The food here is so full of wow. I came here for lunch around noon and thankfully did not have to wait in any lines as I was expecting one due to the Yelp reviews. Must have just been the holiday season and home-cooked meals staving off all the students' appetites. After deliberating a few moments on the delicious-looking pictures from the menu, I chose to get the pork koja. With tax, it was nearly $7, but made a very satisfying meal. I was really impressed with the mixture of Asian flavors, and despite the lard and Japanese mayo oozing from between the toasted rice buns, I did not get sick at all by the greasiness. Only thing I wish were different was that the rice bun was more toasted for a higher crunch factor. Did not order fries since I was ordering for just myself. If I had the chance to share fries, I would want to try them next time I come around. Service is good, though seating looks like it can accommodate up to 20 or so customers. And kamikaze fries (which was recommended by the young lady at the register) (3/5) -- although this side order comes PACKED with waffle fries, we found the inside to be cold and lukewarm... along with soggy. When you think waffle fries, you think crispy right?! We asked to have these switched for a new batch and they were more than happy to fulfill it - but it was still soggy and lukewarm the second time around. This was not a good experience. If you are looking for real Korean flavors this is NOT the place for you. I had the Beef Bowl with an egg and extra beef. The beef itself was relatively flavorful but the entire dish was under-salted. Really not much flavor coming from anywhere. The Kimchi was VERY bland and kind of watery. Parts of the rice were overcooked and hard. And there were spring greens in the bowl. Why are there spring greens in a beef bowl?? They got soggy and gross which didn't help anything. Ingenious! I love the concept of having rice as a bun! The rice bun has a crispy outside with a soft middle. The menu is simple but oh so delicious. I got the beef koja: tender bulgogi, sauteed onions, sesame vinaigrette lettuce, pineapple, red sauce, sesame seeds. Hitting up OTG Fort Mason for the first time last Friday, I finally had an opportunity to try KoJa. Being in good company that night, I found myself able to face a line that I would normally find daunting and completely unreasonable. 30+ people and some 20-40 minutes later, we ended up ordering the kamikaze fries and a plain mochimisu. While the mochimisu was a little disappointing (the flavors were excellent, and while the mochi was technically very well done, the tiramisu and mochi ended up being a combination we weren't too fond of), the kamikaze fries were excellent: the criss-cut fries were fried just so, the meat was flavorful, and the combination of sauces (bulgogi, Japanese mayo, and some others) led to some great flavors - just be sure to mix everything, or distribute properly, lest you be overwhelmed by any one flavor. I have to admit, it was actually a little hard to stop myself from getting back into that ridiculous line just to order another! ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - Being a food truck, the usual accessibility issues apply: all the windows are elevated, so, while ordering may be fine, getting your food may be a bit difficult. I decided to take a break from driving (after being stuck in traffic coming from Hayward, for like 1.5 hours..). I decided to give KoJa a try, and my now-bf surprised me with some kamikaze fries & short-rib KoJa! It was one of the most amazing things I ever tasted....now I can't help but frequent here often! Due to the drought, prices have increased and the quantity for short-rib is low. From what I have heard, they only offer it for a limited time during the first couple hours until sold out. The restaurant however, only offers it on weekends and special occasions I think. I'd recommend the kamikaze fries & short-rib KoJa! When they run out of short-rib, I opt for beef. The chicken comes with a pineapple. If you'd like a pineapple with short-rib or beef, I think there's an additional cost. Love their food & can never get enough of it! Dood... I didn't expect to even stop here. Walking by, my cousin and I saw it was featured on the food network's show, Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives and decided to check it out. It looked like a super interesting concept so I had to try it! There's a vegetarian option, Zen rice burger! They use rice and fry it to form the "buns" of the rice burger. The rice was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A bit greasy, but it's fun. It comes with