The month before he tuned our 7 foot Bosendorfer we had hired the Bay Area's most prominent self-promoting tuner (I'll let you guess who that is), and the result was a train wreck. For his high four-digit price to "regulate" and tune our piano, he left it unable to play soft notes and out of tune across the high notes. A cell-phone app can help in tuning a piano, but also takes an EAR to hear disharmony. If you're a musician I would highly recommend Mark Krag as your tuner, whom you will also find to be very pleasant and charging of reasonable prices.

We're moving this Friday and he said that there wasn't enough time to fix the wheel. But he gave us directions on what we could do and gave us instructions on how to do the repair. He referred us to sites we can get our replacement parts as well as tips on how to fix our piano. When my mom passed away, I was able to buy a better piano than I would have otherwise been able to afford. The dealer was really nice to me, and gave me her best tuner: Dave Stahl. That has been about seven years ago, now. Maybe a bit more. Dave has been wonderful. Absolutely impeccable work; he knows pianos down to the ground. He took me through the shakedown years of letting the piano settle in to its new environment and getting a stable tuning, addressing little issues that inevitably develop. He wanted it to be perfect, and that was ok with me. That would be enough for just about anyone, but he is also an interesting person. Was a Performance major, but thought again about a career stable enough to support his wife and young son. Moved pianos for Carnes Piano Co., while he studied for his Certified Piano Technician rating from Piano Technicians' Guild. http://ptg.org An interesting and very informative website. Not at all an easy credential to get. A demonstrated proficiency before a panel of experts, members subscribe to a code of ethics and receive support for continuing education, and help in almost-real-time for tough cases. They will also help piano owners locate technicians within their own area. What else can I say that would help you. Hmmm... my mom would be happy with his work. And, he still writes music and brings some chops forward from his Performance Major days. There's some bandwidth here. Victor Bubbett San Jose
