We were in St. Cloud for a work event and saw this pop up as the top Indian restaurant there and decided to try it out - definitely didn't let us down. It's located in their downtown area and not too far from SCSU. We got seated right away and the place wasn't too busy yet, but I was glad to see they got bustling 30 minutes later. I ordered the chicken masala and we shared a mango lassi and onion chili, all of which were delicious and just the right amount. It was so yummy that I was able to keep eating it even though I was absolutely stuffed. Great flavors and I liked the different take on the naan, it was more crispy and thin and you can taste the difference that the onions and chilis bring out. 10/10 recommend if you're in the area and want some good Indian cuisine. read more

I would have left a one star review if it wasn't for the food being tasty that said the service here was obviously left to the children of the owners, and we were rushed to leave, even though there were other patrons at the restaurant, we recommend that the owners of the restaurant show the next generation how to properly train and give better service We were given cold samosas in the beginning of our service. My husband and I love Kohinoor! We come here fairly regularly and it's always delicious and the food is served piping hot! The staff are always very kind and attentive. Usually it's a great place for date night! Definitely a bit more fancy than other places in St. Cloud but it's not crazy expensive or anything. You can almost always just walk in and don't need a reservation. read more

AS a real Indian eating at this place, this place does not even deserve the 1 star first off all the food was trash all the meat were just bone and the rice was horrible, the drinks did not have the price and for the food the price was horrible probably just for desperation of cash and probably the ambiance. Also the drinks were served horribly. The service was trash the waiter I'd not give us napkins and spoons and she did not understand a single word we said, I agree with Brian with this one. We arrived for a quick (and rather late) lunch on a snowy day as we drove down to St. Paul for the weekend. We started out with a fish pakora - something we've never had before. Tilapia chunks fried in a batter! A bit on the salty side but the accompanying tamarind and mint sauce were both excellent. We followed this up with the Mali (although the correct spelling should be Malai) Kofta and some Peshwari Naan. Both were very good although the naan was a bit more generous with raisins than we were accustomed to. We opted for the "medium" level of spice, but felt that the food could be a little more spicy. The flavor was perfect on all dishes. All in all not a bad experience! Hope to return someday with some friends and family and try the vast number of dishes on the menu. read more

After my trip I was fortunate enough to have Memorial Day off. I drove my butt to St. Cloud to visit my mother and her friends. My mother was in town visiting so we all decided to go out for dinner. Her friends chose this Indian place. Apparently the owners of this place are the same family that owns Star of India in St. Cloud as well. We arrived and we didn't need reservations. It was a rainy day, so there weren't many people out and about. Our party consisted of 5 people. We started with 2 orders of Vegetable Samosas-6 total. For our entrees, Chuck is always down for ethnic food, he ordered the lamb sheesh kebabs with vegetables, Pat ordered the same thing but with rice. Jim doesn't like spicy things or Seafood, so he ordered the chicken tenders. Mom ordered the Tandoori Chicken with rice and I ordered the Chana Masala. We also collectively got 2 orders of Naan, 1 plain and 1 garlic. I was with a group of non-spicy lovin' people. I however, love spicy, it's always more flavorful, and just delicious! I asked for my meal to be spicy, medium/hot, everyone ordered mild. Sometimes I feel like who I'm with depends on if I get the spicy level I asked for. The Chana was delicious, however it was very bland, I felt I was missing out on a lot of the flavor. I had left overs and during my next meal I added hot sauce to it, to help bring out those flavors I was missing. The staff was nice, fast, and friendly. I don't often come to St. Cloud anymore, but if I did, and people wanted to go here again, I would go because I love Indian Food. I haven't had bad Indian yet (knock on wood), sometimes it just needs a little more hot sauce, but never bad. read more

Simply wonderful food, I had the veggie samosas, chicken curry -hot and plain naan, it was excellent. A nice heat that builds slowly because it is an integral part of a rich curry sauce- not just hot for the sake of being hot. I will be back here e ery time I visit st Cloud. read more

