This was so disappointing. We tried both the sausage and cream cheese kolaches and neither had flavor. I mean this was "do I have Covid" level "I can't taste a single thing" lack of flavor. They ran out of a lot of the flavors of the fruit kolaches fairly early. The employee at the drive through kept pressing us to buy more because of a "deal". Traveling on 45 south to Houston and stopped made a stop at Starbucks right next door. I told my husband to pull in I'd like to try their kolaches. I use to work at Praseks Smokehouse who has fabulous kolaches that uses original family recipes so I consider myself an expert! The kolaches were definitely not original Czech family recipe and the cream cheese in a cream cheese kolache should not have a pudding like texture only the fruit filled kolaches have the gooey tapioca like filling, but the bread was flaky so that was good. The service was horrible though! At the window I asked the cashier for napkins and she simply responded, "ya, there in there" even though I had already looked through the bag and they were not in fact in there, which is why I asked for them. Unless they consider the tissue paper wrapping to be the napkin? We get back on the road only to discover that they didn't even give us our complete order and when I called them to make them aware of my experience with their establishment the young lady who answered simply stated, "oh, we'll sorry 'bout that". Road trip from Houston, TX to Ennis for sunflowers fields. We read about this and decided to stop by. It's located inside a gas station. Go to the left after entering. Staff helped immediately. We had poppy seeds, blackberry/cream cheese, ham/cheese and jalapeno mesquite twist. All fresh and tasty but too doughy. I wish there's more fillings in the fruits ones. If you are country-cruising near Ennis, and want Kolache's or pigs, you don't need to drive all the way to West! Just stop at the Chevron on 34 and I-45! The plain Chevron exterior belies the fancy bakery inside; a tasty bakery cornucopia displayed behind glass, with clean restrooms and every other munchy/snack you need! The food is so bad here, we would not feed it to our dog who was in the truck with us when we picked up our corn dogs and danishes. The only thing fresh, was the paper bag and I bet it would have had more flavor if I took a bite! We definitely won't be making a mistake of stopping by this dump on the way to our favorite camping spot. I would like to get there and Camp without the possibility of getting sick from gods-know-what from the food from this garbage pail. The sad thing is I cannot post a video on this format because you could see how stale the danishes are and how greasy-looking the corn dogs are. The depot proper is in the corner of a gas station. The pastries (and there are a lot of them) are packaged up in the bakery and then you check out at the gas station register. There is a freezer by the door where you can buy more pastries to go. The cream cheese kolaches are the best. I tried a pumpkin-cream cheese combo that was unbelievably delicious! We bought a dozen to go and later I was able to snag a lemon and a cream cheese-raspberry. (Again, buy cream cheese-anything kolaches!) read more

Who would ever guess that a delicious kolache bakery would be hidden in Chevron station? Well, Kolache Depot Bakery is and don't be hesitant to stop in and buy some fluffy, yummy kolaches. I love pumpkin anything year round so of course I started my order off with the pumpkin cream cheese. To that I added cherry, apple, lemon, blueberry and cream cheese. The fruit kolaches have a nice bit of sweetness and the bread has just a slight touch of sweetness yet this combo doesn't make for an overwhelming sweet taste. The bread is also quite soft and fresh tasting. Meat filled kolaches are also sold here but I cannot comment on those since i didn't try any. They did look and smell delicious though. If you happen to be passing through, a stop here for some kolaches is well worth it. read more

One of the only two kolache stops between Dallas and Houston (the other being Broken Star Cafe & Czech Bakery in Centerville). They had surprisingly a great collection of sweet kolaches, and some klobasnek (sausage kolaches), Even though the city of West's Czech Stop is Texas-famous for kolaches, I think I actually like Kolache Depot a bit more. I ordered four things - one klobasnek with sausage and cheese, and one of each - blueberry w/ cream cheese, cherry w/ cream cheese, and raspberry w/ cream cheese. What they do here is that after picking your order, they would neatly wrap two pieces in each paper and then microwave it (nothing wrong with the microwave for kolaches - Czech Stop does this too although their microwave are super charged compared to the standard microwave used here). The result is the soft and pillowing kolaches that are just great to eat. But what really made the difference compared to West Texas are the following: 1) the sausage used is better, which was a nice surprise 2) the sweet fillings in the kolaches are not too sweet as they were in Czech Stop - making these better, in my opinion - the fruit flavors are still bold and great and by no means are they diminished. Great sweet-tasting fruits should not need so much added sugar. The only thing that I would steer away from are the other bakery offerings. I saw monkey bread, and some other stuff - but they felt a bit too condensed and hard. They also sell boxes of day-old kolaches for sale. But I'd recommend getting the ones made on the same day since they're already inexpensive. Save the other stuff for the Ennis folks, since they can worry less about finding a good kolache shop nearby. That being said, I'd be more than happy to stop by for kolaches anytime from this place, even though as a road stop, Corsicana is a far more interesting place than Ennis, Texas. NOTE: Their cute location on Ennis Avenue is long gone. There's only this location inside the gas station. Luckily their hours are great and even at an odd hour, I saw some people munching on their kolaches. No long lines here, thankfully. read more

