flat breads that are pictured and range from 4-7 euros for a "big" fladenbrote. You can also order sweet (with Nutella for example). It feels like an authentic place and not a tourist trap but still isn't a backpacker haven. I found Kolar on Trip Advisor before my trip to Vienna this past November. It was recommended for lunch or late night. I took a look at the menu and the website and couldn't understand anything! Nothing was in English so I knew this place had to be good and authentic. We stopped at Kolar around 9:30pm after a day of walking around Vienna. We were greeting instantly by the bartender and we were told to sit anywhere we liked. Our server could smell out that we didn't know Austrian so he brought us some English menus. Whew! I started with a Franziskaner beer (although it's German), but it's my favorite and I haven't had it in a hot minute. If you like Belgium beers, I would recommend trying it. It's also served in a 22oz bottle. YES! It paired perfectly with our Fladen. The menu consists of filled pita bread (Fladen)- veggies, cheese, cream cheese and meats. They have small and regular sizes so we decided to split a few. A small size would be decent for one. My favorite one we had was cheese, mushrooms, onions and ham. It paired very well with our beers. There was also a berry cheese one we had that was awesome- it was a part of their daily specials so make sure you ask your waiter what the specials are! The other thing I loved about Kolar was it's charm. The stone and arched walls make it feel very homey and authentic. You can also see the open oven where they cook the Fladen, which was cool. read more

Probably the best place I've eaten at in Vienna! It's hidden in a little alley, so if you didn't know about it, you probably wouldn't come across it. Still, it's right in the city center. The pitas were very good, and there is no shortage of combinations, so even a picky eater is set. They are flavorful with lots of fresh ingredients and a good break from the heavy traditional food. Be advised that the only food on the menu are the pitas. While the food was nice, the other aspects were better. The service was phenomenal! We had no reservation but the waiters made every effort to get us seated (it was crowded, but we still only had to wait about five minutes for a table of four). Our waiter kept checking in on us frequently, and even had to deal with a problematic (verging on belligerent) customer behind us, which he did very well. The prices, well, they can't be beat. A large pita is a lot of food and will set you back less than 8 euros. Also, the outdoor seating makes for a nice atmosphere away from the busy streets. Make sure to visit Kolar! read more

It was a clear yelp solution. We had no idea where to go for dinner and as we'd failed so hard before I decided to give a try to the yelp most rated. It was pretty wonderful. The place is a bit hidden in the lovely and narrow streets of Vienna but the environment inside was pretty awesome. So many things to order, good service and English version for the menus. Basically, the food is a hand-made pita bread with whatever you want into. I had the camembert and onion one and it was delicious. The regular portion is enough for dinner. They serve them in a broad range of different tasts, with various options - sweet, sour, salty, with chees or chocolate, vegetarian as well as with meat, creamy or just hot and spicy, everybody finds its favorite! Sitting on this old historical street in the first district in summertime is absolutely worth spending some time there and enjoying Vienna at night. The street is called after the house owner in 1539 "Kleplat the older" its supposed to be the oldest residential building in Vienna. But also in winter you can find a comfortable and nicely spot in the cavelike folksy somehow a little medieval pub-like inn. I fell in love with this beer while traveling through France, and while I definitely can't find it i the US, it's not super easy to find elsewhere. Yes, I came twice in two days. One thing I really liked about Kolar was that the food was very different from the other food we had in Vienna, as well as being extraordinarily tasty. Imagine all of the pizza toppings you like, and then put it in a pita and fire-grill it. They also have more unusual ingredients and fillings, depending on what you're looking for that evening. Awesome place. One of my favorite's in terms of what is offered and location (they have a few, but this is the coolest) in Vienna. This place makes one of the best beers in Austria, to be frank. Gemischt (mixed) beer and the sweet one are amazing! Awesome tunes, if you like indie alternative bands, and nice rustic feel. My Husband and I spent four days in Wien. I was so overloaded with art and culture (and lots of walking) I had coffee, schnitzel, strudel, fries, and sausages up to here! In a good way. We needed a break, and even with a McD's meal (and they're amazing chicken wings and manner flurry!!!) we just wanted something different. Trusty yelp lured us to this quaint boisterous establishment. Seemed to be teeming with college like students(?) and travelers, just having a good time, a good beer and a good pita. The staff were super friendly and spoke wonderful english (like most of Wien) and the place was toasty because the center of the room is dedicated to the stone oven in which they freshly make their pitas. It was a pleasure to sit at the bar and just people watch! If you asked for an english menu, no worries of feeling foreign- just simply handed to you. You'll definitely want something from it to boot. The pita's are delicious and piping hot! From what I can remember, they often serve seasonal foods. I believe had a ham, white asparagus, and a cheese one. I think my Husband and I split it since they're the size of a dinner plate... and two beers of course. It was a delight and a very enjoyable evening. Super easy to get to and from our hotel via the U Bahn. Puts you right outside near St. Stephen's Cathedral, where you walk right by it and then to the left into this tiny side street that winds down the way, and voila! Didn't even get lost.