Went here with a girl friend recently for the first time. The service was great and the food was even better. I had the lamb Mahti (sp?) and the naan bread with cheese. Both dishes were to die for. The spice level for the hot was manageable and testy. The lamb was tender and flavorful. The sauce and rice were on par. I definitely want to come back and try their other dishes although it's hard to deviate when the first dish was amazing. Definitely stop by and check them out. And interior design and ambiance is very inviting as well. read more

Ordered takeout for dinner Friday evening and it was so disappointing. Ordered the mango Lassi and it was very bland and pale in color. You could not taste any sweetness to it and also no mango flavor. Next up was the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was chunky and the consistency was pretty curdled. It didn't look like their was dairy in it or it was old. The chicken was devoid of flavor and was falling apart. It was as if it were cooked in a crock pot and then dumped into old sauce. I'm used to authentic Indian cuisine from Chicago and the Twin cities. This seemed like a meal from a box. The restaurant seemed nice when I picked it up but my takeout won't warrant a repeat visit. read more

I was the first to review this place which is cool. My review still holds as it's excellent food done well with a good bar. They show international sports like cricket on TV which is fun to watch. But this my main update is this. If you ask they will go off menu and customize. I would suggest the Chana saag. Awesome. read more

We decided to try Kahinoor while visiting family and it did not disappoint. Samosas were delicious and so were both of our entrees (the masala paneer and the mutton briyani). We chose the hot spice level and it was full of heat - in a good way. Portions were large enough for leftovers and we can't wait to come back! read more

Kohinoor never fails to be delicious!!! Though my only complaint would be that I would like it to be more spicy when I say I want hot. My mother's food has always been spicy so I grew up having spice in my food until I came here to St. Cloud for college and every time my partner and I come here and I say I'd like it spicy it still just seems to have a slight medium kick to it, but as always still delicious. Always stop here on our way to Bemidji. Delicious and served hot. They make the food to order, so it's takes a little time to make, but we'll worth the wait. Had a delicious dinner here on a Monday night. Naan and samosas for appetizers, both delicious. The sauce served with the samosas was an excellent accompaniment. My husband got the Margarita Shrimp, which sounded like a weird dish but they were lovely and well seasoned with a bit of kick. I got the tandoori lamb with mint seasoning, really excellent with a nice char. For sides I would recommend the vegetables, well seasoned, over the basmati rice, a tad bland. Also had a mango lassi to drink, which was nice to have something not overly sweet to drink that was non-alcoholic. read more