Saw signs for this place while driving between Dallas and Houston and wanted to stop in because my husband and I like authentic kolaches (not the weird sausage rolls you get at donut shops!). They are located inside a gas station, but that has never turned me off of a potentially great find before. We were excited to see a full case of kolaches even though it was a little before lunch, but we were a little disappointed because they seemed kind of stale. The filling had great flavors and so I have high hopes for fresher kolaches, but they were stale around lunch time and when we tried to finish off the ones we bought the next morning the pastry portion was basically inedible. Fillings we had that were all pretty good: blueberry w/ cream cheese, strawberry, lemon, apple, regular cream cheese. I don't know if they don't make them fresh everyday but we weren't that impressed with the pastry around the filling. Hopefully if you catch them fresh they will be delicious as the others describe, because the filling sure holds promises of yum! read more

I feel like I'm committing a crime by admitting that compared to the kolaches in West these are fantastic kolaches! Are they better than the ones in West? Well I've stopped at each of the kolache bakeries in West and none of them are "better". They are all wonderful in their own ways. It is kind of like asking who's grandmother's recipes are better. Everyone's grandmother has the best recipes because they've been cooking it for years! I will drive to Ennis if I need a kolache because it is only 30 minutes from me compared to an hour to West. I do feel like the staff here tries to upsell me every time I come through, so beware you'll only plan on buying 4 kolaches and you'll leave with a dozen. Which my wallet doesn't have an issue with, but my waistline does! Ha ha, enjoy. read more

