So the week before, hubs and I scoured this tiny- but mighty shop at the corner of Tannery Brook Rd & Tinker St. in Woodstock. The size of this shop makes it cute. The location is cute. Hell, the products are cute. These ladies have a selection of minimalist-meets-unusual lifestyle and home items ranging from candles, door stoppers, jewelry, blankets, throws, outdoor mats and so much more done tastefully. This was almost a one-stop-shop place for us as we crossed some people off our Christmas list. Between the sofa pillow I got for my Mom, (2) small ceramic candle holders, a fuzzy scarf and tapered candles- things were looking good. Since my daughter's sorority's mascot is an Elephant, I also purchased her an Elephant wooden door stopper I couldn't pass up. List or not, I'd come back any other time to pick up something for myself.

Especially with the Minimalist/Neutral/ Modernish/ Brassy items I've been including here and there in the last 2 years to refresh certain areas of my home. Located at the Kings Mall in Kingston, NY, this HomeG. is colossal compared to those I've visited in Westchester Co. or The BX. I purchased a few drawer organizational items, a 100% light-as-air white+navy blue specks sofa throw and other decor pieces on my Saturday visit. In true HomeGoods fashion, you'll find items that you least expect in their aisles and then some. This place is as organized as it can be and none of that untidiness on the floor like in other places. Service at the register was fine and of course, you can't beat their low prices. Not very friendly or approachable, but I saw some cute cocktail glassware and decided to make a purchase. Sadly, that evening, the paper bag with the glasses wrapped in tissue paper, lightly tipped over on the dinner table and one of the glasses shattered. I thought it would be worth a try to go back and see if they could accommodate with a solution as the glasses had not even been unwrapped yet. I went back, and the same man was there. He was extremely hostile when I asked if he could help me out in any way. When I mentioned that the glasses were only wrapped in tissue paper, he became very defensive and suggested that I was blaming him for the accident. "It's my fault," he yelled. He very childishly huffed and puffed through the store as he grabbed me a new glass and some bubble wrap. As he handed back the bag, he very rudely said, "don't blame me if you're not careful and it breaks again." Although I don't think it was his fault, I don't imagine the glass would have broken if it had been well wrapped the first time around. To have a grown man yell at me, a young women in my 20s, felt extremely scary, disrespectful, and and sad that this is a world where men think they can speak to women so harshly. Don't recommend visiting if you are looking for a pleasant customer experience.

Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. I've always referred to them as "big lots, on steroids." The place is huge! They primarily sell manufacturers extras and overstock, and maybe the previous models of things. But, everything is good. Groceries, snacks, clothes, toys, home, and garden, housewares, kitchenware, tools, carpeting even furniture. If you see what you like, buy a little bit extra, because there's a good chance it won't be there the next time you come in. The stock always rotates. That's what makes it fun. It's like a giant treasure hunt. Also, if you sign up for a free "Ollie's army" membership, they will send you information on discounts that you can get off of their already great prices. I am a fan. There's a stylist onsite Friday and Saturday in case you need help crafting the perfect outfit for something specific, but any day you are going to find high quality clothing that fits a variety of body shapes and sizes. Because the designers are not massive scale productions I can occasionally find myself fitting into an XS and sometimes a L. I'm 5'7" and normally wear a M. Basically it is in part about your personal style and the fit you are seeking. I love that the color scheme is mainly in the black, grey, cream, white category with a little color splashed throughout. No Sugar is about not being about all the pop cultures splashes and instead brings classy (often European) designers that you can't find in many stores to the Village of Rhinebeck. I've seen teens and mature women shopping in the same place with no one coming out looking too young or too old.
