Wow what a find. Bars in the 1st district are hard to come by at the best of times but when you are late for a very important football match they seem to be actively hiding away. So thank goodness we stumbled upon this little oasis. There was a large projection screen and 1 or 2 smaller Tvs all showing "the game." Unfortunately it was the wrong game. Fearing the worst we asked the bartender if it would be possible to change the channel and unbelievable he did! One star already! After cooling down and looking around for a minute (we had been rushing around for 20 mins trying to find a bar showing "the game") it occurred to me that this was really a very very nice spot. A real Bavarian bar in the centre of Vienna, all wood, all dimly lit, all friendly, all happy, all beery. Mmmmmmm. Another star! The barman that served us was dressed in Lederhosen and traditional Bavarian shirt and was great. Friendly, quick with a joke, well informed and thank goodness he knew how to pour a "correct" beer! This is the first time in Vienna that I have received a, to me anyway, correctly poured beer. Ok he took 4 minutes instead of 7 but what we received was a tankard full of frothy glory. That counts as 2 stars in my book! And then onto the final star: the locale. There is a centrally located bar with a large bar counter and tables set out along the walls and windows. All fantastically decorated in wood with copper beer handles. Downstairs is a smaller club type room with a smaller bar as well and the toilets which are large and clean. The food menu looked pretty decent too and the beers (albeit mostly lagers and pils) are cold and well served. Overall a very nice find and a very good result too. A great evening indeed!

Loved the different beers at this place, but most of all the Wiener schnitzel! So amazing, the cranberries and potato salad were damn tasty too. Highly recommended...

After several nights in Vienna without having tried schnitzel, I was on a mission to find an…read moreauthentic spot on my last night here. Found this cozy spot a few blocks off the Stadtpark and figured I'd give it a shot. So glad I did. it was pretty packed when we got ther, we were able to get a high top table after just a few minutes wait. Ordered the beef tartare and schnitzel. Be forewarned, they don't skimp on the portions here. The tartare was delicious and came with a salad and about a half of stick of butter, which was interesting. Schnitzel was big enough to feed at least two people and left me feeling like I had finally experienced a real local meal. Wine was also great and made me wish I could have stayed there drinking it all night. But alas, I had an early flight to catch the next day...

Quite tight seating. Restrooms are not accessible by people with limited mobility. No baby changing stations. The food is okay. The schnitzel was fine and so was lamb. Okay to eat but not memorable. Caprese salad was tasty. In conclusion, if you are passing by and hungry, feel free to stop by. If you are looking for a memorable lunch/dinner experience, plan to visit a different establishment.

A Christmas to Remember at Flanagan's…read more There's something about a good Irish pub at Christmastime. The way the warmth greets you at the door, how the low hum of conversation and clinking glasses wraps around you like an old wool coat. That's what we found at Flanagan's in Vienna, a place where Christmas wasn't just a date on the calendar but something you could feel, deep in your bones. We sat down to a Christmas lunch that was everything a holiday meal ought to be, hearty, rich, and made with care. The kind of meal that sticks with you long after you've left, not just for the taste but for the way it made you feel. The Guinness was poured thick and smooth, a dark ribbon of comfort against the winter cold outside. And dessert? The kind that makes you want to loosen your belt and stay just a little longer. But it wasn't just the food. It was the place itself. The way the lights cast a soft glow over wooden tables worn smooth by time. The way laughter and stories filled the air, like an old family gathering where nobody wanted to leave. My son took it all in, wide-eyed and happy, and that alone made it worth the visit. If you ever find yourself in Vienna on a cold December day, stop by Flanagan's. Order a pint, settle in, and let Christmas wrap around you like an old song you almost forgot you knew.
