The Kawai RX-5 I have now was my first good piano. I had done a lot of research over the years, had read "The Piano Book" by Larry Fine and had gone on the http://pianoworld.com website. When my mom passed away, I was able to buy a better piano than I would have otherwise been able to afford. The dealer was really nice to me, and gave me her best tuner: Dave Stahl.
That has been about seven years ago, now. Maybe a bit more. Dave has been wonderful. Absolutely impeccable work; he knows pianos down to the ground. He took me through the shakedown years of letting the piano settle in to its new environment and getting a stable tuning, addressing little issues that inevitably develop. He wanted it to be perfect, and that was ok with me.
That would be enough for just about anyone, but he is also an interesting person. Was a Performance major, but thought again about a career stable enough to support his wife and young son. Moved pianos for Carnes Piano Co., while he studied for his Certified Piano Technician rating from Piano Technicians' Guild. http://ptg.org An interesting and very informative website. Not at all an easy credential to get. A demonstrated proficiency before a panel of experts, members subscribe to a code of ethics and receive support for continuing education, and help in almost-real-time for tough cases. They will also help piano owners locate technicians within their own area.
What else can I say that would help you. Hmmm... my mom would be happy with his work. And, he still writes music and brings some chops forward from his Performance Major days. There's some bandwidth here.