a slice of pineapple, lettuce and the "patty." I wish there was more lettuce and condiments so I can get my veggie burger feel. The sauce was good and it was fun to eat. Good stuff. Kamikaze fries: crispy waffle fries covered in spicy red pepper sauce, spicy mayo, BBQ beef, and green onions. If come here just for this. If you can't handle spicy, you should probably tell them in advance because, while not mouth burning hot, this dish packs a punch. Beef koja: they were out of short rib, which may have been better, but the regular beef was a bit stringy and got caught in my teeth. The bun is basically a thick round piece of rice that's been crisped on the outside (like Korean nooroongjee). It was good but probably my least favorite play of the meal. Oreo mochimisu: it's tiramisu but with mochi. The lady fingers weren't soggy and the flavor not too cloyingly sweet. The weak point for me was the mochi--it had the texture of a chewy candy instead of a gummy candy. The original mochimisu had much squishier mochi... I've had burger with rice patties in Korea. It's actually very famous Korean version of McDonald there. I stopped by truck stop in FIDi today and saw Koja. I bought their fries and mochimisu. Fries are flavorful and less greasy but the fries are quite chewy for some reason. Wearing braces makes me hard to chew on their fries. But I finished them anyway. Wow is all I can say! I had the kalbi short rib sandwich and I was really impressed. Strong, and full of flavor, the sandwich blended Korean BBQ with a hint of Japanese mayo and onions/lettuce for that burger feel. I really liked the rice patty burger bun and the portion size was good as well. I don't find myself licking my fingers often! KoJa Kitchen comes to Stanford campus every two weeks on Tuesday (check out foodtrucks.stanford.edu for more info), and they also have a bulgogi sandwich, two Japanese items (chicken teriyaki and one with pineapple), their famous kamikaze fries (sounded like a lot of stuff - kimchi? Hmm), and a tiramisu-like dessert with mochi called mochimisu. I'd give it a five-star rating if not for its price. A KoJa sandwich will run you $7-8 dollars, which is a bit much for its size. Went to KoJa Kitchen with my cousins during my visit to Berkeley and I had no idea what they were going to put me through, but the beef Koja that my cousin ordered for me is unique and it was something that I had never experienced before in my life! The beef koja uses rice that is shaped into a bun instead of the conventional bread bun which allowed for a marvelous experience. In order for the rice to keep its shape, it is grilled. The grilling of the rice gives it a hard/dry texture. However, the dressing and marinate from the meat compensate for this and totally makes up for it to be delectable. The best part about Koja Kitchen is that despite eating a burger style sandwich, I did not feel bloated and heavy afterwards, which is a wonderful thing because of all of the walking that was required to fully experience Berkeley. Creative and different. If you're looking to change up from your usual spots and willing to try something interesting, you won't be disappointed. I had the beef koja and also tried both the kamikaze fries and umami fries. I didn't quite love the rice buns. I was expecting something else I suppose. It is toasted as the menu says and it tastes about like you'd think crispy toasted rice would taste. It's very crunchy. The parts between the buns were really good, a lot of flavor. I love the KoJa kitchen food truck when it comes by my work and I'm glad that they have brick and mortar stores as well! Brought my dad here for his bday to have him try something different. I ordered the braised pork KoJa since you can't get that on the truck and my dad got the beef KoJa. Good to see that the quality and consistency of the food is the same here as on the truck. Both were great and my dad really liked it as well! Will definitely be eating more KoJa in the future! read more

They too were at the Trucktoberfest in West Sacramento. I passed this truck a few times as the line was just too long and it was hot out, but Koja Kitchen was the reason I came to this fest. After walking back and and forth I finally got in line. i went with the Kamikaze fries. OMG!!!!! Bomb.com. What a way to reinvent fries and mix Japanese and Korean into one dish. The minced beef, scallions, the sauce all blended well together, but it was hot, spicy hot. My lips were burning, but couldn't stop eating, thats how good it was. This also was money well spent. When I'm in San Fran, I'll make sure I hit them up again. Damn it was good. read more
