Pita with tomato sauce, salami, onions and cheese.

Kolar was a great little place tucked in down a short alley. Old town Vienna was bustling with many people, so finding this place was an oasis of calm in the busy city. We were lucky to get a table outside (all others were full). The food was great. The bread has a pita texture, but the whole thing is more like a calzone with toppings and cheese baked in what looked like a pizza oven. Highly recommend!

So this place is amazing. A small jewel in the hustle and bustle of downtown Vienna. A bit hard to find down the ally (see photo for front door). The beer is brewed by Kolar the pita are amazing. We went there back to back days and had the Hawaiian, the specials both days and the mushroom, salami with brea. The pita is made, baked and assembled all in their brick over. A real brick over that is wood fired. We can see the cords of wood piled up along the walls. When we arrived there was plenty-of seating, however when we left, hour and a half later, not a seat in the house was empty. Go there have a pita or three and a liter of beer, for us it was the highlight of Vienna.

Great place to grab a quick pita to eat and a few beers! The pitas are around 6-7 euro and beers 4ish for a 0.5L. I tried the Kolar pita. It had garlic curd sauce, tomato, ham and onion. The large is the size of a small dinner plate. Was enough for lunch but I wasn't stuffed. Would maybe recommend two for dinner if you're really hungry. The dark beer was ok, tasted quite a bit different than I'm used to dark beer tasting but it was alright. The pilsner was better.

Holy pita. If you are looking for an affordable, hidden spot in Vienna - give Kolar a try. They have menus in English if German isn't your strong suit. It may look closed from the outside (I definitely thought it was and dithered in front of the door like a total idiot for 5 solid minutes before pushing the door in...), but the posted hours are correct. A few local and tried and true beers are on tap. Sip on one while your pita is made to order. While I was there a woman asked the chef if they had any cake to surprise a friend with who was celebrating a birthday. The chef paused and was like... we have pita? I can make a sweet pita? 10 points for flexibility good sir! Board games and blankets chill in the corner in case you're cold or wanna release your inner child. A fairly small, dark bar, but the pitas are delicious and massive. I got a small and it was the size of my hand and filled with ingredients.

This place is awesome! We came here after seeing an orchestra performance and wanted to get a bite to eat for dinner. It was after 10pm on a Monday night and we didn't have a reservation. We used yelp to find a place that was still open. We would have never found this place on our own since it's off the beaten path a bit. We tried sitting outside, but the outside area was closing in 20 minutes. We were able to get a table inside. The restaurant decor is great! It feels like you are eating in a cave with a wonderful bar and pizza oven. There is an intimate and homey feeling. Our waitress was excellent! We are from the states, so we did not know German very well. She provided us with English menus and was able to converse in English very well. She told us the specials and took our drink orders very promptly. We all decided to order Fladenbroten, or flat breads. We are tried a different one and we're very pleased! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The only downside to eating inside is that the pizza oven makes it a little warm. Other than that, we would definitely recommend this place!

Ham cheese, pineapple pita was delicious.

Great place for a simple meal of pita and beer. Great service, they had English menu and nice cosy environment. Pita is cooked in this brick stone oven.

The fladen of the day had broccoli... Yum!

Kolar is one of my favorite casual restaurants in Vienna. I text my friends to go there so often that my phone autocorrects to "Kolar!" For food, Kolar does one thing and they do it really well: Fladen, or as I describe them "flatbread pizza sandwiches." I've never had a fladen that I didn't like and they even have new daily specials every week in case you get bored. They have vegetarian options if your diet is meat-free and you can request their spicy sambal olec hot sauce if you like your tongue to tingle with fire while you eat. With a cozy tavern atmosphere and friendly waiters, this is the kind of place you come back to time and time again. They have a good beer selection and pour their own Kolar brand zwickl, pils, and dunkel beers to quench your thirst. During the summer, they set some tables along the front and side of the restaurant and you can stare up at some stars or at a twilight sky as you enjoy your dinner. Kolar is rightly popular, so some nights and weekends it helps to call ahead and reserve a table so you don't have to wait.

    Beer Menu... pretty good prices

Sitting at the Pestesaule we were wondering where to grab a beer and something to eat (we weren't hungry though). We also didn't want to spend more than 15 euros... we saw this place and looked good. We walked (5 minutes) and since it looked nice we stayed. Food is the flat breads that are pictured and range from 4-7 euros for a "big" fladenbrote. You can also order sweet (with Nutella for example). It feels like an authentic place and not a tourist trap but still isn't a backpacker haven. Service is ok a bir slow maybe but hey... we werent hungry anyway and food is also ok. But great value... and best of all you can have a beer and chat a while. Free Wi-Fi also helps! Overall great! Totally recommended!

I love places like this: Great selection of beers, awesome service, cool music, friendly happy atmosphere. But the best for me is the fact that they do one kind of dish and do it fantastically well. Fladenbrot or fladenbrot is available. But before you think that that sounds a bit boring there are over 25 different filling combinations to choose from. And let me tell you they are really really delicious. Beware though, this place is ALWAYS full so making a reservation os highly recommended.

Brewery and pita sandwiches ! Who would have known that pairs so well . A local gem that captures Austria. Loved the outdoor sitting .

Nice hidden brewpub with good beers and a friendly service. I have only drunk a beer (Dunkel) but food seemed good as well from looking at the open oven kitchen.

    Preparing the Pita

Great local place. Worth finding. We found this place on our way back to our apartment. When we arrived at 6pm the place was full. We sat at the bar in front of the cooks. Watching them prepare the Pita was awesome! I recommend getting these seats whenever you are here. The food was excellent, server very helpful to us (Americans).

Radler in the courtyard! Good company, good atmosphere, good beer.

It was pretty decent. Hubs had a couple of beers. We ordered the Spicy Chipotle Popcorn Chicken with Chili Dip. It was the equivalent of pub food back home....nothing gourmet, but decent and filling. This pub could very well be a tourist place, but it didn't seem that way to us. It was practically full when we decided to visit, and all the outdoor tables were taken. Inside isn't necessarily small, but it can be crowded, with tables set close together. Service was friendly and efficient, and the prices were ok. I'd stop in again. 46/2025
