    Baby grand for unpacking
    Wanfang T.

I think he just like to work with piano. Just call him to confirm a time and job, text the details. He move a baby grand for me alone, pack it all up to the truck in 15mins. Professional tuning and fixing are what you can't get from moving company, and I could ask stupid question about pianos

    Easiest piano move ever!

Moved my spinet piano from Morgan Hill to Cambrian Park, San Jose. They were nice and early, Which they texted me about at the time. They were quick, thorough and were careful in the transport of my little butterscotch baby. The had all the tools and ramps and were very pleasant.

4 months after my initial review, Christopher messaged me this morning. he did not apologize. It gets worse. Sharing the photo of our msg.

Four months after my initial review, Christopher messaged me this morning. No, he did not apologize. It actually gets worse... (Below, I'll share a photo of the actually conversation.) He tells me he is entitled to a sick day, and how he hopes I never call in for a sick day. I explained to him I wasn't disappointed with his service because he was sick. I was disappointed because he didn't show up and tell me he was sick. I had to call him and ask his whereabouts. Then, he said he would call me back on Monday. He didn't. I called and texted him back Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday without ever getting a response. His reply to this... "B---S---, and F- you." Seems like a really classy guy and with great customer service!

    Never Fixed damage to piano.

Our move is a short distance drive (only 10 minutes drive between two homes) with a few stairs in both places. They finished the whole job in less than an hour. But that already included them pivoting the piano several times as an attempt to go through a very narrow patio with two doors, the team finally decided to take one of the door down, and lift the piano up straight so that the piano could go through. It took them about 15 minutes to move my piano from the truck to our new home - and that included the team cleaning/wiping off the dusts off from the back of the piano. My piano isn't a high-end model. Rather it's an old piano (30~ years) that my mom bought for me when I was a child and now my kid uses it to practice. I still play on that piano too. The team wrapped it well and took care of the move perfectly! I don't move my piano often - like once every 10-12 years. But if you are looking for piano movers at this time, I highly recommend them!!!!!

When he did call back, he was very upfront asking all the questions around the move, the houses we would be moving them from and to, and gave me his honest quote. Since I had been doing research, I asked about his price compared to a competitors, and he was upfront about how much he was paying his workers, how long they've been in the business, and shared a few local areas from where I would be moving from. He even offered to be a point of contact for getting more information while I'm still shopping around. Even if I do not choose South Bay Piano, Christian has the right customer service, attitude, and values for his business, his workers, and his clients, that I would recommend them for anyone that truly cares about their piano and their workers.

Most reviewers even said they were very punctual and on-time. Well ... not so much for us. The first time they were supposed to pick it up we waited for them to arrive, only to find out the truck broke down on the highway and they eventually canceled. OK, that is fine. Not under their control really (mostly ). Second attempt they had a time slot of 9-11 to pick up the piano. We had the house ready, cars moved, and waited. At the last minute they canceled. They said it was because we indicated we had to be out of the house in the afternoon. That wasn't a hard deadline as we just wanted to get stuff done in the afternoon, and we could have slipped a bit. Also, that was an hour after the initial pickup window. So the second time we were left staring at our sold piano that cannot be moved by this company. I expected some extra effort on their part for this move since they dropped the ball the first time, but no. I have no idea if these are the best piano moves on the planet. Their motto is "WE-FEAR-NO-PIANO", and I guess since they never got to see our piano in person, they can still claim that. Our move would have been super simple as it was on ground level, lots of street access, and two possible exit points. In any case, good luck with your scheduling these movers. We gave up and hired the competition.

They had to bring it down an outside double stairway, one stairway very narrow and steep. I have moved this piano three times before, both in New York City and then across the country. I last brought it into my house thirty years ago, and I know the weight and difficulty first hand as the original movers back then showed up with only two men. I had to assemble some neighbors to assist and bring it up the same stairs into the house. There were five of us, all untrained, yet we somehow made it. This time, Jacobsen correctly had the five men as needed, as well as the proper tools and clearly the experience to ensure the safe descent. It was like watching a well choreographed team as they worked together with singular guidance to bring it down to street level without a hitch. If I ever bring in another piano, I know who I'll call on again. Also note that we had to reschedule the job a few times due to wet weather, but they would not risk the move unless they could ensure a safe environment as well as having enough men for the job. While some lighter pianos could be moved with fewer hands, they well knew the size and weight of my piano required five and wouldn't attempt without, nor would they add any risk that might be caused by inclement weather; exactly the right protocols. Hats off to a great company and the team, and much thanks to all.

The piano we ordered was shipped with care inside our house by the owners themselves, and they had the further courtesy to even test and install it while also explaining the specifics of our model and how to utilize everything (such as plugging in and explaining the temperature humidity control system, the petals and how to utilize them such as pushing one of them down then left to make it quieter, opening lid etc). We are ABSOLUTE beginners so we appreciated every single information they gave us even if others may find it obvious or common sense. To future pianists (or if you already are one) looking for a good pre-owned piano in Cali, they definitely get a 5 stars from me. The owners, Andrew & Bryan, without a doubt have a deep respect for the art of pianos shown by their skill (they played inside our house during the testing), care/reconditioning (the pre-owned pianos go through a thorough check by them which includes tuning and cleaning so you don't have to go through the hassle. There's other things they do as well in part for the reconditioning but I know most people look at tuning first when it comes to maintenance, just visit their website for more information), and their excellent customer service. I finally reached a point in my career where I needed an excellent instrument at home for both coaching and my own concert prep, but a grand wasn't logistically feasible in our space. I spoke to Andrew about the kinds of things I was looking for in a piano and he arranged for me to come down and play a number of possibilities, even some that were mid-restoration in their workshop! The 1867 Steinway proved to be the perfect fit - it looks and sounds BEAUTIFUL and is the perfect amount of piano for our house. I also have to mention that they did some last minute adjustments to the action per my request, and also bravely fielded some tight Victorian stairways to get the piano moved in. If you're in the market, take a day to drive down to Santa Cruz, enjoy the beach and test out some pianos!