I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, due to how small the place is, sound echoes and if it is even half full it is so loud you almost have to yell. The booths are very narrow and uncomfortable if you are more than 5 feet tall. I was ok, being that I actually am only 5 feet tall, but my fiancé was in a hurry to finish and go because he felt like he was sliding off the narrow, down-sloping seat, and had to keep pushing back against the seat to keep from sliding forward. So if you are tall, you might want to choose a table. I would have given 5 stars for my food- I had a vegetarian dish (pasala?) with a sauce made with puréed spinach. Just enough spice at medium. For the St. Cloud area I would say it's perfect for medium. My fiancé would have given 2 stars for the food. He had steak and bell pepper kabobs. It was seasoned well, but the steak was beyond well-done. He wasn't sure if he should send it back since they don't ask how you want the steak done. I assumed they probably shoot for medium, but it's harder with cut up pieces to offer a proper temp. We also had naan for an appetizer which was really good. I loved the smokey red chutney. The desert was the biggest disappointment. He had strawberry cheesecake and I had pistachio ice cream. The cheesecake was good, but just had a watery strawberry syrup on it. My ice cream was just a plain bowl of ice cream. Usually when a restaurant offers a dessert like ice cream they dress it up somehow with chocolate syrup, nuts, whipped cream... something! Plus the ice cream was crystallized like it had been in the freezer for some time. More like desserts I would expect at a cheap diner. If you go here for an overall experience, you may be disappointed. However, based on the flavors in our food, if you are just going there because you love Indian food I think this place will make you happy. If it wasn't for how sad the desserts were, I probably would have given 4 stars. Not every dish is going to come out perfect, and despite the over cooked steak, the flavor was really good. Get a new sign on the outside of your building; you look ridiculous. Your sign has a giant diamond. I worked next door to this restaurant for three years and for the longest time I thought they were a jeweler because of they're stupid sign. As a restaurant, this place is damn near perfect. It's so cool, it's so damn cool. Aesthetically pleasing, great staff, AMAZING bartenders with an endless arsenal of destructive (yet delicious) beverages, and this is some of the best food in Saint Cloud. This is still my favorite Indian eatery of all time. The staff is very laid back and helpful if you're not super familiar with Indian cuisine, this restaurant actually introduced me to the this new culinary realm and I thank them for that constantly. We visited Kohinoor with family from out-of-town on a weekday evening in August, 2016 before St. Cloud State University classes resumed for the year. There were 5-6 other tables with diners at them, and the service was excellent. Our glasses were never empty, and the waiter was well-versed in the menu and specials, offering good recommendations based on what level of spice and flavor combinations we wanted. Their full bar has some good offerings including local brews. Our food arrived quickly and steaming hot. The food quality is 5-stars, for St. Cloud. Having lived in several larger cities on the east coast in the recent past, it's hard not to make comparisons, though they would be unfair - an Indian restaurant in St. Cloud just can't compete with a great Indian restaurant in Boston or New York City. This is not the best Indian food you'll ever eat at a restaurant in America - or likely even in Minnesota. But it is the best Indian food available in the St. Cloud area. I've tried Spice and others including the few Indian buffets in town, and there is no question in my mind that Kohinoor is the best. In NYC, I imagine this place would rate 3.5 to 4.5 stars, but again, finding food of any variety in St. Cloud that well-rated by east-coast standards is an unexpected treat. We started with two orders of naan for the table, the garlic and the paneer. Both were good, but I preferred the garlic naan since the paneer cheese was a bit on the salty side. The naan was cut into several pieces each, so everyone at the table could try both. For our main dishes, each person at our table ordered a different one of the signature dishes: Masala, Balti, Methi, and Jalfrazi with chicken or lamb. We each tried each others' meals and they were all excellent, though I preferred the Jalfrezi myself since it seemed to be mild enough to let the vegetable flavors show through. Be sure to discuss the options and flavors with the server before placing your order; each is different, and they spice them to order, so you can customize the dish. They have a great bar with a nice selection of brews from India as well as craft beers and your usual Bud Light, Grainbelt, etc. My fiancé and I love the garlic na'an, it's crazy good. This is a great Indian restaurant. Same extended family that owns Star of India. Their naan is fresh and made the traditional way, not in a convection oven. The ambiance is ok, but really doesn't look very Indian, more traditional American. The only reason I did not give it a 4 or a 5 is because if the burly snobbish bartender. One in our crowd asked what Indian beer tastes like. He responded its a lager. She asked what does a lager taste like? He muttered, "like a lager". She asked for an example, he just stared her down....... If the goon is bartending, pay no attention to him and tell your wait person that none of the tip you leave can go to the bartender. Kohinoor was such an all around amazing experience! Never having tried authentic Indian food before, I was a bit apprehensive but to my surprise and with the guidance of our fantastic waiter, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. We started out with their Aloo Tikki as an appetizer, for my main course, I had the Methi Chicken Curry with the Paneer Naan. My boyfriend had the Balti chicken curry and LOVED his meal as well. The full bar made ordering drinks easy, and delicious. We topped our meal off with their Gulab Jamun for dessert, which was also wonderful. I will be recommending to all our friends and family.