Light fluffy dough and nice filling. I would come back for those alone. The gas station has a small parking lot that was super crowded. They do have a drive thru which I might try next time. On our way back to Katy, we saw a sign and stopped at the 1103 E. Ennis Ave. location. It is located inside a Chevron station on Texas 34 (E. Ennis Ave.). This is a great location for a "one stop" on the way up to (or leaving) Dallas. A Starbucks is across the street, as well as nearby Whataburger, Subway, Waffle House, McDonalds, Ice Cream shop and Walmart. I had a blueberry and cream cheese kolache for a snack. The blueberry/cream cheese combination was delicious. The bread was good, but was not sweet like Weikel's in La Grange, TX...which I prefer. The Kolaches here are legit. While they may not be as good as the Czech Stop, they are pretty authentic. We tried blueberry, strawberry, pumpkin chiffon, and the jalapeño cheese. There was nothing left over. One of the other reviewers said something about theirs not being fresh or something. Well, going in at 8:30pm I was not expecting "hot now." A MUST-STOP when on the I-45, we LOVE the Kolache depot. We have been coming here for years, back when this bakery was in a dingy corner of the gas station, with outdoor seating. About 3years ago the service station was renovated to greatly expand the Kolache Depot, allowing for more items in larger bakery cases and a better shopping experience. Mile after mile along our Southbound trip on I-35 we saw signs to come "Czeck" out this kolache spot. What a disappointment. The dough was too chewy and lacked the subtle potato flavor I expect from a good ol fashioned kolache. The kolaches were more like rolls that were cut open and re-baked with the ingredients inside. The amount of meat in each kolache varied and the fruit filled kolache was dough with canned apple pie filling. I asked for a coffee with half and half and sugar, and received some kind of powder creamer or coffee mate. It was nasty. Totally disappointed all around. Best in Ellis County and a lot better (more authenic) than anything in DFW. But still 2nd best to Czech Stop in West. I quite often get over to Kolache Depot (KD) to pick up some fruit Kolaches. Now I gotta admit I've never tried any of their meat kolaches or any of their other foods. I go there for only 1 reason. Fruit kolaches. Preferably without cream cheese. Having had real klobasneks (meat kolaches) in Europe, Nothing in the U.S. even comes close. And what passes for a kolache in Dallas, (the smokie link in a yeast roll) I grew up calling pigs-in-a-blanket. So I eat only fruit kolaches. And love them! KD's are best before noon. For some reason KD's do go stale faster than Czech Stops. 24 hours after baking, KD's are already stale. Czech Stops' are good for 3 days. But KD's taste way better than Slovacek's (also in West). My personal favorite is the apricot. So if you've a hankerin' for some good kolaches and are gonna eat them right away. Kolache Depot is a right nice place to stop and git yerself some. Meh. I've been a fan of fruit kolaches for as long as I can remember. These aren't terrible. The fruit is well sweetened (tried strawberry and blueberries), but they are more dense than the fluffy and lack the sugar topping. We also tried a large Ham and Cheese hot pocket looking thing, expecting to find large bites or slices of ham. This however was awful. The ham and cheese was a mushed up mixture that definitely didn't sit well. I recommend steering clear of anything with meat involved here. Needed to stop for gas, bathrooming, and something to grab for breakfast. Saw the signs on the highway, and decided to give it a whirl. This place is a winner y'all - Chevron, toilets and food. Firstly, read the gas signs carefully. It's 10 cents cheaper than everywhere else....WITH PURCHASE OF A CAR WASH. Otherwise, it is priced like all the other places nearby. Parking lot is tiny and busy - locals in having coffee gives it a homey feel. Restrooms are an A+++++!! Cleanest ever and huge, what a pleasant surprise!! Then the food. OH MERCY! Giant kolaches of beauty, good little variety. We got meat ones, the jalapeno sausage and cheese was my favorite, the mesquite sausage was the second fave but still tasty. The deserts looked fantastic, as did the fruit kolaches and the cream cheese frosting covered cinnamon rolls. I'll be back. I'll be hungry. And I'll be happy again!!! read more

Its not as good as the Czech Stop but its still pretty darn good. The blueberry kolache gets a solid four stars. The sausage kolache is three stars. An unassuming place that looks from the outside like an afterthought in a Chevron station. Unfortunately, we arrived shortly after a tourist bus, so we had to stand in line for what seemed like FOREVER.... but there are a few booths inside to sit and enjoy a break from the car. With all the bluebonnet visitors, there were stacks of pre-packed dozens for discounted prices, I guess resulting from the cancellation of the festival last weekend due to the weather... a dozen 2-day-old kolaches for $5.99... not bad! I found it humorous that the foods for sale at the end of one of the mini-mart aisles are Mrs. Baird's cherry and apple pies... like why would you ever buy one of those things when the awesomeness of a kolache is only 10m away? I wanted to try one of every kind as it has been years since I've been in a kolache shop, but limited myself to their jalapeño cheese sausage kolache as well as their cream cheese and strawberry cream cheese ones. Plus, I got a bit of my daughter's ham and cheese kolache. All excellent for $1.99/kolache. The staff was super-friendly, and the cashier helped us out with our bluebonnet viewing experience planning. If you are ever travel along interstate 45 between Dallas, TX and Houston, TX, I would recommend making a pit stop at Kolache Depot Bakery. It is located inside of a clean Chevron gasoline station which is odd at first but very convenient. The lady at the bakery was friendly and informed us about the large Czech population in Ennis, TX. Even the staff at the gasoline station were all friendly people who make casual conversations with their customers. It's nice to chit chat with locals after a long car ride. The cream cheese kolache was delicious and very inexpensive; about $1 for one decently sized kolache. On the way back, I tried the cherry cream cheese flavor and it was even better. The bread portion is flaky like a croissant but sweet and moist. Looking back, I would have ordered a savory kolache to taste. read more

This time I said to the hell with cutting down my travel time and made a little pit stop. They had a good amount of choices for pastries and kolaches so I got two jalapeño and cheese. She heated them up for you as they usually do and i was on my way. The breading was nice and the sausage was nice with the spiciness of the jalapeño, mine unfortunately didn't have much cheese but that's ok. They were pretty big and filling. Overall it was good but I was expecting more from a place called kolache depot. I am excited to stop at the others along the way and find one that's right for me. read more
